iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

Yet ANOTHER twist to the tale ... went back to the 3 store, just to double check, and it turns out that the white model is a 4 and not a 4S. I tell you what, I noticed this in an Apple store today as well and it comes down to the 4 really does have a better screen (white balance and sharpness).

Just looked at all the white 4Ss in the Apple store and they are basically the same/similar to mine and they have completely different serial numbers so that rules out different batches & all that.

I think I may just keep my phone now and hope that Apple addresses this tint issue with the 4S screen and address it in a future software/firmware update ... can they do that with screen tints on the iPhone?

Anyway ... what a drama, eh!

Well apple customer care called me back tonight and said that she was going to look more into this problem and get back to me in a couple days.

fingers crossed that she comes back with some good news for us with these ugly screens.

I think if you are having this problem and not getting anyware with replacements then try calling apple care and ask for customer relations.

they seem to be taking me more serious.

Sorry for my spelling but you get the idea.

I just had my iPhone4S replaced at the AppleStore because of faulty mic/reciever operation that's plaguing other users. By the looks of it, its affecting some of you here.

Upon return from the store, I've noticed a yellow tint to my screen that as much as I can remember wasnt there with my previous phone. Perhaps its because I saw about it elsewhere in these forums, but its been bugging me since I've changed to the new phone.

Though I cant prove it, since i don't have my old 4S, I swear the colors are different.

Compared with my previous iPhone 4, which I still have in possestion, the screen is noticably yellow (warm).

As I work in advertising, and deal with a great amount of photography, it is a problem.

Hopefully, Apple will address the color issue in an upcoming software update.

I'm going to visit the Apple Store in a day or two to compare mine with what's on display. If there is a significant difference, I'm going to ask for swap.

I was umming and ahhhing last night at the Apple store as to whether or not to "just keep" my white iPhone 4S but in the last hour (literally!) I decided to return it for refund.

One of the staff there had a white 4S and his screen was good, and even though the white ones on display looked blue, they were nowhere near as blue as my one was.

I knew that this screen thing would bother me during the whole time that I owned the phone (which I intend to be a while for £700!) so I had to let it go.

I will buy another one today to see if I get a good one.

Also, with regards to updates to address the screen tint, I was told that this is not possible? Apparently it has something to do with "trapped gasses" during the manufacturing process and therefore can not be ammended?

If you are checking display models in store be sure that you are checking 4Ss and not the old 4s - which I did by mistake a couple of times. I can tell you now, the 4 display was/is much better than the 4S.

I'm definitely going for white, though ... looks so much better next to the black.

Wish me luck, as I do you all!

To all who have not gone through previous posts including my posts:

I suggest reading at least 3-4 pages of posts to save yourselves time and avoid re-posting the same questions again and again.

To sum up:

- It does not matter what colour, size or serial number 4S you buy, you are likely to have the yellow tint issue on most of the items released a week after the first launch date i.e. during the last 4-5 weeks.

- It does not even matter what i device you buy, you are likely to have the same issue if you have bought your product during the last month. The new iPad2 models have the same yellow screen and iPhone 4 (NOT S!) has the same yellow screen issue.

- It is now very likely that a new manufacturer is producing these bad quality screens for most i devices.

The only thing we can do is wait and perhaps keep replacing our devices until the right screens are being shipped from the right manufacturer. I am confident Apple has already started addressing the issue and new items are being manufactured as we speak.

Thanks for reading this...

Hi, I don't know how to post to this forum, I am new here. I only see how to reply. I have to tell you what happened to me. I got my 4s the day it came out, 3 of us did, all black models. Screen was vibrant normal and no yellow at all. My phone was dropping calls like crazy and AT&T had me replace the sim, that didn't help, so I went to apple and they gave me a new one. It was so yellow, and the battery drained from 100% to 30% in hours, my first one the battery was great. Went back and they changed it again, and this screen was even worse. I called Apple and I stated this is my 3rd phone and my dis pleasure. My screen looks bad. Also with the yellow screen, the glass is not as smooth, so I do think its a different manufacturer. Had I known this I would have dealt with the dropped calls. They are sending me a new one, and I made it clear the screen better not be yellow. So we shall see. The stickiness to the glass bothers me even more then the screen does, and all the ones with the yellow tint, do not have a smooth feel to the screen as compared to my original one and the other 2 iphone 4's in the house. It is unacceptable to have a yellow screen and thats what you need to tell them. You don't pay all this money and have to waste time and effort returning phones, they should all be within the same guidelines. I could see slightly off but the difference between my last 2 was drastic. I mean very drastic. That is not acceptable to me. I didn't pay for that and thats not what I am going to settle for. I don't know who to write to in order to complain but I m going to let it be known. Not to mention my phone was a month old and the new ones they gave me both had issues. They replaced a brand new phone with 2 phones that had issues. Sorry to say, dont settle for the yellow screen, I dont buy the glue thing they are saying because as I said the touch also feels different and the touch is more sensitive on the vibrant screen and much smoother. The reason I notice things like that is because my hands hurt to text on the 2 new ones but didn't hurt on the original one because that was smoother and more sensitive. I went from a 3gs and my 3gs has a way better screen as far as no yellowish. How can they even be able to do that? The yellow screen even hurts my eyes. Totally un acceptable. I was told from an apple representative if the yellow does not clear up, people should call and let them know, because it is not supposed to be yellow.

