iCloud Calendar invitations not working

I migrated my MobileMe account to iCloud and calendar invitations are not working. When I create a calendar event and select an invitee an email is not sent to the invitee. I have tried sending invites from iCal on my MacBook Air, iPhone, and iCloud.com with no success. I tested by creating a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID and still no luck. Anyone else having this problem?

This is a very old thread but for the last few posts here is the thread you are looking for with current information.

Re: iCal will not send if location is added to event

Since late November/Early December 2016, many people have not been able to send event invitations when the add a "suggested Apple Maps location" which seems to be blocking the invitation. Read the thread above for other people who have had the same issue.

As i said, this has been happening to me since late November/Early December.

I was manually adding some December/January Calendar events (adding suggested Apple Maps locations) and the inviting a couple family members. After about three invites to events, the invitations stopped going through. One other did go through but it had "TBD" as the location.

Fast foreward: Tonight I removed the suggested Apple Maps locations and left only location names and the invites began to flow! I was able to reproduce it as described above and below in every instance.

1. Both macOS Sierra & iOS 10.2 Calendar apps are affected in my case.

2. It only has happened to me with using suggested Apple Maps locations.

3. I have had no problems with Emojis nor adding notes, only with suggested Apple Maps locations.

I was able to create an event then invite without a location on macOS. After accepting I could modify it on an iOS device and add a suggested Apple Maps location. The the invite would then update to the suggested Apple Maps location for the invitee.

I wonder if my initial action of sending multiple event invites in a short time triggered some anti-spam block in iCloud servers? This began around the same day Apple announced it was going to start actively blocking spam invites. My hope is that I have not been put of some spam list.

I submitted a bug report to the Calendar Engineering Team. It was quick and simple. Hopefully they will find the bug/spam filter issue and fix it soon.

All the above is informative but not helpful in my case. My wife and I both use the Calendar app on our MacBook Pros, iPhones and IPads. She shares her main calendar with me, and we share a joint calendar for activities we do together. We both can see and edit events on these two calendars.

However, I recently created a third calendar for my work events, and I set it up so she can see but not edit my work events. I sent the invitation to her, but she never received it. She did not get an email. She did not get an alert within her calendar itself. My calendar says the sharing is "pending." Why did she never get my invitation to share the calendar? How can we complete the sharing process, so she can see my new calendar?

This might matter: I created an active iCloud account with an iCloud email address, but she never activated her her iCloud account with an iCloud address, so I am sharing my calendar with her email address for a third-party webhost. Part of me says this is the culprit, but since we already use our addresses to share two calendars without any problems, why am I having so much trouble sharing this new calendar?

FYI, we both are still using Mavericks on our MacBooks yet all of our mobile devices use the latest iOS.

Any help will be welcome. Thanks.

As of couple of weeks ago it seems, for myself and those I share calendars with at least, that a new issue developing regarding calendar invitations and also the inconsistent way shared events are displayed in shared calendars...

I strongly suspect this more than coincides with some backroom activity going on at Apple regards addressing the recently highlighted issue of spam calendar invitations but so far those I have spoken to deny this.

Problems I have currently:

When create a new event in MY calendar and INVITE my partner she no longer receives an INVITATION ALERT. Even more strangely, examining her calendar "inbox" reveals the invite has already been filed in the REPLIED section and with the status ACCEPT! (it seems iCloud is automatically accepting invites on her behalf...). However... the event is NOT displayed in her own calendar at all. Meanwhile, my own copy of the event in my calendar shows her invite status as "NO REPLY". This is completely bizarre and also works the opposite way - eg if my partner is trying to invite myself to an event. This all used to work fine, albeit with occasional delays In propagating the calendar event data to all of our devices.

I have tried unsubscribing each other's calendars and starting again with regards inviting one another to share our respectvie calendars - no change.

Have also done the usual switching off of iCloud calendars on these devices, deleting locally stored calendar data and switching back on iCloud sync. Again, no improvement. I have found the issue extends also to another party I sometimes invite and who also has a long established iCloud account.

Our iCloud accounts are definitely linked to our Apple ID email addresses so no scope for error there - or so I thought... Another recent, lengthy telecon with Apple Support found me being advised to make sure we both had @icloud.com email addresses added to our contact details wiin the contacts app. I cannot believe this is a requirement and besides we never needed that before.
