iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

yeah i've compared the phones without any screen protectors on.

from what i've learned, some 4S screens are extremely yellow, some have a slightly warmer tint compared to the 4, some have washed out colors and low contrast.

originally i had a 4S that was really yellow, it was difficult to live with so i went back to Apple and exchanged for another one. That one didn't have the bad yellow tint but the contrast was not correct and everything looked brighter and lighter than usual which was very harsh on my eyes especially when reading text. I decided to come back to Apple again for ANOTHER exchange, this time the screen is not horribly yellow, it has a slight warmer tint compared to the 4 but it doesn't look defective and the contrast is correct. I took it to my mom's to compare with her 4S and unfortunately hers has the ugly yellow tint. It makes the screen look like it's dirty if that makes any sense. She's still trying to reserve another 4S to exchange. I've decided that i don't need the "cool" tint because i think it gives a very unnatural tone to skin color when viewing photos. Also, I don't want to risk getting another lemon.

This whole yellowgate is absolutely BS and completely unacceptable from Apple. I have been going through a lot BS because of this issue. I bought one IPhone 4s (black 16 gb) at launch day and it has been fine since the minute I took it out of the box. A week later I got another Iphone 4s (same exact model, black 16 gb) and it had a horrible yellow tint since day one. I waited 14 days to test the BS glue theory, but as I expected it was the same ugly screen. So I had that replaced with another Iphone 4s (same black 16 gb) and it had the same exact yellow tint, so I didn't even take it home. Returned it at the spot.

So finally after paying multiple activation fees, I was fed up and comprised by buying a white Iphone 4s (also 16 gb) and again it had a yellow tint. Although I must admit the yellow tint on the white wasn't as bad as it was on the previous two black 4s. Nonetheless, it was unacceptable since I had a perfect Iphone 4s from launch day to compare it with so I returned that one as well.

I'm pretty sure I know what is going on here after this long debacle. Apple is using different manufacturers for their screen. Some of the screen are perfect and has the normal "blue" tint. While other manfacturers has a different yellow tinted screen. The first batch of phones (launch day) probably used the same great manufacturer, which is why my iphone 4s and others who got them at launch day have the normal screen. And after that Apple started to use a POS manufacturer for its screen, which is why my last 3 iphone 4s all had the yellow tint.

This is completely unacceptable for Apple to comprise on its quality. I probably wasted several days and a lot money for all those activation fees because of this BS from Apple.I have several other Apple products and I have never had a single issue before so I'm very dissappointed to say the least.

update. My 4s came back from assistance as "not repaired cause it's fully-working". When i turned it on, instead, they replaced the screen or did something cause it's not yellow anymore, it has warmer tint (that i like) BUT, no contrast and got a very very illuminated point in the top-right of the screen. Called assistance, and sended the phone back yesterday. I will keep sending it back till, they give me a perfect 4s (PERFECT yes cause if i buy Apple is cause i want something PERFECT) or give me my money back.

Ok this is my fourth iphone 4s and this is one still has a yellow tint compared to the my other iphone 4s (bought at launch day)...it's more acceptable. The previous 3 were significantly more yellow. However, the first one is brighter and has better contrast. I will probably just live with it now...and maybe after a few weeks, it will acquire the "blue" pearl white tone per the glue theory. But I doubt it.

It's funny--the color difference was really noticeable at first, but then I kind of got used to it (or didn't care), but the past week or so, I feel like it's been even more obvious. And not just the color, but the general non-crispness of the screen. I've only been using my 4 for my morning alarm, so I haven't been spending hours comparing them side-by-side, but I'm definitely feeling more and more bummed and annoyed by it. It's just so obvious when I use the phone that it's not up to the quality of the 4. I think if I'd known screen quality (pretty much my favorite feature of the 4) wasn't going to be up to snuff, I wouldn't have bothered with the 4S. I hope I do eventually get used to it, but now I'm doubting I will.

I'm also having this problem on my new iPhone 4S white 32 GB I received last Friday. my screen is yellow, very low contrast, white is almost yellow and black is almost gray. This screen is terrible when compared with the screen of my iPhone 4. I checked my serial number on the following website and this is the information I got:

Serial number: DNP....

I contacted Apple and I'm getting a replacement. They didn't even want to look at the photo's I made of the iPhone 4S screen along my old iPhone 4. I hope the replacement iPhone will have a better screen but I fear the worst.

it's discouraging. i'm on my third phone with the same yellow tint. the store gave me the same story about how i needed to give it a few weeks for the glue to dry.

what are the prefixes of your serial numbers? i had thought that it could be narrowed down by that, but i guess not as the DNPs get the yellow tint too per earlier threads.

first phone - DNP, white screen but loose home button

second phone - C39, yellow screen

third phone - C37, yellow screen

I ordered a white 32gb 4S on the 24th of October, received it on the 7th of November. Screen is nice and yellow as I feared. I put up with a yellow iphone 4 for over a year (after seeing all the display models in Solihull Apple Store were as bad as mine) but after using my 3GS inbetween selling my 4 and my 4S arriving, I can't stand to pay 600 quid for a defective screen again. It gets to the point where you don't like to look at your phone as it irritates you. I just returned mine for a refund as I don't want to be told it hasn't got a fault and I'll have to live with it. I'll order one more and if it's yellow I'll probably keep my 3GS till the next iphone. Ironic as it sat unused for over a year but it runs ios5 very nicely.

Even the yellow isn't the main problem, and there is sometimes glue (seems more orange to me) that dries up, but the woeful contrast is the real deal breaker. Everything that has a light background looks awful. I love my ibooks and this milky vaseline screen ruins them. Brightness has to be turned up so high that it produces a glare, like staring into a headlight!

I really hope Apple sort this out with their next iphone screen as the first five models have all suffered from it.

My Iphone4S has 6 dinstictive white spots on the screen.. They are permanently there.. When I take a photo or video they appear on the photo and video also when I play them back.. however when sent to my sister's Iphone4S they are clear as... Very bizarre... I will be going back to the store of purchase as I bought mine outright.. Hopefully they will exchange it for me.. The screen also has a cloudy look.. I took my screen protector off, thinking it may have caused the problem, but unfortunately it is still there... Grrrrr

Same problem on my german iPhone 4S, black 32 gigs.

I'm on my 4th device by now. First one had serious problems with the homebutton (and, sadly, a really good display). Second had an antenna defect, and a green tinted screen, but I didn't exchange for that. The exchange iPhone had a quirk on the antenna band and was exchanged right in the store for my 4th iPhone, the one I'm using now.

This ones great, really silent vibration (the 1st and 3rd were quite bad), no problems while on calls... and a slightly yellow, low-contrast screen with bad viewing angles. I'm alright with the warmer screen as the iPhone 4 and all previous iPhones had a color temperature definitely too cold for using standard sRGB content, but the quite low contrast is really bugging me.
