iOS 5 Crash Issues

Since upgrading to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 (3G+WiFi) I am getting a lot of crashes in both Mail and Safari.

In Mail, it crashes on first start-up and then loading it a second time I get in fine. This is repeated after moving away from mail and going back in

In Safari, this appears to be on different webpages (including Apple iMessage verify mail) and happens during browsing. I can barely recall crashes on iOS 4 but find them a lot on iOS 5.

Anyone else seeing the same thing?

My problems werent related to crashes, but definitely related to memory problems after upgrading to iOS 5... It was saying that I only had a few GB of capacity left and I could only store 2 Tv shows on there, even though the list of videos, and memory taken up by apps did not add up to the full amount it was saying it was using. I ended up doing a "Reset All Settings" function to do a hard reset, and it worked. I guess it cleaned it up?? I have the memory capacity back to download and store alot more music and videos.

We've had our iPad 1 for almost a year and had never had a crash. I upgraded to IOS5, or 5.0.1 (9A405) to be precise, and have started experiencing crashes in Safari. Annoyingly, the upgrade also lost all my bookmarks in Safari. It seems we're not alone which makes me wonder when Apple will be releasing a patch?

I think I have found a solution here. I like all of the others on this post was getting a multitude of crashes happening on my iPad 1 after upgrading to 5.0 and then patching to 5.01. I turned off my iCloud but this also didn't fix. The solution for me was restore the iPad back to factory settings (using iTunes). When you do this, it will ask you if you want to backup all of your data and settings. Answered yes to this. It restored it to factory 5.01 and then asked me if I wanted to restore my backup onto the iPad. After a couple of hours of copying back and forth in iTunes, it was ready to go and so far no crashes in Safari, settings, app store, and other major apps that I use all of the time (Evernote being a key one that was crashing left right and center).

Not sure why Apple hasn't posted this but I guess if you do read the iTunes note on the restore option which says to do so if you are having problems with your iPad, then they probably have it covered.

Hope this helps some other really frustrated iPad users like myself. Back to enjoying my iPad again!

Ever since I had upgraded to ios 5.1 from 5. My iPhone had gone through more then 3 dozen iOS crash. Yes it's not only app crash not only safari crash but the whole system just reboots after couple of seconds of stuck iPhone. And don't ask me about safari, camera app, Facebook, alarm, n lots of other apps. If this was the big idea of apple then what should I do. Afters steves death it's like these guys stopped working. Hope for the best.

I am using an iPad 1 and it was perfect before the ios5 update. I have had multiple crashes per minute of apps. Some wont even start unless I turn it off and restart. It is horrible! Still, it is a better performer than the Android platform. APPLE please fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only solution I have to is to shut down your apps in the background manually.

1. Double tap HOME button

2. Longpress an icon you want to shut down (all the apps in the row will start shaking)

3. Tap the "x" on each app you want to forceclose.

If it's still buggy do a Shut off or restart

1. Press the power button and home button simultaneously until shut off toggle shows or it restarts.

2. If you choose to toggle, just press the power button to start.

I have had all of the problems discussed in this forum and tried everything from restarting to restoring. Someone else has suggested going to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html and giving Apple feedback. I am urging everyone of you to go to this site and voice your concerns and complaints. If everyone of us gives Apple feedback maybe They will do something to solve the problems.

Recently I've been getting fairly frequent Safari crashes on my iPad 1 using iOS 5.0.1. Some crashes using Flipboard too, but most often Safari. To help diagnose the cause try Settings>Info>Diagnostics & data and in there look at the data section. Each app crash produces a time-stamped stack trace with a title indicating what went wrong - in my case it's always "Low memory". If you're technical enough you can check in the stack trace what apps were using memory at the time and how much, etc., but the title is often sufficient to see what's going wrong.

It seems that either Safari has a memory leak or perhaps the iPad 1 simply lacks sufficient RAM to run the iOS 5 version reliably (iPad 1 has only 256MB RAM vs 512MB for the iPad 2). Given the number of iPad 2 users here reporting Safari crashes with iPad 2s however I suspect it's a memory leak that triggers the crashes more frequently on iPad 1s due to their lesser RAM. As you can see in the Diagnostics & Data section there is the option to send these reports back to Apple, it's probably worth setting this on to assist Apple with diagnosing the problem.

There's tons of other iPad owners experiencing the same issues after the OS 5.0.1 update when trying to use Safari. NONE of the known "fix its" will work or resolve the crashes, as after performing any one of the known fix its, the redundant crashes & memory issues persist.

iPad 2 crashes

iPad 2 safari crashes

iPad 2 crashes after update

Safari crashes

iPad 2 OS crashes

The above linked thread is growing daily - gotta keep posting these concerns to get Apple's attention.

Even folks who utilize certain web sites are posting the issues in those specific forums, because the problem is also beyond the Apple Communities.
