iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

Emileg, I am aware the screen tint is another problem, one if you read a few pages back I have as well. I agree that the yellow tint is "in the screen".

I was answering specifically the posters question about the Camera; particularly the point that the [iPhone 4] photos are richer in colour.

The output of the 4S camera however does have the washed out/yellow look of the screen in the photos and that may well be because both are calibrated against the same white balance. You can quite clearly see the yellow look in the 4S photo I posted above

I totally agree with you, this thread has nothing to do with the camera quality on any iPhones.

The main issue here is the yellow tinted screen on numerous 4S units. Adjusting the contrast, white balance, saturation, hue, etc on these gadgets would be fantastic if we could have it, but we don't.

The fact that a few 4S units have proper displays I believe we couldn't achieve much just by changing certain screen settings. We all have the same settings but some have the proper white looking screens while the other ones have the yellowish screen. The screens come from different manufacturers and one of them should be sacked and sued...

Hi again, I got my refund from the Carphone Warehouse and proceded to Apple Store as I reserved a 4s 16gb black lastnight. And I have to say this screen is perfect the same as ones on display. It also came with the latest 5.0.1 update already installed so must be a new batch? where my other two 4s's I had to update, not sure if this is relevant? but now Im a happy lad!

So I just got off the phone with an apple tech support and he told me that "they have been having a lot of people complaining about this issues" so he also mention to me I have 2 options

1) send the phone in and they will try to fix/replace the screen to get the most of of the phone that it was intended to be (takes 3-5 business days) overnight shipping+24h(or less) to fix+ overnight shipping

2) then send u a phone to use with a shipping box to send ur phone out to fix but cost 29$ pulse need to have credit card to put a hold on it for the phone they send u

I'm actually going to the Apple store in about 1 hour here for an exchange as well. I decided to wait a few months before going in for an exchange so that Apple can go through it's initial iPhone 4S batches, hopefully I get a decent one tonight! Wish me luck!

I can certainly see a difference between the screens (right one being yellower than the left, particularly noticeable on the navigaton bar. However I agree with Surnova, take another photo at full brightness as that should better show the issue.

Aside, thats two Apple support peeps now admiting there is a known issue. When they said they are aware of the issue, do you think the meant from a "its glue" perspective, or from a (rather large, by the sounds of it) batch of 4S getting a poorer screen?

So I just phoned AppleCare too, the nice German lady also said that it was a known defect/issue (both words used at different times) and should "of course" be exchanged. She wanted to make an appointment there for me to visit the GeniusBar in Hamburg but I need to work out a time thats best for visiting. Probably Thur/Fri, fingers crossed the replacement will be okay and not have any other defects.

I feel for you, I had that last year when I had a problem with the 4's Camera. I had two choices, either send it back and get a repair/replacement in a week or so's time OR take out AppleCare and then I could get an Advance Replacement, were they send the new one out with an extra empty box. You put your old phone in the other box (I believe it was white) and send it back to Apple via UPS. I admit I opted for the AppleCare, I didn't want to have to wait a week.

Yikes, I didn't realise you couldn't even get Applecare for it.

It might be best to leave it a little to see how others fare with replacements (not that that really means anything, just because one of us gets a good screen doesn't mean we wall will) first and if the consensus is that their okay then maybe do it.

Difficult I know, particularly with Xmas looming and possibly wanting to use the camera on the phone.
