iMessage sent from email address rather than phone number...

I'm having similar problems with my iMessage update under iOS 5. When I send text messages to other iPhone users, it appears as iMessage and from my email address rather than my phone number. I went into Settings > Messages > Receive At, but there's no option to add my phone number. It keeps showing my Apple Account, which I registered under for iMessage and iCloud with my email address. It only allows me to add another email address. From what I can tell, non-iPhone users are still receiving my text messages from my number like regular. If I turn iMessage OFF, I'm sending regular text messages to all users. Anyone have a fix yet? I'm wondering if this was an Apple goof that won't be resolved until the next iPhone update.

Wait...I think I figured it out. When you click Receive At, click Apple ID and Sign Out. Once you've signed out, the Receive At turns to "Use your Apple ID for iMessage." I think that fixes things!

In my humble opinion Apple goes too far with this thing. I updated to OS6 and suddenly my device started to use iMessage without any warning. Results: I lost a message since the receiving party was travelling with no data. Then I lost a customer who did not want to answer to my SMS because he did not see who was sending it. I find really humiliating if my phone vendor starts to fiddle with my device.... Apple is good but not the center of the world.
Now the problem solved, I found where to switch this stupid iMessage off.

I recently purchased the iPhone 3GS, and I'm having the biggest problem with the iMessage. I have the latest version of software, however, when I go to activate the iMessage, it's not giving me the option of my phone number. I logged out of my apple id & back in, and it asked where I wanted to send/recieve messages from, i unchecked the email option and selected my phone number, however, it says it's waiting for activation... HELP!

Is the "Send as SMS" option ON? If not turn it ON and turn off iMessage. Force Restart your iPhone. (Hold down home and power button at the same time and keep holding until Apple logo appears.

When its restart try to turn ON iMessage and wait a minute to see "Verified".

If this is not work call your carrier.

iMessage Activation needs a cellular network to send an SMS to iMessage centre.

Maybe something block this SMS.

Sorry for my English

Try with a diffrenet sim, if it gets activated then your phone setting is ok, otherwise

1. restart iphone, switch off and then on

2. sceck timezone, if not ok correct it

3. reset network setting under settings>general>reset

4. toggle imessage on (ensure you hv sufficient balance in your ac for atleast a international shotcode SMS that iMessage sent for activation

5. if problem is not solved contact your carrier and ask them to unblock the UK number starting with 0044 that is being sent out from your phone for activation of iMessage..

all the best,

Hey everyone im a new person to this but whoever is having this problem i just solved it. For some i believe it will work , if not try something else. Best of luck!

1. Turn on iMessage and leave it upto 24 hours on. Mine was 2hrs

2. After that time a caller id option should show, click it and only chppse your number. Log out of your apple id and it should work! :)

Good luck

Cheers

Hi everyone, I'm expirencing similar problems, My Imessage went out earlier today and i called apple tech support and the gentleman said they were doing updates and it should be back soon. It came back, but my IMessages are only sending through my email. Now, when i go into my settings>Messages>iMessage> the list shows up as the following:

iMessage

Send Read Receipts

Send as SMS

Send & Receive

When i click Send and Receive, My email shows up, bolded with a check mark, and my phone number also shows up, but is is faded, and i can not click on it.

I have tried logging out of my Apple ID, to see if my number would bold itself and i would be able to use it, and no such luck. if i unregister my email it says "waiting for activation" and then finally says "activation unsuccessful." i've tried turning my phone off, making sure my phone number is listed under "mobile numbers" through my Apple ID, and i've tried logging out of my Apple ID.

Can anyone help me solve this problem?! it is driving me insane!

I can either send an iMessage through my email, or just send a regular SMS through my number.

Anyone have any idea?!

SOLUTION - Worked perfectly for me.

The problem with all of this is that - If you are logged into your Apple ID account on your iPhone, and if your Apple ID account is an email (which it will be), then your email will be used for 'Receive At'. However, if you log out of your Apple ID account, then only your mobile number will be used at 'Receive At'.

Follow these easy steps:

1. Go to 'Settings'>'Messages'>Make sure iMessage is 'ON'

2. Scroll down to 'Receive At - 2 Addresses'>Click on 'Receive At 2 Addresses'. You will see your mobile number greyed out (cannot be clicked), and your Apple ID email address (can be clicked).

3. This means iMessage is using your Apple ID email address and not your mobile number.

4. You need your mobile number to be selected, but it can't because it's greyed out = THE PROBLEM.

5. THE SOLUTION - Click 'Apple ID' at the top (it has your email address next to it). iMessage account screen pops up. Click 'Sign Out'

6. Click back on 'Messages' button. Now you will see only your mobile number in the 'Receive At' field.

7. Test by sending someone a message with iMessage ON. People will now get your messages with your name and mobile number stated instead of your email address.

Cheers

Actually, I tested this again with my friend who has iMessage and it does work - my texts are being sent and received as iMessage with just my phone number caller ID, even though I signed out of my Apple ID for iMessages. I found a link where a girl did same thing, and she shows screen shots of her settings. Anyway, it is working for me, afterall !

Ok, here is the REAL answer to this problem. I finally gave in and took my iPhone 5 into a Genius at his Bar....the result was this. He said, "Oh yes, I see you are with Amaysim, ARE YOU ON AN UNLIMITED PRE-PAID PLAN WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE INTERNATIONAL TEXTS? They have a different system and you need to contact them to register for iMessage." I called them and they said, yes, this requires an international text which needs to be sent on your behalf to activate your iMessage," They did this immediately, I turned iMessage off then on again and voila, my phone number appears now and not my email address. Other carriers will have the same system so try it......

I Message and Kids- My daughter has an Ipod Touch on which I set up I message. To set up the I Message I used my Apple Account with my personal email address but not my cell phone (b/c I'd like to keep an eye on the messages). Now all messages she sends show up on my work phone on which I have my work email and the email I used to set up I Message. I was hoping that her messages would show up only on my personal i phone on which my personal email is also loaded. Is there a way to stop the I Messages from showing up on my work phone other than to delete my personal email from my work iphone? Thanks.
