iPhone 4S screen tint

I have bought a new iphone 4s (black) the color temperature is not as good as my iphone 4 (black). My iphone 4s has this yellowish tone when compared side by side with my iphone 4. I am so depressed with this irregularity. I got no time to visit thier service center, I love to hear what solution they could offer to solve this problem.

Yeah well good luck with that, you come tell us when Apple officially says this is an issue and they actually do something about it. Till then I'll go and enjoy my 4S the way it was meant to be from the start. Good luck waiting for Apple.

I have this yellowish tone problem too in my black iphone 4s. I bought this one less than a month ago. I compared it side by side with my iphone 4 which i still have in hand and the irregularity is very obvious. My iphone 4 black is much better than my iphone 4s black in color temperature and contrast. I have spoken with the dealer an hour ago and adviced me to have it checked at thier service center. I will visit them tommorow and have you guys informed of the outcome. I hope Apple can air thier official statement on this matter.

The solution is to NOT "JB" your device, rather it's the only method of fixing the problem yourself. Its sad that its come to having to jb to improve the screen quality but the only other options are to complain about it to Apple until you get a phone with a decent screen or return it. The yellow tint of the screen is unacceptable. It annoys me greatly that Apple treats their customers this way, in that they won't do anything in the QA of these phones probably because it cost money to fix the problem. I, for one, will steer clear of iPhones until they get their act together.

I use my 4s constantly, if you just use the phone you will quickly get used to the cooler colors. The screen may be different, but it does not affect usability and photos are probably more accurate. If you get past the screen you will enjoy everything about the phone.

I bought 2 Factory Unlocked iPhone 4S just almost 2 month ago, 1 black 32GB and one white 16 GB for my wife. last night we compared the 2 new iphone 4S with our older iphone 4 for the yellow tinted screen issue.

surprisingly, both iphone 4S (Black and white) have yellow tinted screen problem.

On the black iphone's screen is far more tinted yellow than the white one. I do not want to JB my iphone and I can't go to ane service store since I'm currently living overseas!!

any solutions other than JB??

Just got the 4S today and am seeing the same yellow-ish drab tint, especially noticeable on white backgrounds. Placed next to my iPhone 4, it looks pretty bad. Really hoping it gets better over time. Has anyone actually seen it improve over time?

DQ serial number sounds like the new DNP. Is D the factory that has the bluish tint and C is the yellow tint. Apple I'm a fan since '86 please hold it together. Tim and Johnny I expect the best cause you've got the goods.

I can confirm this. I bought a Verzion Black 32GB 4GS last week, my first iPhone. Serial number begins with C. Looked fine to me.

Then today my father bought a Verizon Black 16GB 4GS. Serial number begins with D, and comparing them side to side is a HUGE difference. At the same brightness, the D serial number one looks perfect, while the white is very yellow on my C 32GB one. Could be a huge coincidence, though 🙂

So I ended up going to the Apple Store this past Saturday to see if they can replace my 8GB iPhone 4. They told me that since they have different manufacturers making screens, the temperature of each iPhone will be different. They still let me get a replacement, but only that one time. Turns out that my replacement is so much better compared to my old one. The whites actually look like white, but the screen still warm, so that's a huge plus. Comparing it to my sister's phone, her whites look whiter, but my screen is much more brighter and the colors look definitely better because of the warm tint. I'm just glad it doesn't look way too yellow.

Bit of an update, went to my local Apple store, told them I had a yellow screen, they immediately exchanged it no questions asked. Got a serial number that begins with D (DQG) and it is MUCH better. Compared to my father's D 16GB mine is almost a perfect match; his is a little more red tint, mine is a little more yellow/grey-ish. VERY hard to tell them apart unless you have really good eyesight. So there are of course some slight variations, but not as bad as the full yellow hue in my old "C" model.

I bought a iphone 4 a few months ago. It is perfect. Then I bought a family member an iphone 4S on Friday. It was purchased from FIDO store at Metrotown in Vancouver. When I put the iPhone 4S side by side with a 3GS and the iPhone 4, the new iPhone 4s has a dull, washed out, yellow tinged screen like an old newspaper.

