Siri is not working AT ALL on new iphone 4s. Anyone else having trouble?

iPhone 4s arrived by mail today. Turned on Siri via Settings/General. Asking REALLY simple questions like "What is the weather?" and Siri has not responded ONCE with an answer other than:

"What was that again?"

"Sorry, something's gone wrong. Can you try that agan?"

"Sorry, I didn't get that."

"Uh oh. Something's wrong. Can you try again?"

SO frustrating and disappointing. The microphone doesn't seem like the problem, as it is able to record audio elsewhere.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue with Siri?

I just don't understand where Siri is coming up with its interpretations of what I'm asking. I speak clearly and I'm ennunciating correctly so how does Siri go from "Search web for Esslestein" to reply either "*******. Stop that, I'm blushing.", or "Searching for *** Hole." There is no way I pronounce Esslestein to sound like *******. Really Apple. Thank goodness it works most of the time when I ask for music. Needless to say, I don't use Siri in public. It's got a dirty mouth!

I sometimes get weird things like that too. E.g., I said "successes" and, I kid you not, it transcribed it as "sex *****", twice in a row. I needed to say "successes" much more slowly and deliberately before it worked. Couldn't believe it. Would not have been hilarious (for me, I mean) if I'd not caught the error. (And sometimes, particularly on longer dictations when part of the transcription is off the screen, one doesn't catch it.)

Siri is wonderful in many ways and most of the time, but occasionally it is worse than useless.

This iPhone i got for work is abysmal. Siri is a joke; it has not worked once in the few months I've neen trying to interact with it. The "voice recognition" is laughable. My android's voice recognition is incredible: fast and accurate every time. And the camera on th 4s, while better than previous iterations is still a piece of junk next to my Android.

Please try this temporary workaround to get it WORKING on WIFI and please call the Apple store from the country you bought the iPhone from and report this issue. They arent really aware that so many of us are having this problem. If you cant call up your iphone's country's Apple store then please report it in the country that you are in atleast.

This makes siri work with wifi only . Go to the wifi options in settings and go to the advanced options of the connected network by touching the blue arrow .In the DNS field enter one of these DNS settings :- 208.67.220.220 or 208.67.222.222 or google DNS(8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). if it doesnt work instantly ,restart the phone by powering it off and on.

Also do remember to call the Apple Store and tell them how exactly you've got it to work, if you did i.e by changing to those specific DNS settings and only on Wifi.

Hopefully this would bring it to their attention and we could see this getting fixed soon.

Thanks..

This is assuming you've already tried resetting network settings , restoring firmware etc .

Try all of these:

~ Settings > General > Siri > ON - OFF > OFF > ON - OFF > ON

~ Hold in Home + Lock button: Ingore Red Bar: Let go when apple logo appears: Try Siri.

~ Software Update? This is if your phone isnt running on 5.1.1~

Under iOS 5.1:

(Using Computer) Open iTunes > Connect iPhone > Click on the label that says (Name)'s iPhone > Software Update

iOS 5.1 and over:

Settings > General > Software Update

If that doesn't work, (on iPhone) call 611 and tell apple what's going on.

Thank you,

Siri understands what you're saying so much better now with iOS 6, probably one of very few features about iOS 6 that is really worth a tinkers dern. However... Siri now (on 4S) takes sooooo long to fetch answers, it's like she's sitting there using the phone-a-friend option on Cash Cab. I'm sure it's just something wrong with my phone or a very select few of others, no way there could be anything wrong with iOS6.

I'll be glad to see the updates to this mess released so hopefully the majority of us with literally useless devices can start getting our money back out our products.

Solution.

Since the change from google maps to apple maps. It is now necessary to go to your details in contacts, select your home address, maps appear now select by tapping on a road next to your home, a new pin appears saying dropped pin, click the arrow then add to contacts, add to existing, select yourself, then edit, delete the old home address then change the new one to read home. Do for other stored addresses. Works just fine now with siri
