Thank you so much for a solution until/if apple brings back thumbnail view. I find the thumbnail view much better for looking at pages to do with one project.

I'm ok with all the positive/negative feedback about everyone's preference. I would like to go back to thumbnails. If Apple has decided to use tabs, fine. But can someone tell me what the difference is in Preferences:safari: "Open news tabs in background" feature does? I've tried it both ways (and even restarted my iPad) and there is no viewing difference? Any friendly feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

It means that your iPad will not jump to and focus attention to the new tab, but maintain focus on the current tab.

I agree. Apple took a BIG step backwards with these ugly tabs. Reducing screen size is the pits. I am now using Terra browser so I can use the full screen but it requires an extra step every time I want to use the back arrow.

Smaller screens and less battery life is an advancement? I now have an over priced kindle!

I HATE the new Safari tab bar! Like so many others I want the old one back. The new one is complicated to use especially when you go from your mail to safari and get untitled bar instead of the website window. I like keeping my website windows open. I also go back and forth a lot between web site windows. This is a pain in the *** with the new tab bar. Apple went backwards on this new feature. Give us our old website windows back!

Firefox allows you to kill tabs if you do not want them, through add-one.

The main issue here's that Apple should have give us a choice.

I came here when I tried the Safari of the iPad with iOS 5, because I just can't stand tabs.

One more thing, regarding the "background apps". You guys say that they do not eat resources? Then why is my free memory going down the more apps I have open, and it returns to normal when I kill them? They eat memory all right and that's easy to see, so they are not just "recent apps you used".

Extremely annoying! I rather open multiple pages and be able to see them all at once than opening and closing many tabs in a stacked mess. Can't stand this change.

I just "upgraded" to this safari tab crap, hate it!

I too am very unhappy with this tab change, it takes away from my iPad experience. It's not user friendly, it minimizes the screen view, nor is it as appealing, graphically as the previous thumbnail view. Please give us an option for either function.

Where did the tabs come from? Under settings > safari > general > it had 'search engine' 'autofill' 'OPEN LINKS'.

Now the settings have changed. I'd prefer the "Old School" method. How can I go back?
