iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

If you're going to be rude here fanboy, don't post. Don't go telling people they need to get a grip because they're not willing to pay almost $1000 for a stupid yellowish-washed out iphone. FYI: Yellowish tint insn't the only screen issue which is leading people to return their iphones. I had two with light bleeding along with the yellowish tint, one with dust under the front glass, one with too high of a contrast (washed out) and another with uneven brightness. I had one iphone 4S that looked like someone took a yellow highlighter to it, unacceptable. I've quit trying and waiting for the next iphone to be released.

Received an unexpected phone call from Apple Corporate Executive Relations (Matthew) today. He called to provide me with an update. As previously informed, Apple engineers had done some tests on some of the iPhone 4Ss that were sent back by me and others and see no color issue with the screen. He indicated to me that he did read some of the posts here in this discussion forum and will send feedback to the engineering department, including the addition of temperature / contrast controls in the settings which would resolve this yellowish tint-washed out issue. I told him that if it can be done by using a jailbreak app “Color Profile”, it would be too easy for Apple to provide the option. I also told him that it appears Apple isn’t listening to us and appear as if they don’t really care. I’m still not doing to waste anymore time, money or energy on this. I’ll wait and see if they add the color options. And if so, I may purchase one then. He indicated to me that if you order online and return it within 30 days, there is no limit on the number of iphones that you order and return.

Hi all

I purchased a white verizon 4s 64gig on the 7th of Jan. This month..

I had a yellowish tinted screen next to my original iPhone 4 that did not have yellow tint.

Now in saying this I think the 4 is a little on the blue side buttttt, much easy on the eyes when compared side by side hands down!!.

Now last night went back to the store and swapped for a new one and guess what ..........PERFECT!!!!

Just like the 4 now and also this ...... I restored everything last night I had on the old yellow 4s.....

And my battery life is just great now I use a morphie juice pack plus and by noon I had about 2 bars if not 1, with this new one I had all 4(out of 4) bars by 11am and noon had 3, I thought it was using more than the 4 but figured it was the processor or something but this new one is just amazing..

Best of luck to you all

People are not dumb, even without telling them, people can see the quality difference? If the quality standard set by apple on the yellowish screen is within the standard, how come there are still Iphone 4s with a bright, crisp blue display coming out? How come apple is replacing the unit? It only means one thing, apple were not able to set the standard for all the manufacturers (specially on the display), apple should not have allowed to set 2 kind of display for one unit (4s), because this would lead to comparison and quality issues. All Iphone 4s unit should all be identical and consistent regardless of battery, display, functionality etc...Since we are now in the ISO set-up which I believe Apple is? This is just my point of view coming from a manufacturing background...

I'd just like to inform you guys that I don't think the yellow screen many of you are seeing is necessarily a hardware defect. It seems there are multiple manufactures for the screens on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. I have a 4 with a yellow screen and will say that I "modified" my phone just to get "color profiles". This app works wonders for the screen. Not only was I able to eliminate the yellow tint, but I also was able to significantly increase the contrast to the point it almost looks better then a "good screen". I have reason to believe that the real reason for the yellow tint is that the screen is not properly calibrated on phones with a yellow tint. If Apple were to add an option in the settings for us users with a yellow tint so we could change the tint, I think there would be no more problems with the screen and we would be able to adjust the screen to our liking.

You can Google it for more info and pictures. The ipad 2 had this issue when it was first released. It's the bleeding or escape of LCD bright lighting from the edge of the LCD screen. Good way to check for it is to have an all black photo displayed in a dark location and check for leaking light. Sometimes it so bad that you can see it on any background color. Hope this helps you. Cheers!!

Hi,

you would need to take a picture of your phone and someone's else that you thought was better than yours, for us to see.....

BUT in saying that I would think that lots of people have either (yellow tinted or blue tinted or whatever) and are very happy with them as long as they don't have

1. OCD [Obsessive-compulsive disorder] (like me and others)

2. Vision up close problems (usually starts to happen to people in the 40's) (like me and others) [blue is better on the eyes when reading with these small devices]

3. Hardware problem that I and apple thought I had with the 1st one.

I also had a couple other problems with mine one being on the phone, the phone app locked up on me, dropped my call and I had to end the phone app to get back into it, and it rebooted on me randomly also, when my 4 did none of this (well maybe not the random reboot but if it did I can't remember).

I called apple and between phone lock up, random reboot, yellow tinted, and a very soft home button they said for me to go back to the store and get it replaced as apple could not guaranty a new on if they sent me one so I called my best buy stores around me to find another one to swap it out for a new one.

Now the new phone for me

1. No more yellow tint when comparing side by side

2. Much easer on the eyes when reading

3. I had some type of batter draining issue with my yellow tinted screen (1st 4s) this new 4s battery is great, like the 4 was.

4. Home button fells better (but still not like the 4 but satisfactory)

5. For the phone and lock up problem time will tell if it happens it did take 9 days to show up on the first one that could have just been a glitch but I did reboot the device in the morning before it showed up so time will tell.

Best luck to all

I think every phone I have seen has a backlight bleeding at some degree.

I don't think I am gonna replace it for this small my phone has just because I have passed through 12 replaces and this one is the only one with perfectly even backlighting ( on white wallpaper) and doesn't have yellow tint at all. Also it doesn't have this terrible "interlaced lines" effect which drives me crazy usually.

So, to replace my phone just for this small bleeding only visible on 60-100% brightness in completely dark room and completely black wallpaper (neither of two conditions can be considered as normal use), would mean I am developing high level of OCD, and as soon as I run away of this (I have some OCD), plus all my nerves I throwed to find a good tinted and backlighted screen- I just prefer to leave the things this way.

Otherwise I do risk to involve myself into another cycle of pain and finally will end up with much worse device with more obvious problems.

I would like to send my iPhone 4S to Apple and ask for an official conclusion that the quality of the screen of my iPhone is fully identical to the quality of the iPhone 4 with 16 or 32 Gb. Unfortunately I have no contacts of the Apple office in Russia, otherwise I would do it immediately after the purchase.

All who saw the screen of my 4s, noted the pale colors, low contrast and a yellowish tint.

Is anyone else finding this problem in the new 8GB iPhone 4 models? I have been comparing my iPhone 4 8GB to iPhone 4's and iPhone 4S's and my screen always seems to appear way too warm. The colors don't appear washed out like some pictures that I've seen, but it's enough to notice from time to time. You can only tell if the brightness isn't that high, and it looks pretty normal when it's on full brightness.

Jan 29, 2012 7:22 AM in response to Snowglider

Honestly I did not notice a change until I put two phones together and I've been using a 4 and 4s for over a month. If you increase the brightness on the 4s by about 20% it does pretty much match the 4. It is certainly not big enough a problem to offset all of the advantages of the 4s. I like the idea of a software update that would allow more control over tone and contrast, so long as it has a reset to original specs button.

so the solution is jailbreak your device? then at the box iphone should stick "this screen is yellow so you have to jailbreak and get it blue and your warranty will not be voided", i dont need a jailbreak, im using almost everything, did apple say that the yellow tint fellower should betray them?.. the solution is not us.. the solution should come from apple..
