Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

Coupe, I think we should consider the close-all-apps thing as a temporary workaround until they fix the problem - hopefully in 5.0.2? Also, it's possible that one (or more) of your background apps is misbehaving, making the problem worse. I'm doing some detective work on my own 3GS and I haven't really pinned it down yet but I'm suspecting Facebook and Gmail as two possible culprits.

To be frank, I get rather frustrated with people who jailbreak their phones and then complain that they don't work properly. The "jail" is there for a purpose - it enables Apple to support a known, unhacked platform, which goes right to the "core" of what Apple is all about. I value that stability very much and I don't appreciate any activity that threatens it.

Maybe you misunderstood what I meant to say. I'm not encouraging jailbreaking, but the thing is that usually Apple give us an update AFTER a jailbreak option is out. And they don't let us to get our devices back to a iOS that was working ok for us.

If I could get my device back to 4.3.4 (as it was prior to the update) I would do it in a minute, but I don't have that chance.

Polarbreeze,

Maybe you are on the wrong thread. The core may be rotten my friend.

I've had 6 weeks of a slow performance and apps crashing. I've restored it to default and readded and reconfigured all my apps.

Where is this stability? Where is any acknowledgement from Apple or AT&T that they are concerned about this issue? Other than an offer to upgrade to a new phone for $200 and another 2 year commitment.

My older iTouch works perfectly well with the same software on it.

If a jailbreak would fix this at least I'd have a workable solution. Clearly the Apple approach is not working based upon this thread.

My 3GS became impossibly slow after updating to iOS5. 5.0.1 made no difference: it was, and is abysmally slow.

I then jailbroke it, on the basis I had little to lose. I did that to install WiFiFoFum, which I use a lot and which used to be on the App store. Now it is not there, and my copy from there will no longer load. Jailbreaking made no difference to the speed (in either direction).

A friend then suggested SBSettings - which has been a revelation! It tells me how much memory is available on the iPhone. If I clean out all the running apps, and then do a "Free Up Memory", there is around 125MB free. The iPhone runs a little faster (but still nowhere near as fast as when it was new and most stuff was instantaneous). A day or two later, with a load of apps sitting in the background, the memory is down to under 20MB and the phone is crawling again.

SBSettings needs a jailbroken phone: I'm sure Apple don't want us to see such information.

I would far prefer a "working properly" iOS without jailbreak, rather than the present shambles, jailbroken. I don't have much hope that we'll get that. I think the cunning plan is that I must buy a new phone to get the performance I used to have. If I do that, it (sadly) won't be an iPhone.

Iphone 3gs 16gb OS 5.0.1

after installed my phone sacked!

Camera Froze

Extremly slowly

Freezing, on Incoming Calls, On App Launch,Unlocking, On lock music(ipod) or online radio frozen for 10 secs and then play and frozen again etc

I didnt set up LIKE NEW, but i tried these:

Ok, after I read all of 21 pages, I tried

1)Deactivate all Spotlight

2)Turn off Icloud

3)Turn off Anonymous Data

4)Deactivate Find My iPhone

The most of problems deasapeared. Of course still have Freezing, Unlocking, on Incoming Calls, On App Launch, On lock music(ipod) or online radio frozen for 10 secs and then play and frozen again etc

So I deleted all the photos album ( make room i suggest) and work like on ios 4 no freezings etc

Still dissapointing, i have an Ios 5 with all function disabled and no camera album! YEAH... Really Perfect Apple Developers Nerds and Morons.. I prefer Micro-soft than this!!!

Hope help

ps. Of Course i have dissabled multitaskin, and let in bar only 3 application to run like online radio
