iTunes to iPhone "Unknown error 0xE800007F"

I have Wi-Fi Sync active and it works great unplugged from power -- but when I plug my phone into power and it starts syncing, iTunes says the following:

"iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800007F)."

Searching gives me zilch. Anyone have an ideas? Everything is running the latest verison of iOS, etc., etc...

@dmorris145.... It doesn't defeat the purpose of wireless for everyone... I have chargers in other parts of my house, people have docking stations they use, people don't always have spare USB ports while using their computer for something else... etc. Let's stay on topic 🙂

In addition - I am expecting to have some news on this early this week. I will post an update as soon as I hear... stay posted (and stay friendly to each other)

wires, yes. wired, no. This is a network behavior under discussion, and the network is wireless. Just as the computer I am typing on is plugged in but connected to the wireless network. Plugged in is not synonymous with wireless.

I also saw that Apple states that it will connect via WiFi if the device is connected to power, but it appears to work while running on battery power only - just not well.

That's disappointing to hear - can you confirm if you've also updated your iPhone / iPad to iOS 5.1 today?

(I updated both iTunes and my iPhone 4S around 9.30am and have not yet seen the error reappear - though I'm planning to give it at least 48 hours before I consider it resolved, and hope others do the same as the issue is intermittent - some days it occurs repeatedly throughout the day, others I only see the problem occur 2 or 3 times).

I've also just had the error appear again (iTunes and iPhone both updated) - so it is not resolved by the latest updates.

iTunes does seem to be much more responsive overall than it was in the previous version, so worth updating anyway.

Regarding Apple's "silence" on this (and other) forum topics...

For those (like me) who are disappointed that Apple have not yet replied to this or other threads which discuss these types of problems, I have been reliably informed that although Apple staff do sometimes refer to these forums when relevant to a case they are working on, they don't actively monitor them (or comment on them it would seem).

Personally I can understand why others are annoyed at Apple for their silence on what is such an irritating issue often multiple times a day, or even hour. I feel that the title of this forum ("Apple Support Communities") is perhaps a little misleading and if it was clearer to all that this is not the official route to engage Apple support, it would be helpful and perhaps prevent some forum members (including me) getting irritated.

I also think it wouldn't hurt Apple to provide some sort of bug tracking system that customers could search to see if a particular issue is known about, what its status is, and even what the suggested solutions are.

Who knows, things might improve in this regard in the future. In the meantime - let's be nice to each other, and to Apple staff. They're people too, after all - and to date those I've dealt with have been incredibly helpful and committed to helping me resolve issues.

I'll update as soon as I hear any more...

@dmorris145 - no I don't think you've missed anything. However, I did miss your post on 5 March - sorry for that....

"so where is your update?"

The Apple engineer looking into this for me is on leave for 2 weeks. I was given the opportunity to have it passed to someone else while he was away but opted to wait as to date he's been very responsive and thorough. He is trying to get a solution on this for us and as soon as he's back and I have any news I promise I'll share.

"BTW, power cord or docking station=wired"

My interpretation of wireless in this context is that the iPhone is able to communicate with iTunes wirelessly, though I can accept that others might interpret it otherwise.

Glad to see it's not just me. I've been having these random error messages pop up on my MacBook Air for months now but only when I plug my iPhone 4 into the universal dock in my bedroom to charge it up at night (WiFi sync is, of course, turned on). The next time I go to my MacBook Air the iTunes icon is hopping mad to tell me it's latest error - usually this "unknown error (0xE800007F)" but sometimes it'll mix it up.

And yet I can tell iTunes or my iPhone to wirelessly sync by hitting the button on either device manually and it works just fine. AND my iPad 2 never reports these kinds of problems even though it's also charging at the same time in the kitchen.

It certainly is annoying but it's easier to take knowing other haven't yet found a solution to the problem either.
