Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

Hellow Amazon Silkaner 13...this is Houston! It is great to hear the continued good news regarding the 5.1 beta 3 "SIM Scrubber." Keep those updates coming. 😉 There are a lot of folks down here that are concerned about you and find great comfort in knowing the fix seems to be working. Looking forward to getting you home, safe and sound...with a final 5.1 update.

Houston...signing out.

3 days running smoothly now after updating to 5.01 (9A406) from 5.01 (9A405). Whitey 32gb factory unlocked Korea GSM version

Tested on 2 carriers in 2 different countries now, both are new pre-paid sims.

Blackie 64gb encountered same issues with 5.01 (9A405), been running properly after update to 9A406. This seems to be proof enough that it was a software issue and not hardware issue for me.

Both Blackie and Whitey are bought at the same store on the same day the week after Christmas 2011.

Using a 32gig white iPhone 4S came with 5.0.1 out of a box. Every morning I have sim failure MSG using in Cambodia Carrier Mobitel. Recently came to China, more than a week now using China Mobile sim card. I stop having that issue. What's the different? The sim card is cut by vendor same as any other. I have tried several time to change sim card back in Cambodia, problem still persist. Didn't try beta3 yet because it only happen beta, waiting for full release. But NOTE! China Mobile only use EDGE no 3G. That lead me to believe all iPhone 4S work fine without 3G.

Has anyone noticed that this is happening and the right side of the phone getting incredibly hot? I have only noticed this SIM Card Failure issue after using my phone to do video chat, or after playing a little Angry Birds, or doing something a bit intensive. The SIM card slot is definitley hotter to the touch than the rest of the phone.

I've had 2 sim card failures in the 8 weeks or so that I've had my 4S.... I think you're onto something when you bring up the heat issue. Both times I was playing a CPU-intensive game (Marvel Pinball), and noticed that the phone was quite warm when the sim failed.

Reinstalling the sim card while the handset is still powered on seems to do the trick for me, provided the unit has cooled off a bit.

Judging by the amount of comments (66 PAGES on this one thread), this is a big problem with the 4S.
