Sound issues using FaceTime on Mac!!

I was using FaceTime perfectly fine. And then out of no where, sound just stopped working. This happened before and then suddenly started working again. I can hear the other person just fine but they can't hear me. I've checked the 'video' option making sure internal speakers are selected. And then systems>preferences>sound, i made sure the input and output sound were not muted. I've restarted computer a few times too. Please help!!!

I realize that Apple has not made any effort to communicate with the folks here, I actually was one of the very early commentors who posted my problem, which remains. But in all due respect, I thought this WAS contacting Apple? Are you saying, all this forum is good for is us complaining to each other. Oh man! Great! How do you suggest we contact Apple? Thanks!! 🙂

I worked with an Apple rep, Wayne, and he told me know one from Apple ever monitors this "Apple" support forum. So yes, we are just talking and lamenting amongst ourselves. :-). I spent almost two hours on the phone with Wayne trying to resolve the sound issue in FaceTime ....I still occasionally have the problem..nothin resolved. My mic always shows a line through it ...when it works and when it does not

Oh great! I have been waiting for two months, (more is you add the time before my post here) to get this problem resolved. It works on some days, and suddenly sound will stop? I was in hopes that Apple would see all the others and find a way to fix this? Thanks for the info Kathi. I really don't want to sit on the phone for two hours with a tech. I wonder if there is another way for us to contact and complain to Apple, so they actually hear us? Thanks! 🙂

Correct, Apple normally does not read anything in these discussions. In fact they sometimes (maybe a lot of the time) regard these posts as just rants with no viable foundation of any real problems.

However, I am in contact with a senior tech, who is in contact with the engineers, and I know for a fact that he has looked at this thread because he did it while I was on the phone with him. He's been on vacation because of the holidays so I assume our communication will continue when he returns.

I would suggest, for those who asked how to contact Apple, call Apple tech support at 1-800-SOS-APPLE or 1-800-767-2775, and somehow get to a senior tech. You need to get past the person who answer the phone as they best suited for problem like, you forgot to plug your computer in. Once you have a senior tech, reference this thread, which is #3388112, or give the url of the thread, which is https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3388112.

It's time to "occupy" Apple about this issue. 🙂

As I said in an earlier post, my self, and lots of you said that the beta version worked great and didn't have this sound issue. So if we can all suggest to the senior tech that the engineers just re-release the beta version as an update to this current version, that would be the simplest, quickest way to solve the issue.

I guess we have to keep bugging Apple until they fix the problem. Must be a software issue.

My sound cuts out during a FaceTime chat with my folks - they are on a new iMac running Lion, and can hear me but I cannot hear them.

I can connect to them via an iPad, a MacBook running Lion, and an iMac running Lion. Sound problem occurs with all three devices at some point.

I'll be chatting with Apple support tomorrow morning at 8am, and will reference the thread.

Hope they fix this soon!

Just contacted Apple support to discuss this issue and the support person claimed that they have no documented cases in their database. This seems strange. Clearly this is a real problem based on the complaints listed on this thread, and apperently Apple is not on top of it. Anyone who is having this issue should really call into Apple Support, refuse to pay for the support and demand to speak with a senior advisor to discuss the desktop MacOS Facetime Audio drop issue - and insure that the problem is addressed quickly in the next Facetime application update.

I'm having all the same issues as all of you. I just got a refurbished 2010 MacBook Air from Apple for Christmas. I bought 99¢ FaceTime app soon after starting my new Air. Whenever I am FaceTiming, the microphone stops working soon after. The amount of time it takes to stop working differs. Sometimes it's 3 minutes, sometimes it's 30 minutes. It's really frustrating. I usually result to FaceTiming on my iPod Touch 4th generation with iOS5.

We have the same problem. I have a brand new (well, a few months old) MacBook Pro and whenever we use face time the sound gets dropped. We live far from family so would use it about once a week. Whether we are talking to someone on an iphone or an ipad, it doesn't matter, our sound gets dropped every single time. The only thing that brings it back is if we hang up, close facetime, restart it and call back. It used to happen at about 7 minutes into the conversation, but now it happens more quickly. I also used to think it happened if I moved the computer even the slightest bit during the call, but that turns out to have nothing to do with it. This is SO frustrating!!

Please, everyone on here, keep contacting Apple tech support at 800-767-2775 and talk to as high tier person as you can! It may also be helpful to reference this thread, which is #3388112. Don't be discouraged if the tech tells you, maybe this is the reason, or that is the reason, like "the cause is your internet connection", or "there's something wrong with your computer", etc. Obviously, based on all these different posts, with all these different scenarios, the only common thread is the FaceTime for Mac app itself. The more people we have calling in about this, the more chance it will get fixed.

Also, as someone else on here mentioned, although I don't know how much it will help, it probably won't hurt to submit the problem to http://www.apple.com/feedback.

Thanks!
