ios 5 + car + dock + bt = problem

Problem 1 - The phone switches to BT after 50 seconds instead of using the dock contact. It has been a problem in every ios 5 build and it survived into release. Manually choosing dock contact = fine for 50 seconds then it swaps again.

Anyone else got this? I do not want to play music through BT - I want it through dock contact. Telephone works great through BT as it should.

This worked fine in all earlier ios releases - its a ios 5 problem.

My car is a 2011 Volvo V60 - I do not want to firmware update my car even - it is innocent!

Problem 2 - Docking it in car - It very often forget what album it was playing and start to play songs in an alphabetical order starting with A

Problem 3 - Playing music through Synology app for example works great for one song and then it take a random song from iphone player instead.

Same problem goes for playing radio with example Tunein Radio.

Hi,

changing dock won't help - there is no hardware fault with your dock unit - this is by design and an error of iOS5.

Your only choice at the moment is to use the dock connector for charging and hear your music through bluetooth.

With bluetooth you can't change playlists but you can skip titles and see also music information in sensus. If you want to change a playlist, you have to do so manually at the iPhone.

I have found a little trick to use dock as music channel for one trip: If you have an other (unreachable) bluetooth device in your cars list, you can change to this device under senus

- Media

- OK (for the menu)

- change bluetooth device

- there choose an unreachable device

- immediately change to "iPod" under Media before the car recognizes that the choosen device is unreachable.

This holds until you stop your engine. But it is possible to choose playlists. ;-)

It will probably still do it if the bluetooth is enabled and connected to your car. I had a loan car the other day and tried it on that one and as the phone wasnt connected through bluetooth it didnt do it. I couldnt be bothered to check by conncecting up via bluetooth as I know other Volvo drivers have some issue.

No probs though here is hope!

jmues - let me try to clarify your trick above and question.

Your trick essentially disconnects the bluetooth connection from the car and your phone, forcing the car to look for another bluetooth device. Alternatively, you could also turn off bluetooth on your iPhone (settings->general->bluetooth->off). Obviously, the phone will no longer work for phone calls via bluetooth, but the dock connector will work for music. For me, the problem did not occur until I paired my new 4S with the Vovlo. So if unpaired, the dock will work as expected.

If you have a second iPod or iPhone at your disposal, this WILL work via dock connector, as long as it is not paired with the car via bluetooth. I just tested this with my wife's iPhone, which has iOS 5, but has never been paired with the car. With her phone connected via dock, it played music flawlessly, even while my own iPhone was connected via bluetooth. I was even able to switch media sources back and forth between my phone via bluetooth and her phone via dock. I was also able to make a phone call, via bluetooth, and it faded out then back into the music from the dock connector. No problem. So the issue only arises when the iOS device connected via dock is also connected via bluetooth at the same time. This reinforces the commonly held feeling that this is an iOS 5 / Apple problem, not a Volvo problem.

Does that help?

Hi,

let me clarify also: If you change (not delete!) the bluetooth device in the MEDIA section of sensus to an unreachable device, the TELEPHONE connection will STAY at the former choosen device - this was no question - it was a statement of me... 😉

Your second part (with one deivice at dock and other at bluetooth) is good to know. Thanks.

I am not sure that the problem is totally down to Apple.

I agree that the problem surfaced after the upgrade to IOS 5 but I took my 2010 plate Ford Mondeo estate to my Ford dealer who had received an update for the radio/sat nav unit from Ford which completely cures the problem and incidentally adds the facility to not only stream music via BT but also allows the use of Apples Iphone usb cable if this is preferred to BT.

I have not updated to IOS 5.0.1 as I am concerned that this might bu**er things up again.
