KiltedTim, I'm not sure why you would feel the need to ask the OP why they want to turn off 3G? Why? When they have stated that is what they wish to do? Why would you pointlessly question their motives?
I used to be able to turn off 3G on my 4 but not my 4S. Its an irritating problem for some people including myself, who live close to a 3G tower but not close enough to make the 3G signal useful. The phone however seems to think the 3G signal is useful, until I come to use it. Then it drops out. That's why most of us want to disable it sometimes.
Asked and answered many times over long before you felt the need.
calls drop when switch from 3G to EDGE is made!!! that's why i need to turn off 3G...

Guys is it confirmed to have it in the next update ??
Until the next update is actually released, anything is possible and nothing can be confirmed.
Boocy,
I don't know why you feel the need to comment on a post that is over 3 months old...
I am really need this feature. Please add it as in iPhone 4.
Hi, from my 4s I do the following : settings-general-network-data. By pressing data the 3g signal is on or the opposite.
That turns off cellular data or internet access via your carrier's cellular network completely, not just 3G network access.
Only AT&T iPhones can disable 3g so you that's why you can find the option.
Hi, I am sorry but I do not know what AT&T is. Can you please tell me ?
Actually, you can. This option is back in iOS 5.1 beta, and if a feature is readied in beta it has never in the past been taken away AGAIN. The only reason they would get rid of a feature added to the beta would be if it compromised the phone in some way or violated some legal requirements or contracts with the cell carriers. Expect it in the public release of 5.1 for sure.
If you do not know what AT&T is, I would say Google it... But then again, if you don't know what AT&T is you probably don't know what Google is either.
Macteen only ATT has the disable 3G feature in the upcoming update as CDMA networks must run 3G. I only get that feature when I insert my ATT sim. My bell one does not have it.
You know, some times is nice just to give a simple answer, lets just say : google it ... or you just ignore the question if you think that is out of your standards of knowledge.
Is far better than insulting someone that you do not really know.

Yes, features have been in beta releases and not in final releases, for just the reasons you mentioned and, for ones we probably will never know. Until it has been released, nothing is set in stone.
