iCloud mail push notification

push notification only seems to work (off and on tbh) only when mail is running in the background. As soon as mail is shut down, nothing happens 🙂 bug ?

Add me to the list of people affected. Migrated from MobileMe on day one. Got an iPhone 4S and it's happening on it. I can't recall this happening with my 3GS that I briefly had on iOS 5.

It was working fine this morning, but ever since noon, I noticed I didn't get 7 emails pushed to my device until I actually opened Mail.app on my iPhone.

This is pretty annoying. I set up my iPhone 4S as a new phone, so any corrupt settings and whatnot from my old phone wouldn't be carried over. Seems like if I force quit Mail.app on the iPhone and re-open it Push mail on my iCloud account returns...for a while. This is pretty annoying.

Well, I found a solution, I got a gmail account, ditched that iCloud mail that is nothing more than that lousy MobileMe mail that never worked and setup an Exchange account in my iPad using m.google.com as server address.

I now receive my mail, push notifications and a much better mail service.

Apple is very good for some things but certainly not for cloud services ...

Cheers,

I wish I new what the secret was to help you guys. I've tried every way possible to stop my emails from being pushed on my 4S phone without turning Push off. I couldn't do it so I just finally turned Push off on my phone. I left it on with my original iPad since I don't always have it with me and won't be annoyed by the constant notifications. My wife has also left Push on with her iPhone 4 as she doesn't mind the notifications. On those two devices every email gets pushed to them instantly with no exceptions. In the evening it's funny to have our laptops on and see emails pop up on them ( we share an iCloud account ) and then hear one by one as her phone and my ipad ( and an ipod touch that has the same account) sound off with those email notices.

So for what ever reason on our accounts and devices push email works flawlessly, sometimes to my chagrin!

Well, its obvious by now that iCloud's email is a joke. Its NOTHING but a REBRANDED MobileMe. I'm severely disappointed because Steve Jobs himself said iCloud was rebuilt from the ground up. Obviously, that wasn't the case. iCloud's email suffers the same crap as MobileMe's email and then some. PUSH notifications are completely unreliable. I also hate that when using a 3G connection...a lot of the times an email is only partially downloaded. Then there is the Junk Email issue. How are you suppose to know if something ended up in junk? I thought they would have set it up so you get a notification on the desktop and iPhone that something arrived in Junk. But of course, that's not the case. The only emails I get in Junk are good emails that were mistaken as junk. Of course I don't find out for at least a day or more because I didn't know the email was in there. The desktop client (in my case, PostBox) does't tell me and my iPhone doesn't tell me unless I scroll down to the junk folder itself and go into it. What a nightmare this setup is. I've already shot off an email to Tim Cook blasting iCloud's performance and to the iCloud team via the feedback page.