I went to Apple. They insisted it is merely a cosmetic issue. They said they'd change it one time and only one time. They gave me a new phone and it has the same problem. The part that I find hard to believe is that Apple would insist the problem is no big deal, that it is a matter of perception only and they'll really do nothing about it if the new phone also has a problem. It seems like there is a failure to acknowledge that the screen has a technical problem - not just cosmetic. Now, I think Apple should do something about it or there should be a class action lawsuit or complaints with the Canadian Consumer Association. It seems that there is a level of arrogance involved in how Apple is treating this issue. Based on this iPhone 4S screen issue, I'd strongly caution you not to buy a discoloured screen product and if you get it and they don't give you a corrected product we should all team up and file a complaint that neither Apple nor government regulators can ignore.

I don’t want to disappoint anyone but, Apple will not fix this issue. After some discussion with two people at the Apple Corporate Executive Relations, I was told that they had investigated the issue and came to a conclusion that there were no screen problems and are within specifications and acceptable. I mentioned to them to adapt a color temperature & contrast option in the settings which would resolve this issue. They said the idea would be passed to the software department. I had ordered and returned 7 yellowish /washed out iphone 4S and decided to quit. I’m not going to waste any more time on this, it’s not worth it. By the time I get an acceptable iphone 4S (If I were to get one) the iphone 5 would be released. Apple said there is no issue, so there will be no fix. Also, the yellowish tint does not disappear over time. There is no difference in the color (black or white) or serial numbers (C**** or D****), they most all have screen issues. There so such variations in the screens from the different manufactures that you may get a normal colored screen. I know it’s too early to guess, but I have this gut feeling that the iphone 5 will have similar issues. When the iphone 4 came out, there were no screen issues. I requested to get my iphone 4 replaced a month or so before the warranty was up because the home button wasn’t functioning correctly. The replacement iphone looked like someone took a yellow highlighter to it. I sent it back and got another with the same issue. I sent it back also and replaced my home button myself. So it seems like they are using a cheap LCD manufacturer and don’t care about product quality and their users. This yellowish tint / washed oust issue is so easy to see, all Apple employees need to arrange an opthamologist appointment. Shame on Apple. If you’re unhappy, email Tim Cook.

Help! I bought an iPhone 4s less than two months ago, it had normal/ slightly blue tinted screen. within 7 weeks the battery died and it had to be replaced. The replacement phone I was offered had a very yellow screen.I complained to Apple about the difference in screens and was advised that they would replace the phone this one time. Unfortunatley the second replacement screen is still quite yellow, less so than the first replacement but much warmer than my orginal phone.

I have no idea how to proceed with this as I am very unhappy with this phone, as I prefer the display on my orginal phone.

Can anbody here reccomend someone I can complain to and get a result? my original device did not even last 2 months, and the substitute devices are to my reasoning faulty items and not a like for like replacement.

So I finally found a solution in the face of blatantly misleading analysis carried out by Apple service people as well as the ones you mention at corporate HQ. I was an ardent fan of Apple and I would have sworn by Apple's integrity and and what I had believed was flawless design and manufacturing standards.

I am not going to waste my time on people who are in denial.

I gave up on the iPhone. Gave my iPhone 4 to my kid and I attempt to to sell the iPhone 4S with complete disclosure to anyone who buys that Apple has a manufacturing problem with the screen on the iPhone 4 and will do nothing about it.

Seriously, to claim that there is no issue is to throw mud in our eyes - and really that is what it is because the tint on the screen is what you'd see if you had just fallen face down in muddy water. The screen looks like a faded newspaper.

I went and bought the Samsung Galaxy - what a phone, and I think this is a better form factor and android has far more flexibility in app development. I a few minor software issues such as no task killer supplied but there are plenty of apps for that on their market.

So while I am keeping my Apple iPad - which has been a great product so far and my Macbook Pro - I have said bye bye to the iphone. When and if they improve the screen and come out with a different form factor, I will give it another look.

But, if anyone tells you there are no issues and faded, dull, yellowish screens are tolerable - trust me you will not like it. Go buy something else.

And I agree with ClaytonB that Apple will not fix this because this is a much bigger problem than the antenna issues which was covered up by giving away silicone cases.

As well, I agree that serial numbers don't matter. It is simply a manufacturing issue. Nothing to do with glue. By the time this thing makes it from China to here the glue would have long dried 🙂