Let me add to this, I just bought a MacBook Air, the screen is yellow same as the iPhone 4S i bought several weeks ago. Went back to the Apple Store in Miami, they opened 3 brand new MacBook Airs and they were all the same yellow tint color (though none of the ones they had on display, those were all crisp white.) At some point I gave up and told them it was a lost cause and clearly all the stock they had was defective. We got into this discussion about color preference and the genius suggested some users may actually prefer their screen in yellow, of course no one ever seen this problem before.

Apple seems unconcerned about passing out defective products and burdening users with repeated visits to stores, shipping, downtime, all to replace equipment which Apple already knows is defective.

Add me to the list of people with iPhone 4S's with yellow tint. My 64GB white 4S has it (and other issues) while my GF's 32GB white 4S does not have a yellow tinted screen. Both bought the day after launch from the same store. Her SN# starts with a D while mine starts with a C.

Thing is though, if you hold the phone and tilt its' top towards you so you're lookign down the screen, and rotate it as if there's a pencil stuck through the phone that it's rotating on, when at 11 'o clock (rotate it counter-clockwise) the screen is perfectly beautifuly white, but at noon-ish it's obvisouly yellow-tinted.

My original serial number starts with a D, perfect screen. My boyfriends starts with a C, perfect screen. So I do not think thats going to matter, my serial number now starts with a C and the screen is so yellow!! Not only yellow but it doesn't brighten up nicely either. I spoke to the apple representative thats sending out my new one and she said if this happens again to let her know right away as they should all be vibrant and not yellow. Mine also has a greenish tint to it on certain pages I go to. I would go to apple feedback and submit concerns until someone listens. People are returning phones because of this, its all over the internet. I could see some slight variations being normal, but nothing drastic. I don't prefer yellow because it gives me a headache after a while. I cannot see how that can possibly be normal. I do know we had 3 3gs in my household and they all had different color screens to, but nothing as drastic as this. As for settling for a dark yellow tint on my expensive phone, I will not. Especially since I already had one (my first one) that was perfect.

Add me to the list of having a ***** yellow screen tint. Got my unlocked white iPhone 4S 32 GB 5 days ago, and the yellow tint really bothers me, and I have already tried to believe it's the glue and hoped it will get better; but no, it's defintely not the glue, it's the screen itselt producing the yellow tint; personally I don't mind the temperature being bit warm, but it's not just a yellow tint, the contrast is also weak comparing to my lauch day iPhone 4. After reading what other people went through with the swaps, I don't want to do the same going through the hassle of revisting Apple Store everyday in a week and still just end up getting a same ***** yellow and low contrast screen. Mine is on its way going back to the apple online store for a full refund. I am going to give it another chance by ordering another set, if it is going to be a same ***** yellow screen, I have to say goodbye to Apple iPhone, and it has been a fun ride unitl you chose to ignore manufacturing defects and flood your inventory with bad screens.

I strongly encourage anyone who can't stand the tinted screens to speak up and act, tell them exactly why you are exchanging or returning the phone, just let them know there is a problem with the screen; and hopefully it going to make a change so good screens are no longer the minority.

my unlocked iphone4s has the yellow tint also , i went to apple store and i compared 3 black pieces and i got 3 differentt colors , only the white looks normal and when i told the technician in the store about this he looked surprised and he said "well different manufacturers may provide screens that may have some difference " and when i asked him about the "glue" he said there is NO glue under the glass , i returned my phone immediatly and got my mony back , im not gonna buy it untill they fix the problem.
