Where is iDisk in iCloud?... I got it in the finder now!

So disappointed, I need iDisk and Gallery in iCloud or MobileMe. What can I do? Please, I need help immediately! Now I know I can't use it in my iTouch, since it is a 2nd generation. It all *****!

I've been using Dropbox and find it very good. But I also use, and prefer, iDisk. I simply cannot believe that iDisk is going to disappear. It's absolutely at the heart of what cloud storage is all about. Why on earth would Apple want to send paid for business to third parties? I am still hoping that between now and June, a new product will appear, maybe cross platform (i.e. Windows as well), with even better features than Dropbox.

I agree. I really have no need for syncing. In fact I don't trust it. I don't have a iPad or an iPhone. I work in front of a computer all day. The early Apple syncing was very counter-intuitive in both implementation and it's user management. If Apple's early iCloud and iWorks workflows are any indication then we're in for a dumbed down file management system. The "Save a Version" method instead of "Save As" really hampers me. I've gotten used to it but it adds steps and it's not how creative people work. I know Tim Cook says the tablet is the future but there's no way anyone can work on creative projects on an iPad. It's fine for little corrections and for viewing material. I've used iWork since it's introduction. It's release was Apple at it's best. Though some people say Numbers isn't as capable as Excel, Pages is just plain great and Keynote blows Power Point away. Plus I've found as a film editor that Keynote is a fast and great way to display graphics with video/stills for business presentations in full HD.

Really getting work done requires a desk and space. Holding a tablet or sitting on the couch with one in your lap is well...a lazy man's workflow. Serious work requires a serious workspace.

There is a great alternative to iDisk & Dropbox. It's free, gives you a massive 25Gb, easy to use, has an iPhone app, totally cross platform and comes from, ahem.....Microsoft.

It's called Skydrive. Works brilliantly, pretty fast, easy to get others on both Mac & Windows to share/downlad files. I've been using it for the last three months or so & now I don't use iDisk.

Yes, I did say 25Gb free.

The free 25 GB of Skydrive makes it very enticing.

Two drawbacks:

1. No access from finder, you need to use a browser to access your files. This makes it pretty useless, for example, when attaching files you are storing only on the SkyDrive (Please correct me if there is another way)

2. No uploading of folders. This is insane:User uploaded file

Sadly, this means a of functionality has been lost with the demise of iDrive. Dropbox at least has the finder-level accessibility.

Sadly, Luis, that's just the point. With iDisk we had all of this in one place, simples....and we didn't mind paying for it.

Now it's all fragmented again. Photos here, email there, cloud storage there.

I thought Apple was all about seamless integration. Simplicity. The ONE solution. Now it's not.

Sadly, this part of the Apple has started to rot.

Hi Luis,

I tried several options via http://alternativeto.net/software/idisk/

I installed Wuala, which is free but is limited to 2GB, as is Dropbox. And if I look at the prices, I am not too happy.

Now I am working with Nomadesk (http://www.nomadesk.com). I went for a single fileserver which costs me around the price that MobileMe costed me. And ... with unlimited storage! I use nomadesk for half a year now. It is ok.

Nomadesk sync all your files (Windows and Mac) to three computers. Sharing of files is possible, as is sending a file link. However, you don't have a public space as Mobile had.

And, Nomadesk is really reliable. I guess there will be lots of developments going on for the coming months. Free space will increase and prices of online storage will drop.

Take your pick!!
