iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

I have a black 4S (not that the colour actually matters, they all have the same problem) and yes, it has the same problem. My friend has the white one and it has the same problem too.

If Apple has moved to a cheaper and crappier screen supplier then I will move away from apple, simple. I expect the best for the amount I'm paying for it and I am certainly not impressed. Returning it tomorrow.

After my third iPhone 4S's (first two at Birmingham's Bull Ring Centre and the most recent one from Regent Street). I finally got a refund after all had yellow tints of varying degree. Someone at the Regent Street store admitted quite a few customers were'nt happy with the discrepancies and they'd had a few refunds.

Whilst I was waiting for my turn to see the Genius bar representative (before I could get my refund) I compared my screen to those on display and yes most of them (barring one or two) were whiter in tint.

Unfortunately the refund wasnt easy as the representative at the Bull Ring Store on my second phone had put my refund onto an Apple Gift Card for some reason. I didnt really want to use a Gift Card in lieu of actualy money. So they had to do a bank transfer which took forever to complete.

Hopefully all done now. I was on the fence about getting an iPhone 4S but now will definitely wait until the iPhone 5. First time Ive been disappointed with an Apple product since I first bought a Mac Classic. Hopefully not a sign of things to come....

I have a couple of iPhone 4 and they display three variations in colors-- the cream color (which is a better description than "yellow), the bluish-white, and then a whitish-blue.

It is amazing, though, how the colors changed depending on lighting conditions and which are displayed side by side. The quality of the whites varies with brightness setting and lighting conditions.

For example, the cream-colored one late this afternoon was displaying wonderfully white in a sunlight room, whereas the others looked painfully bluish! It was a shock as I generally prefer the whitish-blue. After a while, with one of the bluish next to the cream-colored one, the cream looked, well, creamier and not as good.

Under incandescdent lighting this evening, as well, the creamy one looks markedly creamy.

The visual color contrast effects continue as, if you spend time with one or the other, it will exaggerate the colors of the other (making them look creamier or oddly blusih).

I began this quite critical of the creamy one, but am now wondering about the bluish one.

Hope that the two months fix mentioned is a true one--and that it's a software fix for all us with the creamy or the bluish ones!

I'd like to hear about it soon aswell. Bought thee Black 4S 32GB on launch day. Ya know I never really noticed/looked for yellow tint. I had loose home button tho... Replaced it - ended up w/ 'Yellow Hue phone' as my friend & I call it. Lol..

I was 4 days out of my 30 day return policy, I wanted a refund & turn around to buy the White model. I don't have any answers but the ratio Black to White, more often than not Black (model) will display yellow tint.

SO... 3rd phone in a month. Not what I wanted too see, but I want more on this issue.

I'm not certain if you're aware, but the colour on the MB screen is totally adjustable through the settings. The ***** tea colour of the iPhone 4S cannot be altered by the user. Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know but you don't mention any colour profile in your post, so I assume perhaps not.

I can adjust my MBP to look yellower than my iPhone (just) but I don't, because it looks over warm and tinted.

FYI: Prior to posting the picture, I did have all of my variables set to default (besides the fact I am comparing the color tempt of my 4S to my MBP and MB), here's my set up

All were set at Factory default setting in terms of Color (meaning, yes, I know about the Calibration Setting) and that was left untouched. And I know for the 4S, I had no option to do so. If we did, this thread wouldn't even be exist.

All were set at 100% brightness.

AND since I didn't want to drive myself to an APPLE store to compare the different screen tints, I figured I could do the same at home, to see if my warm hue is really that bad.

Like I've said before, I've never really noticed the yellow tinge on my old MB until I placed my 4S next to it. And when I did, I noticed a huge contrast in color.

Did I try to adjust the color of my MB? Yes, but that was after I had posted up my picture. And you know what No matter what I did, the yellow tint on my old MB remain just as yellow. Having my 4S b/w the two made it looked like a perfect color tone (IMO), even though it was warmer compared to my friends' 4S. Now, I am not sure if my MB's sudden yellow screen is the result of infrequent use since I've gotten my MBP, but the yellow did start to fade a bit after I had it on for a few hours.

I am not a computer pro, so I don't know if that's even possible, but maybe my eyes were getting accustomed to the color. But when compared side-by-side, with all three and my 3G, the 4S did show more of a "true" white.

Reason why I posted my picture up was because it's a reference in color. People post that they have a yellow tint to their phone, but really did not share the degree of yellow hue. And even urine color comes in different hues of yellow. And the color tinge on my MB shows a urine color resembling of someone who is extremely dehydrated.

I am trying to help some people out who are obvious very OCD about this issue, and are making themselves see various degrees of yellow when it's not even a major problem. And if it's that bad, then return and wait for the next one to come out.

Honestly, to ALL of us who can afford an iPhone 4S at this time, then we are much better off than many others out there. Consider yourself lucky that you have the money to spend on a "luxury" item.

Nov 22, 2011 1:44 AM in response to Smileyiiz

I am sorry mate but I just cannot agree with you on your view about "being lucky to have this luxury item". The exact reason why I am willing to pay large amount of money for an item is the quality. I would never buy an apple product paying quite a lot more than for similar items from other brands if it was just lower quality.

Having used iPhone 4 before, the difference is significant and anyone can notice it. If you didn't have a 4 before, then you may be pleased with the improved screen quality in comparison to any iPhone 3 or 3G. But changing from 4, there is definitely a drop in quality. In a new model I'd at least expect keeping the same quality as before if not even improving it.

And it's not only the white being too warm but also the black is not true black from different viewing angles any more. Looking at the screen directly is ok, however from the left the black is greenish, looking at it from the right it's got purple shade. My iPhone 4 was perfect from any angle and slightly sharper too. I see no reason to accept lower quality on an improved product at all.

i totally agree with you. its stupid to say we should just accept it. why should we have to when we paid for something that was suppose to be perfect quality. my friends who came from the 3gs all love the 4s screen but they dont know any better. i dont even mind the warmer tint but the huge problem is the lack of contrast and clarity. the display looks smudged and washed out which is not good. there was definitely some ****** with the screen quality. on my third 4s but im keeping it because the camera actually autofocus like it should and the display isnt ***** yellow like the first two.

Yeah! BOTH iPhone 4Ss I have had, both have a Serial Number that begin in C39. Both have been black 32GB, wonder if that matters. Wonder if other models have the C39. Others having this issues... what does your S/N begin in? I wonder if I was to call Apple to request a replacement, if I can request an iPhone that doesn't have the C39 S/N?
