does Mac Numbers support iCloud? If not, when?

I've brought up 10.7.2 and set up iCloud. I'd like to have access to a spreadsheet from both Mac and iPad. The iPad (ios 5) end works fine Does Mac Numbers support iCloud? If not, when?

OS Mac 10.7.2 (not yet avail above)

It has to be coming soon because there is already an iCloud "directory" that can be found at ~/Library/Mobile Documents. Sadly you can't open the iOS iWork files.

This directory in Lion is only present if a iOS5 device with iwork apps was used before.

www.icloud.com/iwork will not even activate without these apps on an iOS5 device present.

The feature allow exchanges between iOS devices and it's already an important feature for those using such machines.

Where Apple dropped the ball was dropping an iDisk feature from iCloud. It's true you lost some of the advanced features when going cross platform, but that is fine for most documents. And iDisk handled files of all types. Let's hope Apple gets the message by June 2012, because right now the iPad in business, science, medicine, and education could be crippled.

I wonder how Adobe's new CS 5.5 apps will work cross platform.

I would have to agree that Apple really did drop the ball. However, a third party work around does exist.

My solution to this problem is to use Dropbox.com and Documents To Go. Numbers will save as an Excel Spreadsheet and Documents To Go will read it, and Dropbox will sync it. Additionally, you can setup sharing among several collegues, and everyone is sharing the same copy at the same time.

I realize that Excel file in numbers are not nearly as polished, and I do prefer the polish whenever possible, but sometimes the work just needs done.

One thing I am a little fuzzy on is whether or not icloud storage can be mounted as webdav like idisk could, that would be the ideal solution.

I use premium also, I am not sure what the limitations of standard are. On the Mac I save the file to my documents folder as numbers and xls files, then I copy the xls file to my document folder in my dropbox folder on my Mac [One can never have to many backups after all]. After it has a moment to sync I open up DTG on my iPod, then I tap the "online" tab at the bottom of the initial DTG screen and login to dropbox, and subsequently navigate to my file. However, the first time you try to do it, it has to set up a link to the application or something to allow DTG access to dropbox. When you close the file is automatically saved back into the dropbox folder that it started in.

There have been workarounds involving Dropbox and DTG, but that's not the issue. It's that presently using iDisk you can go from a file in iWork's on the Mac, inside the application, to iDisk. You can save or open a file directly from iDisk. It can be an Office or IWork's formatted file. Then on an iOS device you can do the same inside the application. ICloud presently lack this hugely important feature. Right now the tprocess either involves iTunes or downloading from iCloud.com to you mac and uploading it. No folder structure possible. So there is no efficient bridge for iWork's between iOS and Mac except the very workable iDisk. Which is doomed. I'm not certain, but I would think iDisk may be a bridge between a PC using Office and an iPad.
