iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

I couldn't stand the yellow tint on my Iphone. I went through 3 replacements before giving up and getting a refund - it looked like someone had blown cigarette smoke all over the screen:

This doesn't go away like the articles suggest. I left my yellow tinted phone on full brightness with no auto lock for days with no improvement.

I'll just stick with my original IP4 with beautiful clear whites.

One important thing is what's Apple believes is a "good" screen. I put the pictures taken by kevwkev next to an screenshot from Apple iPhone webpage: (iPhone 4, Screenshot, iPhone 4S)

In my personal thought the 4S image looks very similar to the "official" screenshot.

I'm waiting for my iPhone 4S (I'm in europe), but I'm very concerned that they changed something

in the screen. I believe that is the best attribute of the iPhone, is just perfect.

Had my 4S now for approx. 2 weeks and after comparing with my Dad's, his screen is crystal white as it should be. I then compared with my iPod touch 4G and as you can see it also shows how my 4S has a yellow tint to it. I'm gonna book a Genius appt as it is annoying to have a yellow tint to 95% of webpages and email.

This is an update....

In my attempt to replicate the yellow vs cool blue screen, I compared my MBP (2/2011) to my MB (2006) next to each other, and was I so surprised. I placed my 4S in the middle.. (All set at 100% brightness.)...

I know it's a stretch, but I do feel for those who do have the yellow hue on your iphone 4S... I would return it, too, if it is as yellow as my MB.

I didn't realize how yellow my MB was until now. I swear it wasn't like that when I first got that 5 years ago. Perhaps the overall quality of the screens differ year after year. APPLE definitely needs to revamp their Quality Control Dept.

I bought my 4S last week (32GB). Production week is week 47, the week before I bought it.

It has the Yellow screen...

My girlfriend her 4S has the normal screen with normal whites and also more backlight.

In the shop where I bought mine, one guy just told me "I can not see the difference". You had to be blind not to see the difference. His other answer was: "You should have bought the Galaxy S2. Shall we do a droptest".

What an **hole. Then I contacted Apple support (we don't have an actual apple store her in Belgium). They told me that the are aware of the problem, and that I had to ask for an exchange. But the shop where I bought it don't do exchanges, so I have to send it out to apple. So no iphone for at least a weak.

I contacted customer service of the shop where I bought it (Belcompany Belgium). He also was aware of the problem. He told me the story of the glue, which i did not buy off course. He told me to send out pictures of the 2 4s's next to each other. I did so: his answer was that the 2 were not all that different. Problem is that the difference in the pictures is not as high as when you see it in real life.

I will wait for 3 weeks, just before the 1 month period, see if the yellow goes to white. If not, i will return and hopefuly I get a good one.

The lack of response from Apple is fairly spectacular.

The problem is, if they admit a product problem, that could precipitate a full recall of affected iPhone 4Ss. The fault is not a danger to users, and I suspect that would be the only case in which they would make any such statement. They are watching the bottom line.

Perhaps like the poor signal on the 4 owing to users actually holding it - unlike the human free test facility where signal is tested at Apple - they will issue the equivalent of the 'bumper'. Perhaps a blue or violet acetate filter to lay over the top of the yellow screen to neutralise it. 😐

I'm still on my first 4S despite four yellow replacements, two 'replacements' a week apart at the Covent Garden Apple Store, both just as yellow and I walked out both times with my original iPhone 4S, although in their now familiar way, the 'genius bar' messed up the paperwork and recorded the swap as having happened....

....which in turn messed up my swap I tried to arrange direct with apple, as they now had the wrong serial registered to me - so another few days delay whilst that was reversed.

...then I received two further replacement iPhones within a week, both of the screens just as yellow, the person arranging the swap became unobtainable for days - she had 'been away for a few days', and when that happens at Apple, apparently noone else deals with problems, that was on the 30th Nov, yesterday another one arrived, it too is yellow.

Very boring waste of my time, luckily Apple employees get paid to be so inefficient.

On the Plus side, if this was a LaCie forum about their drives, or a Crucial forum where they claimed 100% compatibility for their M4 SSD drives in MacBook Pros, the post would have been vetted and never posted on their site - fact, that's what they do. Fair play to Apple, at least they leave this potentially sales damaging stuff for all to read - that I do have respect for, even if the rest of my iPhone debacle is less admirable.

sal328-

I underestand and like you I hope this gets resolved sooner than later because I'm one of those people having to go back every week to see if they have a new set of iPhone 4S ready to sell/exchange. I'm sitting here comparing my iPhone 4S to my buddy's iPhone 4 and the differences is just insane. His colors really pop and mine look washed up, it's not as bad as some of the pictures I've seen on here for other iPhone 4S - BUT - it's def. not where I'd like my iPhone 4S to be at right now. Here are some screenshots (taken off of my buddy's iPhone 4S):

BTW, I've got a Genius Bar appointment after work here. So wish me luck (AGAIN)!

You have to be crazty to think the yellow screen looks good.

The yellow screen is washed out and is not clear or crisp like it should be. Not all iphone 4s screen are yellow because some of my friends have the nice clear screens just like to ones on display at the apple stores not yellow at all.

Here is a pic of a nice 4s screen next to a crappy yellow 4s screen

you can clearly see how washed out the color is on the yellow screen.

Purchased two new iPhone 4S 16GB models on January 7, 2012 at the local Apple Store. One iPhone 4S was white and the other was black. Both had serial numbers starting with DNP*. The white iPhone 4S had a display with excellent color, but the black iPhone 4S display was noticably washed out when placing both iPhones side by side with auto brightness disabled and max brightness set (see photo below). Decided to keep the white iPhone 4S with the excellent display and return the washed out black model. The Apple Store associate quickly processed the return with no issues. Will probably wait for the iPhone 5 or an iOS color temp utility to be released before purchasing again. It is surprising to see this amount of variation in an Apple product.

Observations:

The black DNP 4s was slightly pitched to pink.

The white C38 was very neutral.

The white C39 was slightly pitched to blue.

My first C39 Black 4s was pitched to green heavily.

My second C39 Black 4s is pitched to creamy yellow, and has a much lower contrast than all other phones. Good for photos/videos, horrible for reading text.

The White C38, and C39 are closest to the 3g in color temperature.

Hi guys!

I have taken a picture of my girlfriends Iphone 4 8GB and my own Iphone 4S 16GB. The 4 is on the left and the 4S is on the right. What do you think? Seems to me I've got a pretty okay screen. It was very hard to get the colors right in the pic. I'm using a Nikon D90 but the colors are still not the same as irl. I would say both telephones look better irl than in the photo. Both are more luminous, and while the 4 has a more red/pink tint irl, the 4S is more white than in the pic. User uploaded file
