iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

Hi ,

I recently have changed my Iphone 4 for an Iphone 4S.

As most of us experience, my 4S also has a yellow touch/tint compared to my old 4.

Recently, when I was working on my laptop, my 4S was laying next to my laptop and I noticed my laptop screen was much more yellow flavoured than my 4S.

So I decided to compare my 4S with my Samsung 226BW which was also more yellow tinted than my 4S.

I've made a picture of all my screens (I know the picture isn't perfect, but trust my words 😉 )

From left to right: Iphone 4 - laptop - Iphone 4S - Samsung 226BW.

Initially, I also preferred my old Iphone 4 screen, but after getting used to the more warmer screen of the 4S (and after comparision with other LCD-screens), I've accepted my 4S as 'normal'.

Just my 2cents

Best regards.

CONFIRMED!

Forget the legend of the glue. It is even a "problem" calibration color temperature. I took a picture of my iPhone with my sony cybershot, and in the photo the colors seemed much more natural.

See the comparison picture I put there two posts back and see the picture I took with the camera sony:

Let's stop complaining get between us and we will require Apple to correct the temperature through an update. Or that includes a temperature control in iOS 5.1. Send your stories using the feedback form (http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html). And do not forget to indicate the serial number.

I have sent my message.

Apple can and need to fix this bug. And she has to hear us. Let's at least try.

I am a professional photographer and work with calibrated monitors...I calibrate at 5500 K

with an eye1. This dulls the colors a bit and warms the whites. I do this so I can be in sync with my printing.

Even so I went to the apple store on my monitor at home and on both 4 and 4S phones. The Iphone 4S was

even more yellow than my calibrated monitor. I love showing clients pics of my work on the 4. Im disgusted with the 4S and what a waste of my entire day it has become! The white is not white Period! I can only hope the glue is the issue not a poor manufactured glass (which is what I think it is) I feel they may have rushed the drying process with heat and burned the glue) I will be returning it soon... Ill give it 3 weeks

I bought my black iphone 4s on Feb 7th , then I realized it got a yellow tint on March 4th because this is my first iphone until I compared to my friend white iphone 4s that has a blue tint. I am so disappointed with my phone screen , so I read that the yellow tint was cause by the glue is not dry yet . At March 11th I put my phone to full brightness with auto lock off to keep the screen on for more than 7hours a day . 2 days later the yellow tint start going away until today my phone screen now display a true white not bluewish white. But the top of the screen still remain a little yellow tint on it ,it will goes away in a few days more , the screen now looks better every day. You can choose not to believe me but this really works for me 🙂 Sorry, the photos are taken by my old adroid phone with no auto focus. You can see the top in the first photo still remain a little yellow tint on it.

I received my iPhone 4s last weekend. Not only it's yellow comparing to my iPhone 4 it's also unsharp and blurry.

Here are two pictures showing them together. Do I have to tell you which one is the 4s? User uploaded file

The 4s is going back to where I got it from and they told me they must first check it before I eventually get a replaced unit. It can take up to 3-4 weeks. That's the service in Sweden!

I compared my iPhone 4 I purchased at launch day last year with a coworker who just got a 4s. I noticed immediately the yellow tint on his 4s. Oddly I had the same issue with my 3G. My black 3G had a yellow tint and my wife's white 3G had the bluish tint. The yellow tint never went away and I lived with it, but when I got my 4 I was much happier with the cooler white. I won't be getting a 4s though until they resolve this. I don't want to go back to a yellow screen.

I just found the old discussion on the 3G. The yellow color never got better on my 3G.

CONFIRMED: my 4s's yellow screen is definitely fading!

Received mine on 10/20 and today's 10/26. Comparing to my brother's 4 it definitely had this yellow tint problem. I was going to ask for a replacement right away but many people said replacements also had yellow tint, and I didn't want a refurbished one since the one I have right now have pretty good backlight and zero dead pixel.

6 days later, I definitely see that the yellow tint has faded. I put 4 beside my 4s in completely dark room, maximum brightness, auto brightness off, and I no longer see white as yellow. 4 got cooler color but the white background even seems a little blue, rather. What's important here is that the severe yellowness actually goes a way with time. Trust me, it's not my eyes accustomed to this new screen.

Here is what I did:

-I found displayed 4s in Apple Store usually do not have yellow screens (some actually did). I confirmed with a friend who works @ genius bar that they don't purposely select good screen to the display. They just pull randomly selected 4s's out of delivered boxes and put them to display.

-It is true that displayed 4s's in Apple Store got settings set at maximum brightness and auto brightness turned off. And people touch them all day long so screen is almost always on.

-I did the same: For the last 3 days I set the brightness to maximum and turned off the auto brightness. I even brought on pure white wallpaper photo, no auto-lock, and kept the display on for 2-3 hours every day (for the last 3 days). Also played some videos in full screen as well even if I wasn't watching it. Basically I tried to keep the screen on the maximum brightness as long as possible.

Now, I no longer find my phone to be yellow. I believe if I keep using the phone on the maximum brightness for the next few weeks it will get better (though I'm already satisfied with my current screen).

IMPORTANT: Also, when you compare your screen with others, make sure the screen protector is off, especially the anti-glare or anti-fingerprint ones. They DO make your screen look less sharp and some even give yellow color.

Lastly, when screen is seen from the left it's more yellow than facing from the front. When seen from the right, it's more blue. I checked most of 4s from the Apple Store displayed ones, they were all the same in this aspect. My friends' and family's 4's all got this viewing angle difference.

I hope my observation and experience have helped you a little.

And there was another guy who wrote:

"I can't believe I'm honestly saying this, but the yellow does fade.

I have also been running my brightness at full blast for the past few days with autolock off and the screen is definitely becoming more neutral. I'm a display snob and calibrate everything, I understand how LED backlighting works and why we get colors we get. I just assumed the color temp on the phone was overly warm and this "glue" nonsense was ********.

It's warmer than my iPhone 4.....rather my iPhone 4 is ridiculously blue and I never noticed it. It makes the UI look good, but everything else is flat. The only issue I'm having now is that the backlight/color is a little uneven. More pink on the left and more green on the right. Hoping this evens out too."

Completely false information. I guarantee that either that he is somehow affiliated with Apple, or he got used to the screen just like most people have. This issue does not go away, and has plagued iPhone screens since the 3GS. Many are still confused from getting wrong information about this situation.

For some reason the 4S has been getting more attention regarding the discolored screens, I'm not sure why but it's good to see that more people are more aware of this issue.

This is a very long thread, but has all the information you need regarding what everyone is going through.

I'm not bashing Apple, but it's clear that they are aware of the consistency in their iPhone screens. People consider this as normal, since Apple will considers it to be "in spec".

You DO get used to it, and more than likely most of you will be upgrading anyway when the 5 is released. Hopefully they will have better consistency with their screens. If it does bother you, it's important to know that you have do have 30 days whether you want to return the phone. You can keep playing the lottery to get the screen you like, or like I said just get used to it.
