Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

don't know if this will help, apparently it does,but not too sure on the 3Gs, may be someone give it a go and let us know, but it works on 3Gs running iOS 4~

Step 1: Navigate to, and launch one of the stock applications on your iPhone. If you don’t already know, the stock apps are things like weather, YouTube, stocks, settings etc (any that come as part of iOS).

Step 2: When the app is launched, press and hold the Power button located at the top of the device until the ‘Slide to power off’ appears.

Step 3: Press and hold the iPhone home button. Keep the button depressed until the Slide to power off slider disappears and the application quits back to Springboard.

Coupe: you said you have tried it - but did it work, ie did it remove the sluggisheness? In general, I'm starting to suspect that there are certain apps that misbehave and create a memory shortage when in background. What apps are you running?

I know what you mean. I too "updated" to IOS5 and my iPhone 4 got slower than gramps 🙂... but I fixed it!!

And yes I did the whole restart..reboot stuff... no change.

I turned off all background apps...helped..but not much change.

I turned off all my app notifications but Facebook, text, and Cal...no change.

I turned off Spotlight Search...no change.

So with all that off, not until I turned off all my iCloud stuff did I have the speed I once loved 😀

Note - With iCloud OFF (you just need to make sure you backup your phone the old fashion way..your comp).

Interesting that it works for you! We have 2 iPhone 3gs. One is with iCloud on and the other off. They are both as bad as each other!! Actually in fairness probably my husband (iCloud off) is slower than mine (iCloud on) but he uses angry birds etc!!

Try this pattern;

turned off all background apps,

turned off all app notifications,

turned off Spotlight Search,

turned off all apps for iCloud support

and then restart your phone.

Let me know if it works.

Springboard = Home Screen

Nothing works, and if someone says otherwise they do not know what they are saying (no offence) the ONLY solution to this issue is an iOS update fix....

I would ask everyone who has issues with their 3Gs and iOS 5/5.0.1 to submit your feedback/opinion to Apple

Yes I left feedback numerous times and called applecare as well, same upsetting answer "get a 4s"

Luckily got my hands on a mint iphone 3gs at cowboom.com for 149.00 and it came with 4.1.3

I'm sorry to hear that. I guess it just goes to show why apple comes out with a new phone every year....because they only last for one year.

It only makes you think though...

...conspiracy theory: B-] ..maybe they make the update to break (slow down) your phone that you would eventually get fed up and buy the latest iPhone and then we do it all over again.

to clarify, i haven't tried it personally, but a colleage who sits next to me said he tried and it seems faster, true or not, i don't know, so try it and see. 😀
