Siri is not working AT ALL on new iphone 4s. Anyone else having trouble?

iPhone 4s arrived by mail today. Turned on Siri via Settings/General. Asking REALLY simple questions like "What is the weather?" and Siri has not responded ONCE with an answer other than:

"What was that again?"

"Sorry, something's gone wrong. Can you try that agan?"

"Sorry, I didn't get that."

"Uh oh. Something's wrong. Can you try again?"

SO frustrating and disappointing. The microphone doesn't seem like the problem, as it is able to record audio elsewhere.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue with Siri?

Siri was working fine for me for the last couple of weeks, but now it's completely down. No solution in sight and no acknowledgement of the problem from Apple. So far, under Tim Cook's watch, Apple is looking more and more like Microsoft. At least they're now addressing the battery issues, but how did that not notice that problem before releasing the phone? Must be adopting Microsoft's testing strategies.

I totally agree - what the heck does an app need to connet to any network just to open a local reminder or make a voice call from internal contact. Poor app design - or a sneeking way of using up your cellular minutes. I've notice the iPhone sending data packets when connected to my home wifi - even when I had cellular turned off!

Jeeze, it's beta for gosh sakes. It's not like the phone otherwise won't function with all of it's features without Siri. Obviously Apple is having some hiccups with this new service and as always, they will work it out. It ain't the end of the world. In the meantime, everyone should chill and use the other 999 other things you can do with the phone. (What did we ever do without Siri before the 4s)?

The thing that concerns me the most is that when Sir can't connect to the network, I can't do hands free dialing in my car. Apple, if you are listening, make it so the contacts can be accessed for dialing even when Siri can't contact the network.

By the way, one procedure which can bring Siri back online is:

Disable Siri in Settings

Turn Phone Off

Power Back on

Enable Siri in Settings

This is too hard to do when driving though.

I'm sorry.... where does it say 'Beta'? Not on the TV advert, not on the Apple home page, not on the Apple iPhone Store page.

People, the whole point and definition of a Beta Test is one that is given to a small number of users, to test in a user environment to iron out any bugs that the in-house testers couldn't replicate in their Alpha Test.

You can blame Microsoft for starting the whole 'releasing a Beta version to the whole community' but then they have no control over the thousands of variants of hardware and other software it's customers use to run it's products. Apple doesn't have this problem.

Beta versions are not commercially sellable and I am sorry but the price of the new iPhone is most definitely marketed at the functionality of Siri - it's sure not the dual A5 - most of the community clearly get nothing from this - at least for the next 6 months.

Lastly, if it were a 'beta' version - then where are the support pages dedicated to collecting Incidents from users, full Problem Management process etc etc.... there isn't....

This is a paid for, fully released, commercial product and a USP (unique selling point). If it's not working as advertised then Apple support team need to be coming clean and provide Incient Management for it.

Snagitseven - I fear you have been living in the Microsoft world too long. Those of us who have been using Apple products since the 80s expect more. Much more.

@ Dictation: Yeah, well thanks for your assumption I'm a MS user and your lecturing of my inability to assume all Apple products should be perfect. In fact, I purchased the first Mac in Denver in 1984 and I'm on my sixth Mac (Mac Pro), third iPhone (and have an iPad). As far as I can recall, not one of them was ever perfect out of the box.

As for the beta notation, it states "Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply" right on the bottom of the Apple Siri feature page and has been widely reported as such. It might be a good idea to check carefully before you righteously declare otherwise.

Sure, I expect a great deal from Apple - they've earned it over the years with great products but at the same time, they have almost never been perfect - complex products rarely are out of the chute. The point is, this is new technology and to get one's panties in a bunch with staunch indignation a short time after release because there's a problem, is just an exercize in self-induced frustration. If you just bought a house or a car and had a problem would you declare to the world the house or car was a bust or would you give the maker a chance to fix it? Is the 4s unusable because Siri is off-line for a few hours?

Apple, while not as forthcoming as we would like at times, will ultimately resolve important issues as they have shown in the past. If you have been using Apple products "since the '80s" as you imply, surely you must know this.

Patience. All will be fine.
