iPhone 4S camera not working ("Shutter" remains closed in app)

Hi,

I fired up the Camera app on the 4S and the "shutter" will not open (either for stills or videos). I tried rebooting the phone and it's still not working -- I've let it sit for about 15 minutes. Note that the FRONT camera DOES work just fine-- it's just the rear that's not functioning 😟. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks,

Recently I have got a chance to visit the original country after upgrading the OS to 5.1.

I was using the SIM which I purchased at that country.

The symptom returned to my phone.

I made a genius reservation and visited the store I bought it.

A genius checked some query tool via an iPad and knew that the symptom is very common one, and checked it is reproducible on my phone.

He brought a black plastic box which contains a replacement phone.

Now I have the replaced phone and working fine.

Yes I have same problem as Mr PioAlberto with iphone 4 after updating to ver 5.1, rear camera freezes, front camera is fine but slow.. Flash still works with torch app, this is also slow.. Google searched and done all the resets and restarts that others have tried.. still same problem.. guessing its the latest update that has coursed the problem. Any fixes would greatly be appreciated, but waiting for next update i guess

I got my iPhone 4S about 5 weeks ago ane tried to use my camera yesterday, opened the app, and the shutter stays closed.

I closed it down and didnt think anymore about it, until tonight, turned the app on and the shutter stays closed then opens for a couple of seconds but the screen is completely black then it closes again. You cant select the flash or any of the options. I have tried using it with facetime and the front camera works but as soon as you change it to main camera the picture is distorted and pixelated, you can then not change it back to the front camera. There does seem to be something loose in the top of the camera area, the phone rattles slightly.

Im waiting for O2s tech support to get back to me but I am not willing to accept a temporary replacement while this goes away for repair, its brand new and from this discussion I can see that I am not on my own.

Oh btw I have done a factory reset and checked my software is up to date, turned the phone off etc, and this still doesnt work. Help please 😟

Hi Shimpie

See my post above, same problem as you.. Talked to Apple they replaced my phone with a new one.. so far great service. I choose the option to have them send out the phone first, then send the old one back so that I'm not with out a phone.. That option does cost.. about $30 US dollars (more in my currency) but they do want credit card details in case you don't send the old phone back, then they would charge you for a new phone..

They have yet to look at my old phone to see if the phone is at fault and if I am charged a fee or not..

Best thing to do is get in touch with them, see how you get on.. They do have good service so far.. Will let you know how i get on

I have had my mike not working as well as my camera not opening up. I have solved both problems by allowing the battery to completely die....... Plug charger back in after ten minutes turn iphone back on and it should start working again. If iphone ask to upgrade software please do just that and your problems should be solved.

Hope this helps .

My camera has had not been working for ages and I decided to order a replacement camera module (about £4 on Amazon). Upon opening the phone I noticed a small eyelash had got caught between the camera connection and the logic board. I removed this, reseated the connector and it no works everytime.

Very often just reseating a connection solves "hardware" issues.

I hope this helps
