Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

I've kind of lost the thread here. Has anyone asked Apple support to retro their OS? I'm not talking about the Genious Bar folks, I mean an actual apple support dude.

I recently did the 5.01 update to my 3GS with no problems. It IS a little slower, but certainly NOT as crippled as what some report. This leads me to think that there is anotherroblem here than just the OS. It is not uncommon for an OS to run slower on the older hardware than on the current hardware for which the OS was created. See Win7 on old non-dual core or OSX on an early G4 processor.

I think that all the screaming at Apple is drowning out any true solution for the folks whose equipment has been crippled by the upgrade.

One of the Apple support guys answer was "buy a 4s". So I won't be expecting much action from the tech support guys. And yes, we are asking for Apple to let 3Gs owners with troubles after installing 5.0.1 roll back their devices to iOS 4. But no luck yet.

I hope you don't need to, but maybe you will be around here asking some questions in a few weeks when your smart phone will become stupid enough. Hope not!

AT&T.

But it was at the apple store that they were selling their remaining 3GS's for 99 cents. The guy I saw paid more for his case than his phone.

And a new 3GS wouldnt solve my problem, If anything I'd have a phone that was marginally functional for a month or so and then as useless as mine is now.

I try to keep most all of the background programs closed at all times, do not have Icloud set up, etc., etc. And it takes my phone about15-30 seconds to even begin opening a text message. I then have the whole message typed about 10 seconds before any text shows up. And almost all of my apps - texts included - freeze and crash on a regular basis.

I have found two solutions to the IOS5 crippling everyones iphone 3GS.

Option 1 - is upgrade to a 4GS. theyre much faster and the IOS5 works quite well on it. plus the camera is better

Option 2 - buy a NON-APPLE product. you wont have half as much grief as apple serve up.

my contract on 3gs is up. i have a real dilemma as to what to do. do i go for the 4gs or get a samsung galaxy? apple have no appetite to listen to customers feedback on here and fix the horrendos issues were all having with IOS5. the 4GS is at least 10x faster than the 3GS.

Honeycroft,

Option 1 is a non-starter for me. I was ready to buy an iPhone 5. When Apple released iPhone 4S instead, I was wary and now I'm happy I waited. Apple really screwed up with iOS 5: I can understand the issues with a new OS and I'm ok with them not supporting iOS 5 on older hardware. But they told me to upgrade just to brick my phone and they don't let me go back to a working phone. That's totally unacceptable.

I'm now working on option 2. As I won't buy another Apple product (and I've been using Apple-only both professionally and at home for more than 10 years now: I've had several notebooks, iMacs and Mac Pros plus iPods) till they show to care about their customers.

lol.

i myself own a 32GB 3Gs + 64GB 4S. and recently using an Android phone for the work number. kind of grew on me, fastness, live wallpaper, widgets.

but android to me is more for technical people, at start is a bit going about if you come from an Apple device, but it's all good, don't need to know all aspect.

i wouldn't recommend Android if you like to use simple stuff.

lucky i haven't update the 3Gs to ios 5, but i however did save the SHSH blobs just in case apple new iOS is laggy like how iOS 4 with 3G

anyhow, i suspect it happen on minority of the 3Gs user or not as many for Apple to Care 😀

short term fix for now is to shutdown all apps. otherwise disable multitask, turn off all spotlight search use only application, turn off iCloud, and i think you should be OK.
