Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

Agreed

This is the third apple product that ive had which has been hosed by their forced "updates"

One being a 2,000 laptop which stopped functioning properly after installing one of their update packages. Not to mention every person I know with the same computer had their battery rendered useless after about 6 months use.

Can't wait until his iPhone 4, IPad 2, and whatever other apple products are rendered inert by the forced apple updates meant for the iPhone 5, iPad 3, and everything else scheduled to use their new quad A6 chips over the dual A5's. Going to be tough to convince people to blow a 1200 on a new iPad or 300 on a new phone once the yearly forced obsoletion pattern is recognize on a larger scale.

I don't mind that my phone is a year an a half old and a new model came out. What I mind is telling me that I have to update or I'll be locked out of iTunes and calander software and then then once I do my phone is garbage.

This story might not hit the papers with the 3GS owners. But wait until they do it to the 4's with an iPhone 5 update 4 months from now.

Guys jailbreak is not an option unless you have say blobs.

Phone gets even worst even if you disable multitask!

I am extremely tired of restoring phone to factory.

Once and if they will fix this problem on 3gs I won't even bother upgradeing. Why only to f up the phone?!

Now I feel like I am holding iPhone 3G on latest ios. It's laggy but at least it performs faster then this pice of ****!

And there is nothing wrong with my phone it was working perfectly fine on 4.x. So no it's no tear and ware of hardware.

I am just waiting and checking forums for solutions and for apple updates. Keeping my eye on this forum hoping that apple will come up with solution!

I Getting tired of this and very frustrated.

My upgrade is due and I don't think I can upgrade to 4S only because of this **** I've been going through with this phone. I was an apple fan boy before but now don't feel like it no more. I'd pribably go with galaxy s2/3 at least I can flash that device with any custom rom and it works faster. Besides their icecream sandwich is an amazing update.

It's like 3.1.3 to 5.0 that a big jump for android. Email support has been improved web brouwsing improved. And it works faster then 3GS comparing to my brothers galaxy s1 to mine which is running 4.0.3!

So yea after playing with it I fell in love with it and now I really consider diching apple.

For the rest of you who are same tired as me check out android 4.0 you'll see massive difference from 2.x.

And I hated android!

I think I've said enough!

Apple have let me down badly with this, phone was working fine until I updated new system, haven't done iCloud. Have spent literally hours trying to fix this, followed every instruction with no effect. I can't even make calls as I get 'no service' message. I am in the process of moving to a different continent & this could not be happening at a worse time. It's not my provider, it's apple & I bought my phone from the store directly. Feel like I've been swindled. The phone is completely useless & I'm guessing there are hundreds of thousands of us out there, come on apple, do your job, even my 8 year old Nokia is managing to function.i even tried to call 911/999 & NOTHING happened. There's a responsibly to your customers here apple. Get a move on.

Ok after punching and denting my Bin - accidently deleting my contacts and magically discovering them again I have it cracked! I went through all the settings and basically turned any new features that worked in the background over wifi etc off -i.e.icloud, notifications and other nasties- all of these were not needed for my general usage of my phone and now all works just fine like it used to. I am glad as the only reason I went to i.o.s 5 is for GTA 3! so glad I can actually play this and have a working phone now!

Honeycomb,

Your maturity finally exposes itself in naked form... I suspected all along you have no interests in advancing the issues in this thread, rather you simply wish to express your own little vendetta against Apple and it's supporters, along with personalising your silly little views towards other users, some of whicih are actually here to be constructive.

Sadly , your pathetic outbursts are misplaced, because I have no interest in supporting Apple, or its followers.

I simply added posts here to encourage people to try a few things out, because that's what I did , and now have a fully and perfectly working 3GS, as the poster above me has discovered. Needless to say its positively the last time I bother making the effort on this particular forum.

I'm not going to give you the filthy pleasure of throwing insults in your direction, simply to wish good luck on your path - may it take you far far away from mine.

Dan and Jim

It's all too little too late from you guys. This thread has only exposed that after 4 months, Apple have done nothing to fix the ios5 to make it viable for the 3GS model. Read the threads originates last post for gods sake!!!!!

Neither of you have fixed the issue so I will view your responses in the same way you do mine.

As for both of your personal attacks, I couldnt care less about what you think. If my comments have offended you then good. Some people just have no sense of humour whatsoever. However some folk here have actually found some of my posts amusing and have acknowledged this. So you only speak for yourselves.

I have actually found a solution to the problem. That is (in my situation) to buy an iPhone 4S. A truly great invention and one that works fantastically well with ios5.

So I know what I am speaking about and I still sympathise with the plight of 3GS users elsewhere. I don't belittle the efforts they are making to try to get their phones to work properly. Like them, I just wish apple would address this glaring issue.

And it's Honeycroft NOT Honeycomb.if your gonna attack me, FFS at least get the name right.

I'm baffled as to why insults are being traded. The problem is simple, and has been stated many, many times by owners who have experienced the problem.

I had an iPhone 3GS which worked well. Apple recommended that I should upgrade the iOS. That slowed it down to the point I couldn't use it. Error 1 on Apple's part. I wanted to go back to the old iOS that worked. NO, said Apple, we won't let you. Error 2 on Apple's part.

So I bought a new phone and gave away the 3GS. Problem solved, but cost me £400. That's the price of following Apple's "recommendation".

What is it with Apple that the customer is ignored? What is it with some Apple users that they want to deny the problem exists?

Folks, if you "updated" your 3GS and don't have the problem, you are very lucky. Don't yell at the victims.

But to those who are able to see: if your Apple product is working well, WAIT to implement any "update" till there is enough experience out there to indicate whether the device will work afterwards. Because Apple will deny there's a problem and block you reversing the update.

Myerson didn't answer, since Microsoft hasn't even announced its next mobile platform. But he did take the opportunity to slam Apple:

I think Apple ‑‑ you're right, you can download iOS 5 for iPhone 3G, and it won't be usable, but it's possible to install .... It's a great hardware sales tool as far as I can tell. Install this OS which makes your hardware unusably slow, so then you feel compelled to go back to the store and buy a new piece of hardware. [Editor: he probably meant the 3GS, not the 3G, which doesn't support iOS5.]
