iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

Hello from Paris.

Got my new 4s as you, and i noticed the yellow tint too, compared with my friend's iphone 4. It's annoying.

I made an appointement with Le Louvre's apple store's Genius Bar to see what they'll say about it, for tomorrow.

My serial number also begin with C39, so it's not limited to C38 and DNP serials.

Also note that my Iphone is a white 4s.

Ps : I forgot to add that i've tested other 4s in Le Louvre's Apple store, some exposure models, and compared it to mine, and what i can say is that the yellow tint is a bit random, some had it more than mine ( a little bit), and some were nice, like my friend's iphone 4, so i think there's something strange in this story.

my problem with iphone 4s white color 16G , the screen of the 4s (white color) is YELLOW.

What can i do for that ?

an update after my last post from a couple of weeks ago.

The Genius in the Apple store was WRONG.

After waiting for the "glue to dry", absolutely NOTHING happened.

The screen is still as yellow as it was when I received it on Oct 14th.

Things may be different from person to person, but in my case there was NO CHANGE in the yellow tint from waiting.

This issue is not going away anytime soon.

Received mine today here in Spain. 16Gb, black model, serial DNX...

The screen is different from the one in the iPhone 4. The colors look less "crisp" in the 4S, and the whites are yellowish.

I watched over 50 movies (previews) in iTunes with both phones side to side and I have to say that all of them looked much better in the 4S. The colors are more natural and there was a lot of details in dark zones that doesn't showed in the 4.

I think that the eye would adapt over time, but I have a big doubt, is this a intended change or a faulty lot of screens? Like in many other cases (antenna or proximity sensor issues) I don't expect any kind of statement from Apple acknowledging that there's a problem.

If I keep the iPhone know and in a couple of months all screens produced are more white I would end with a "faulty" iPhone than nobody would want if I resale it in the future.

Looking for some clues in the Apple website I found the video about the iPhone, "Watch the iPhone 4S video".

Go ahead and play it, then forward to 3:40. You would see the camera app and later the locked screen.

Is yellow and is exactly the screen that I have right now. I want to think that Apple used a "good" unit to make this video.

Other screenshots in the Apple website:

If you look at "Built-in Apps", then "Browse All..." then "More Built-in...", you can see the "Notes" screenshot, it had a level of yellow that is more similar to my 4S screen, but mine is less saturated.

The "Calculator" is identical (look at the results display, my 4S had the same color).

The "Reminders" app looks white in my iPhone 4 but not in the website, whick look more similar to the color in the 4S.

I find confusing the fact that all looks great, except the whites. I don't expect that this would improve over time.

More strange to me is the fact that some people had white screens (but nobody published any picture). I wonder if those people are using the full bright? If I raise the bright in the 4S you can hardly tell which one is the 4 or the 4S. Obviously that level of bright would toast the battery too fast.

Italy again here...sended my yellow-tinted 4s back to apple support the 2 of nov.Today received it back, same yellow tint, same home button problems.Tech-support report says "Not able to reproduce the issue".

800€ thrown in the wc...btw...my 4s is goin back to support again on monday...and will send it back everyday till they don't solve my issue.

I repeat it again...this is not a warm/cold tint problem. This is not a glue-to-dry problem. The yellow will not go away even after 3 weeks...This is a cheap-crappy-****** display. My 29€ nokia 1616 looks much better. Very, very disappointed here, first for the quality of this 800€ thing, than for the Apple support.

bye bye Apple !

Hello from Frankfurt (Germany),

I have the same problem. I bought a 4S at the Apple Store a week ago. As the display ws yellow, I exchanged the phone immediately. Two additional phones had a yellow display as well, so Apple gave me my money back.

The funny thing is that almost every phone on display in Frankfurt has the white display which looks perfect.

I would like to know how many people have been successful exchanging the phone, because I want to try again.

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I'm back from The Louvre's apple store.

They were delayed about 50 min, but no problem, I'm patient.

The Genius told me : Be careful,I can exceptionally do an exchange but there is no guarantee that you will get a better one, and you'll can't exchange an other time after.

I said ok, nothing to loose...

I was wrong ><

The guy forced my to sign the paper before opening the box, gave me the thing, and it was yellow, with a serial number begining with c39 like my first one...

He saw me face, and said "bye, have a good day", and left, leaving me alone with my new yellowish iphone...

By the way, the top of the front glass ( the screen) is not properly glued, I'm pretty sure dust can enter... It move a bit when pressing on it.

I spoke with the manager, and he said me this exchange was exceptional, they normally don't, and there was differents types of screen, and i have a yellow one, i've to live with it.

I'm not done, i'm gonna try an other applestore, it's a nice blueish iphone or my monney back...

I always wanted to have this beautiful screen like my friend has with his iphone 4, or with my old 3gs, and now they give you that.Ps: i've been lucky enough not to have dead pixels.

And please people dont think by lettin it dry it will be ok it will not

I think I know what is "wrong". If compared my new 4S to my old 4 under an angle with a light bulb reflecting on the screen. The screen was switched off.

I can see a green tint on the screen and I think a different coating is used. I also think different coatings are used in the production process. It looks like a different "warmer" color temperature.

It is not a problem because the human eye will get used to the color of the screen. I also think people are overreacting and behaving like parrots on this subject.

"So you gave it a whole 24 hours and conclude it will never go away? Quite the scientist. "

Absolutely right! If you wait 18 months and upgrade, it will go away for sure! 😝

Lots of people recommend setting the phone on highest brightness for this, but in reality, it's when the phone is on low brightness, the levels we generally use, that the yellow cast comes into play and ruins the reading experience. I have an iPhone 4 that looks OK in sunshine, daylight, with high brightness-- it's even whitish whereas the other i-devices look bluish.

But reduce the brightness level and read in the early morning or light, and the yellow is there, distracting as ever! So, I say, make your test at low levels of brightness, not high.

This whole glue drying this is load of BS. All those people who claim that it went away after few weeks, go compare it with normal iphones and u will still see the tint. Espeically when you tilt your phone to the right it will REALLY go yellow unlike the ones with normal screen like my iphone 4. Tilt it with dark wallpaper and it gets ridiculously yellow. Dont believe it when apple employees tell you that its the glue needing to dry because when I had my 3gs with the problem it never went away (I never believed them but i got tired of exchanging it and just kept it yellow). And plus it just doesnt make sense that the glue needs to 'dry'. It should have been dry before it was shipped out to retails.

I've heard that there are different screen manufacturers and apple is trying to produce iphone 4s' as fast as they can due to high demand. Therefore maybe apple is hiring cheap screen manufacturers to produce them quick. It seems that most of the first batch that went out during its release week have crisp blue screen but not the ones sold later on. Because I've initially bought my 4s at rogers (Canadian carrier) and it was perfect, But I returned it because it extended my contract by 3 years. Then I bought it right out at the apple store a week after and it had the yellow tint.

Some rumors suggest that its meant to be yellow, but it just doesnt make sense that there are two different types of screens. Its not supposed to have this 'warm' effect and its a total bs. IF in any case it was supposed to have this tint, then it should indicate that the model you are buying has either yellow or blue tint.

Again, its not the glue, its not supposed to be yellow and whatever apple employees tell you to believe that it is going to fade away, (like the idiot that I've talked to) dont believe it. I've seen few display models at the apple store with yellow tint and if it really was glue problem then the tint should have faded away already.
