iPhone 4S camera not working ("Shutter" remains closed in app)

Hi,

I fired up the Camera app on the 4S and the "shutter" will not open (either for stills or videos). I tried rebooting the phone and it's still not working -- I've let it sit for about 15 minutes. Note that the FRONT camera DOES work just fine-- it's just the rear that's not functioning 😟. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks,

Hi,

I discovery how to fix this...it is simple. iTunes. Sync your iPhone with an other iTunes.

Sadly, but yes it is. I tryed every single little thing that i found in web to solve this. But when i gave it up and plug my iphone in my work computer to charge the iTunes synced without telling my iphone was enroled with an onther itunes, so for the curiosity i let the process go and the magic was done.

The worst part is to delete all your itunes and start a new one, make a new music library, download all the app, lose all the Messenges. But better than lose iPhone.

My model:

iPhone 4S (white)

32 GB

iOS: 6.1.2

Having the same problem as everybody. I bought it new, only 4 months old.

I've tried all the proposed solutions on this forum and others I found in youtube and Google.

None worked! Now it's in an authorized technical assistance replacing the camera. Very frustrating. Hope this won't happen in the future models.

I have a 4S I bought from Sprint last August, I was prompted for the latest update (6.1.3) after installing and restarting my camera stopped working. I restored the phone, nothing. I have always worked on iPhones so I bought a new camera and installed it, nothing. Connections all look good as well.

I have tried each of the solutions listed with no success. The only thing I havent done is go to an Apple store, but that is only because the closest one is 2 hrs away. Any other options I can try?

Our problem *still is*, one of the lenses doesn't work:

Here is what works for us

1. Start Camera

2. Press home button

3. Double press home button, So that the recent applications show up at the bottom.

4. Keep one app pressed such that the red minus sign appears

5. Close /cancel the camera app

6. Press the home button

this is the critical step

7. Open the camera app and immediately tap the area where the camera lens switching icon will appear.

8. Wait for 5 seconds

camera should open now.

if not, then you have a different issue.

btw, the our front lens still doesn't work!!!

Hi all,

I have just had this problem. My temporary solution was to install a different "free" camera app. I don't have use of a video (as I can find a free video camera app) but I can still use the video if I access it by "messages". Since I don't often take video this isn't much of an issue for me.

I can't get my mind around the problem as it can't possibly be a physical fault as you can still access the camera with other app software. I wish you could delete the camera app and reinstall it as I'm sure this would solve the problem, but this doesn't seem to be an option.

My fix is a band aid, but at least I can take pictures again.
