ios 5 + car + dock + bt = problem

Problem 1 - The phone switches to BT after 50 seconds instead of using the dock contact. It has been a problem in every ios 5 build and it survived into release. Manually choosing dock contact = fine for 50 seconds then it swaps again.

Anyone else got this? I do not want to play music through BT - I want it through dock contact. Telephone works great through BT as it should.

This worked fine in all earlier ios releases - its a ios 5 problem.

My car is a 2011 Volvo V60 - I do not want to firmware update my car even - it is innocent!

Problem 2 - Docking it in car - It very often forget what album it was playing and start to play songs in an alphabetical order starting with A

Problem 3 - Playing music through Synology app for example works great for one song and then it take a random song from iphone player instead.

Same problem goes for playing radio with example Tunein Radio.

I'm having exactly the same problem; I thought it was related to the USB/Bluetooth conflict, and I even unpaired-repaired my phone, but when I speak with someone via the bluetooth connection on my iPhone (4S) / Volvo XC60-2012 the sound is warbled. If I change to the phone setting and speak through the phone, the connection is normal. There seems to be a clear lack of compatibility between Apple and Volvo, and I suspect both will need to issue software/firmware updates. I only hope they're aware of the extent of these problems. The IOS 5.0.1 update does nothing for these problems.

I'm having the same issues as everyone else. I have a 2012 Volvo S60 T6, and after updating to iOS 5 on my 3GS, the phone reverts to audio over bluetooth after a minute or so of playing over the dock connector. This is after waiting for the phone to pair with Sensus, then connecting the dock connector. Switching via the multitasking menu or in "music" only works for another minute or so

I've also noticed the garbled sound issue while on a call.

I had none of these problems in iOS 4. So much for "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

I've noticed a difference between 5.0 and 5.0.1, but not for the better.

I posted earlier in the thread when I first upgraded to 5.0 and my 2012 Volvo S60 could no longer play through the "iPod" interface for more than a minute. I had had better luck with iOS 4.3.2, but only after futzing with it for days.

After failing to make iOS 5.0 work as 4.3.2 had, I gave up, and connected an iPod to the Volvo's USB/iPod interface, and used my iPhone to stream voice-only podcasts via Bluetooth. With iOS 5.0, every time I got back in the car with the phone in my pocket, the car would detect the phone and continue streaming from where it left off.

Since upgrading to iOS 5.0.1, most of the time the iPhone won't automatically continue streaming. I have to select it with "OK", then choose the device in the Sensus display, *then* it will continue from the point where it left off in, say, a podcast.

This is new behavior, and a regression from iOS 5.0.

I have both of the same issues as described by Vibeen.

If I have my iPhone playing music out the dock connector, it will revert to BT after about a minute.

Since 5.0.1, it also no longer automatically reconnects to Sensus for music. I have to select it in the list.

I wonder how much of this is Volvo related and how much of it is Apple BT related? I've submitted bug reports tonight to both of them.

I have an iPhone 4S and a Volvo XC60 and I have experienced all of the above problems.

If youve paired up your phone to the car with BT this is the solution

ie do not plug it into the USB dock connector at all

Use the power outlet to charge the phone and use Bluetooth (BT) to wirelessly stream the music from the Music app on the iPhone. You will see an AirPlay icon (triangle inside a square) next to play and skip track buttons which lets you choose 'My Car' which is the Bluetooth. So voice calls and music all work in harmony.

The bonus features are that Siri works to navigate tracks and the track names appear on the head unit. So for example you can ask Siri "play Beatles, Let It Be" and it plays Beatles on your iPhone and then wirelessly to the car. You can ask Siri for "Next track" etc

Better than sound dropping out etc etc as per posts above

That's not really the point. I think all of us know what the workaround is for the issue. What we're trying to do is to get Apple (and Volvo) to restore functionality that was present prior to the update. I live in a state where any and all cell phone use in a car is illegal. And if I can scroll through playlists using the car's USB functionalit, I'd rather do that than scrolling on the phone and playing songs by Bluetooth.

For what it's worth, Volvo wrote back to me and said, amongst other things:

We have sent this feedback over to Apple, hoping for a new software release. We last worked with Apple in late 2010/early 2011, prior to the 4.3 release. We are confident that this will be corrected in a future release, it just might take sometime. Apple has been great to work with...

Volvo has been very prompt, courteous, and knowledgable every time I've contacted them about a bug or issue with Sensus. For now, they redommended using A2DPBlocker but as they said in the above quote, they've sent the feedback to Apple. If any of you are devs, file a bug at radar.apple.com.

Hey there,

I'm having the same issues with my V60/2011 and the 4S 5.01.

Just as an intermediate solution I was wondering if there are USB/Dock-connector cables that only charge the phone and don't connect or sync the phone otherwise. With that I could use the V60 USB connector to charge the 4S and use bluetooth to connect to the Audio while controlling Playlists etc from the 4S. It's not perfect but it would help me for now.

Anyone know if such a cable is available ?
