Sound issues using FaceTime on Mac!!

I was using FaceTime perfectly fine. And then out of no where, sound just stopped working. This happened before and then suddenly started working again. I can hear the other person just fine but they can't hear me. I've checked the 'video' option making sure internal speakers are selected. And then systems>preferences>sound, i made sure the input and output sound were not muted. I've restarted computer a few times too. Please help!!!

I too am having the same problem on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.8). I call someone with an iPhone with Facetime and the sound works on the iPhone-end for a little while than cuts out. I can hear them but they cannot hear me! Had no problem with the Beta version but now BIG issue with the $0.99 download version. Looks like this problem has been around for about two months. HEY APPLE, STOP READING YOUR ACCOLADES AND GET OFF YOUR DEAD BUTTS AND FIX IT!

On the line with Apple tech support and he says that it might be the servers are having issues (maybe from holiday traffic?), but from reading this thread it seems like this has been ongoing. I do know that Apple likes to put beta products out there without really telling people. Extremely frustrating try to FT with my kid and let him see his grandparents. Had to try skype and then FT, both are having issues.

Ah yes, of course. Apple is the only company with this backwards idea of what "beta" means. "Pay us lots of money for our beta stuff!"

They've created quite a clusterf*** between FaceTime & iChat too (oh, and then there's the MobileMe/iCloud/Apple ID's confusion, but that's another story).

Sound cuts out and frequent hang ups w/ FaceTime. I'd like to video conference with FaceTime, but that can't happen (someday soon, hopefully). Tried with iChat, but can't get all three ends to get video going (for some mysterious reason). FaceTime only works with wifi on iPhone, so if you're wifi reception is poor, you're screwed.

Same issue. My husband has a Late 2010 MacBook Air and when he tries to FaceTime me with it (to my iPad 2) the sound cuts out after a few minutes. I have a MacBook Pro 17" Unibody 2009 and have the same problem trying to call my friends with iPad 2s. I have to close and restart FaceTime to get my audio back on - very frustrating.

There must be a solution, surely Apple can not let this continue.

I have an iMac and it's exactly the same. Snow Leopard, latest Facetime. Talking for 10 minutes to others on iphone, then they can't hear me. Restarting Facetime doesn't fix the problem. They disconnecting and calling me, doesn't fix the problem. I calling them doesn't fix the problem. Disabling the microphone and reenabling it doesn't fix the problem. Switching to Line In and then back to Microphone doesn't fix the problem. Turning the mic volume up and down doesn't fix the problem. The only thing that fixes it is restarting the iMac. This is a software issue that has a bug; something else on the iMac likely to be intermittantly interfering with Facetime.

This may seem like a simple idea to try, and maybe people have, but I haven't seen anyone trying to reset PRAM to see if that makes a difference? It may well make no difference, but given nothing else seems to be working, it may be worth giving it a go. It is a friend having the issue with their machine, so I haven't been able to try it myself.
