iPhone 4S loses signal

TL;DR: iPhone loses signal completely with no apparent reason, rebooting helps, but 4 times in 8h is a bit too often.

Hey there,

I was very excited when I got the new iPhone 4S today. Unfortunately after 30min it didn't get any signal anymore. I live in a big city and have normally a very high signal strength. I let the iPhone search for the network provider a few times, but it didn't find anything (the iPad2 lying next to it had full signal strength).

Rebooting helped, but after another hour or so (and disrupting a call twice) it couldn't find any signal again. So I rebooted and there it was again. So all in all I had to reboot the phone about 4 times in 8 hours.

I couldn't find any similar problems in the forum so is this a unique problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? can I do anything against that?

Here are some additional infos:

Location: Frankfurt, Germany,

Network provider: T-Mobile

I have the same problem in Lebanon (MTC Touch Carrier); Ever since I accepted an update for the IOS5 software, I only have reception for a few seconds everytime I either turn off and on the phone or I take out the sim card and put it back in again...Otherwise, I can't call or sms

I tried removing the Sim Code, it didn't change anything.

[Note: the IOS5 update was to fix a bug with the battery life, siri and documents with iCloud]

If you have an iPhone 4S....DO NOT UPDATE TO IOS5. !!!

It's causing everyone around the world the same problem of loosing reception...Nobody has given any solution.....so we've concluded that there's a bug with the IOS5.0.1

Here's links to people from different countries with the same problem:

This link shows that on Dec 15th apple recognized the problem and created a fix for that. Its a new build for the same ios 5.0.1. If you try to update your phone will say there is no update available. You need to restore and update using itunes. I bought 2 phones in canada and had the same problem, this fix worked for me. My phone is 100% since Dec 17th when i applied the update!

Dear all,

(THIS CONCERNS MTC TOUCH CUSTOMERS IN LEBANON)

I've received an email with a solution to the problem; you have to update to the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406)!! It's been 1Hour and so far my iPHone 4S is working just fine. Please follow carefully the below instructions:

RUN A FULL BACK UP BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS

1. Download the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406) from the internet. (800MB)2. Connect your iPhone 4S to iTunes.
3. Once connected, two options will show: ‘restore’ and ‘check for update’.
4. Press down SHIFT and choose ‘check for update’. (if you click ‘check for update’ without pressing down SHIFT doesn’t work.)
5. Select the new firmware (9A406). Note that the file should be renamed ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw’ (instead of ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.zip’), i.e. changing the file extension from ZIP to IPSW. iTunes will now work alone and update your iPhone 4S.
A full back up is recommended before firmware upgrade.

Incredible, thank you LebanonDeek from whomever u received e-mail and solution for this problem is obviously from the Apple company or maybe not. Anyways, many thanks to person mentiond above. The not incredible part even I can freelysay very sad and bad reaction from Apple that didn't react in time and published immeditly the version with iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406) for me is something that I didn't expect...

Your solution for a serious and anoying problem:

RUN A FULL BACK UP BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS

1. Download the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406) from the internet. (800MB) 2.

Hi,

this is also to else others who didn't solved the problem yet.

I tought that I solved my problem yesterday and really everything was fine after my update of 9A406 firmware. In the morning when I woke up, of course I dunno when the signal was gone again but when I woke up I looked at my phone and it was no service or actualy it was sim error or something like that doesen't even matter. Anyways, it started again and again and whole day. I turned off the automatic search for network and select the carier that I use, worked well and then afte couple calls again, same ****.

I turned off the celular data which is general>network>celular data> off (anyone who is having problem with the a signal and network drop) will not be able to use e-mail account on his iPhone. So u basicly have two options: either u use phone on iPhone or use it as iPad, iPod and have e-mail account.

Anyhow this worked for me at least for now. I didn't have drop calls, bugs or anything, only once I had a really quciky network loss and it went away in a sec and signal was again five bars, now it's constant. I'm testing it, calling ppl, sending sms, using wireless and internet and etc. and everything is cool.

I'll give u some more info in time.

Good luck
