iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

I went to an Apple store last night because Siri wasn't working. I compared my phone to a display one and could see a difference. When my turn came up at the genius bar, I had him check out Siri and then I asked about the display and showed him. He agreed there was a difference. Then told me it could possibly be the glue and that also there will be slight differences in screens, because some were made by Samsung which also made the dual chip in the phone and other screens were made somewhere else. He told me he would give me a replacement I told him I wanted to compare and if the replacement wasn't better, I would keep my phone. I compared the replacement and the colors were paler on it. My phone looked way better next to it. I kept my phone.

It is not a glue problem, i bought an iphone 4 like 6 months ago and it was perfect then i had to exchange it because the home button wasnt working anyways i had a replacement and i started noticing that the screen was not the same, it has the yellow tint on it so i exchanged it again, they gave me a brand new one which was yellow still but not as bad as the previous one but i decided to return it for good and wait for a new version (4s) this one is not as bad but still has a lite yelllow tint on it, i went to an apple store yesterday and there was only one display that had the real colors of an iphone all of the rest were yellow as well and i was able to show them and asked them what was going on, they act like is nothing but dont give you a real explanation, i forgot to mention my dads iphone 4 is the worse i've ever seen (very, very yellow tint), its like 4 months old so dont you think it would of dried out by now, think about it!!!

The fact is, there has always been two different displays in iPhones. Same exact issue with the 3 to 3 GS and the 4S. Oddly I've never heard of the issue with itouch's. You'll get the blue (one in a million) or the yellow screen, nothing you can do about it. I replaced my 4 a few times and gave up, it drove me crazy at first but you just have to get used to it. Now if only a portion of the screen is yellow, that's an obvious defect. That's why people should avoid upgrading until the 5, with a whole new display hopefully they will resolve this issue. Check the old threads regarding yellow screens, I'm sure you'll find 30+ page discussions about it.

UPDATE:

After having no luck with the Geniuses, if finally called AppleCare last Friday afternoon. I explained to them the the issue with the yellow screen and that the Geniuses were no help. The guy on the phone was very cool and he seemed to be concerned about me being unhappy.

He offered to swap my 4s out at no cost.

Monday morning I had a replacement iPhone 4s delivered at my workplace. WOW!!

The replacement iPhone does not have the yellow screen issue. The screen looks great. The colors match very closely to my my iMac display. It's slightly warm, not blue, and definitely not yellow!

One little thing I noticed on the replacement 4s: The little gray square on the Home Button seems to be a little crooked or slightly rotated. It is noticeable by people who pay close attention to detail (like me) but it's no big deal. I'm not going to complain about that.

FYI: The serial number of the yellow screen 4s starts with C35. The replacement one starts with C38.

I totally agree about the warmer screen. Video and films (comparing Hitchcock's Vertigo on my older 3GS and my 4S) look better with the warmer screen; contrast is better, overall better. I like it! My serial number starts with C39. Perhaps earlier serial numbers were more "yellow." This screen is definitely warmer than my 3GS but VERY pleasing with far better color.

For me, my 4S's screen color hasn't been an issue but what is interesting is that where it yesterday seemed to resemble kevwkev's photo of his 4S, this afternoon, much less so. Although it doesn't have what I would call the exaggerated blueness of my 3GS on the brightness setting's menu, I can no longer clasify it as yellow. It has the same color temperature of my iMac which is slightly warmer than my MBP. There must be something to what i have read because it did resemble kevwkev's screen photo yesterday.

OK, I see it. Comparing my photos in my 3GS to my 4S, the pics are too yellow. The 3GS, they're too blue-pink but somewhat better. It is interesting that the 4 series iPhones can be viewed from the side. The 3GS had poor viewing off angle.

However, unlike my Late 2009 iMac which had quite a few returns due to blotchy yellow "stains" in the screen, I'm not going to go bonkers over this. It's a cool device and in 23 months, it'll be put away when i get the next iPhone.
