Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

@themistoklis_koyn,

Regarding the photos, it has been true since the first version of the iPhone that having too many photos on the Camera Roll slows down the camera. But, if you move them out of the Camera Roll into separate albums then the presence of many photos is not a problem. Apparenlty, the Camera Roll is tighly bound to the camera softare, but albums are just collections of files on your device. I think of it like a memory card in a real camera: if the memory card (the Camera Roll) gets full, then the camera doesn't work.

I think to create albums and move photos around you need to sync photos with iTunes or one of the Mac apps like iPhoto or something. I've done it, but don't remember as it was back in iPhone 1 days.

themistoklis.... good luck! I have tried restore as new - it was great for about a week - then hour by hour it slowed again. I am back to the sluggish iphone 3gs. To restore as new takes a bit of work - so I would suggest you prepare for that - and not be too dissapoointed if in a week you are back to square one.!! My husband also has 3gs on 5 - he does not use iCloud - and his phone is worse than mine!!

to be fair, the guy just work there,

it's the guys in the development team / upper decision making dudes that you should be contacting 🙂.

anyhow, i'm not encouraging anyone to jailbreak their phone.

i think you can do similar without jailbreak, by backup, and edit the backup to disable multitasking. then restore that backup to your phone. it's somewhere on google i read a while back to remedy the slowness in 3Gs,.

question is, why dont' apple implement those feature, ability to turn off and turn on (it's just 3line of simple coding) multitasking.

then other people woulnd't need to jailbreak in the first place. i love iOS 5.0 but it lag the **** out of my 3GS 32GB (with only 10~15 minor apps installed).

would love to have Apple sign old firmware again so we can atleast downgrade to iOS 4.x

at the moment using iP4S from work. may be switching to an Android later.

that's my 2c opinion. 😀

Come on guys, jailbreaking is not an option if you are supposed to have a great device with a great iOS (or at least one that makes your device run smooth). If the company policy is stop signing firmwares to avoid jailbreaking, then we are the victims here because we were told that this upgrade would give us a similar performance in ours 3Gs, and now we can't get our devices back to iOS 4.

I need to downgrade my firmware!!!!! That is the only solution I see.

Why should I disable multitasking if it is supposed to work as it used to?

All other alternatives are just small patches, but the final result, sooner or later, will be the same.

Mine in the opposite.

When connected to the genuine Apple power supply/charger - I cant use my phone at all - however I can when charging via USB on the PC - but the device is still slow.

I flush my device periodically - but I shouldnt need to - and removed all unwanted APPS and photos - and still no improvement.

How can the way that the memory on the phone be changed ?

We got all the problems as described by other users with our iphone 3gs after upgrade to ios5 and apple Should do something like providing a straightforward utility to downgrade back to ios4. For weeks now we try everything as suggested by other "victims" to fix the problems but without succes! Our smart phone became a dumPhone with Ios5 ... And the device is too expensive to throw it in the bin ...

Especially loosing 3Gnetwork connectivity is the biggest problem and turns this device to a ordinary mobile phone...

What is your opinion ?

Some solution here. And the only solution. The only bad thing is that I couldn't apply the latest backup (I made it with my 3Gs on iOS 5), so I had to apply the latest backup I had on 4.3.3. Now I realize how bad my 3Gs was working with iOS 5. It's running great again.

The main lesson that Apple gave us is to always save our SHSH blobs.

Jailbreaking may be the only solution.
