Sound issues using FaceTime on Mac!!

I was using FaceTime perfectly fine. And then out of no where, sound just stopped working. This happened before and then suddenly started working again. I can hear the other person just fine but they can't hear me. I've checked the 'video' option making sure internal speakers are selected. And then systems>preferences>sound, i made sure the input and output sound were not muted. I've restarted computer a few times too. Please help!!!

I tried the suggested fix "adjusting input volume" fix and to no avail. The last two times I have used facetime, our talk time is even less than before? I set my input at @ 22 as suggested, and I think it was actually preforming better at the default. Not blaming anyone AT ALL, just saying this to explain what happened to me? I don't know what to think? I know when we switched over to skype on my pc laptop after the volume went blank on facetime on my macbook pro, the hp began one of those computer health scans, and caused skype to freeze up, so I reached over and tried facetime again, which was less than 10 minutes later, and it was working again. So, with two video programs and two laptops, two operating systems, I managed to visit with video style with my brother in California. LOL

After several trouble free calls the dreaded cutout struck again - my son calling from Australia couldn't hear me after about 10 minutes. I checked input and output volumes and they were the same as on previous calls where I've had no problem. Bittenapple 123 - you seemed to be getting somewhere with Apple but we've heard no more - presumably because they haven't come back to you?

is actually from the Mac side

the sound resets itself every 30 secs. if you go to system preference/sound/output and select the other option, ie from external to internal, or vice versa, then re-select your original setting, the sound comes back for 30 secs.

It doesn't seem that apple has any intention in fixing this problem

did anyone use skype instead? any better

Yes, Skype has been fine, I never have trouble with skype, it is just so easy to use facetime (unless sound drops out, of course). Skype on the other hand, depends upon both parties being signed on to skype, and most of the time I am not. But, if and when our sound drops, we immediately resort to the next option, which is skype. Too bad they cannot fix this problem, guess it doesn't rate high enough on their income pool to do so. 😟 Thanks!
