iPhone 4s Battery Life?

I intend to bring mine back when Apple have a soloution to the problem. I don't think a software update will fix my phone, because the static noise, and the noise I can hear coming from my phone using cellular data.

I understand a lot of people are expecting more battery life out of the iphone 4s.

A lot of people just do not understand that a dual core processor uses a lot of battery life.

Also just like another user already posted , the phone always checks the time of day , reminders , etc.

All of these people who are getting a new phone are just getting the phone for no reason what so ever!

The new features of the operating system along with the dual core processor and some other upgrades is the reason why your phone does not have the battery life that your older iphone has.

I posted some tips before about how to save battery life. One user posted it back along with some other tips from other users as the best advice to save battery life. I will post them again and tell u a couple of new things that I discovered while using my iphone. I just want to tell everyone that this is my first iphone. I was an android user and had a Droid X. The Android phone died after about 4 hours of use and sometimes used 40 percent in one hour.

1. There is definately a drain issue with the time zone setting. I tested it myself and watched it closely and it does use a lot more battery life with the option ON. So if you turn this option OFF , you will save some battery life.

2. Siri uses data. Data is collected through 3g. 3g uses a lot of battery life. ( I turned Siri Off Completely )

3. Location Services! When you open apps that require the gps built into the phone , this will use a lot more data. Think about it ! The Gps Reciever needs power , then the app is also using data from 3g , and the display at the same time. Just make sure that you turn off location services if you really don't need it. I only use it for Google Maps and I turn it off after that.

NOW I WANT TO USE BOLD ON THESE LAST 2 TIPS BECAUSE THEY ARE IMPORTANT.

1. When You charge your phone .... Plug your phone into the wall and look and make sure it is charging. When you see that your telephone is charging... TURN THE TELEPHONE OFF BY HOLDING DOWN THE POWER BUTTON. After the phone is off.... Let it charge. It will charge like this. I tried this and found that It helped a lot.

( I know that sometimes you need a quick charge and need to leave the phone on. This is okay sometimes but for maximum use ... Plug the phone into the wall with the phone on. Look and make sure it is charging on the battery icon. Then Turn The Phone Off and let it charge. You will not know when it get's to 100 percent because the screen will be off. You can turn it on to check but make sure u turn it right back off while it is plugged in. Charge it to 100 percent and get more battery life 🙂 )

2. HOW YOU USE YOUR PHONE IS IMPORTANT. When you Open and Close an App , That uses battery life. In my opinion , closing an app uses more battery life than opening one. So you must get in a habit of not running through program after program after program ... touch after touch after touch ...

Find the program that you want to use... Use It.... And Do not switch through everything so fast.

Make sure you are not constantly closing down programs every 2 or 3 minutes. REMEMBER......

THIS IS A TELEPHONE AND NOT A DESKTOP COMPUTER. REMEMBER.... IT IS A PHONE AND NOT A PLAYSTATION 3!!!!!! Do NOT FORGET THAT THIS IS A PHONE!

I know these tips may seem lame but they work. They are tried... tested... and 100 percent sure to save you some battery life. I read most of the tips from this site except the last 2.

The Issue with charging the phone with the phone off really helped me a lot. I hope it helps you all to. The Iphone 4s is a really nice phone and you should enjoy it.

@enx23: my fix is still working, my 4S's battery drain is no longer worse than that of my 4 or my 3GS.

Oh, and reading all those recommendations like turn this off and that off and reading how we are arguing against each other instead of trying to help each other, I got a great Idea for THE SOLUTION to the 4S's battery drain:

do not turn off anything like wifi, mobile data, location services, etc. That is only fighting the symptoms. From a holistic point of view that best solution is: turn your iPhone off... It's useless without all these features anyway.

Well not to be rude or anything but the phone is still useful with some things turned off.

You still have internet , You still can open apps , You can do almost anything with these things turned off.

You are not turning your phone into a brick by making some adjustment's that fit your needs.

Everyone uses their phone differently and some people need some settings on... some people need some off.

Getting to know your habits of how you use your phone and apps u use ... and learning what you do not use and turning those off is a way of learning how to be smart about using your " smartphone "

Some users here have trouble with their 4S. Some have pretty obvious hardware problems, ie. static noise and overheating. Some have a problem with usage that can't be logically explained, and may be SIM problems, or old apps that crash on exit, but continue to remain active. Others just want more than the phone will deliver, like 200 hours standby. I am amazed by how many people complain about how much battery power their phones use overnight. My question for them is why not put it on the charger overnight, and then they can start with 100%. Most people don't use their phones for anything when they are asleep.

I never indicated that people here don't have problems, but I collect, and try to make sense of information in an effort to help others. Sorry you don't seem to like that.

Well, mine is working fine, so I would resist any effort to take it away from me. Tell you what, you can have my old Windows 6.3 phone. It used to make it through most of a day, as long as I didn't use it. Apple IS workig on it. Sometimes complex equipment has problems that are complex, and no matter HOW many people are complaining, it doesn't get the problem solved any faster. Failure to accept reality doesn't change the reality.

Hey enx23, Apple released 5.1 beta 3 today to developers and guess what.........it wont fix the battery either ! haha. You can add to your growing list. Looks like you need to stick with your Nokia for a while longer.

Truth is, there is a problem with the iPhone 4S battery life no matter how you put it. It lasts way shorter than my iPhone 4 battery life and official standby hours are not even close to what I get on my phone. Yes, I have all (yes, all) services on, location services, push notifications, 3G data, you name it. I expect my phone to work to the fullest and my iPhone 4 worked great. Honestly I like the 4S, mainly for it's speed advantage over the iPhone 4 (I could care less about the better camera or Siri especially since you can have Siri on iPhone 4 now) but if it comes down to having really crappy battery life I might have to go back to the iPhone 4 and return my 4S.

That's a shame, means that all those people convinced that it will be fixed in a software update, even though there's no mention of addressing the issue in Apple's change log for 5.1, will have to wait even longer to be disappointed.

Interesting the 3G toggle is back in the new beta. Perhaps they can't fix it elegantly so are just giving people the ability to turn off 3G.

Samsung will be laughing all the way to the bank at this rate!

So folks, yesterday i removed an Yahoo email acct then decided to add it back. Wow, I started with the battery woes everyone is buzzing about today. I tried to think what the H** I did different and that was all I could think of as it was late last night when I did it. So after a few reboots and a hard reset I decided to run the Reset ALL Settings process. So far it seems to have got me back straight. Hard to tell other than battery is not spiraling down like it was this morning. I did not do a restore/backup just because but probably could have. I just reset all settings and manually fixed my settings back like I wanted them. Anyway thought I would report this odd behavior by what appears to be simply deleting an email acct and adding it back. Could be more to it but I have not had any issues until I did that last night.

So Justinxtreme2, Certainly its your prerogative to have ALL features of if you desire. However consider the fact that the 4s has more features and faster CPU (your speed advantages you mentioned) and higher end GPU etc and pretty much on the same battery as the 4. So if you really think its going to last the same as an older device that has less of the above items with the same battery, well I suspect you will have to understand its probably not going to. I mean a Ferrari may have the same size gas tank as a toyota but which one you think will run longer? Guess its possible they could run the same if you don't run the Ferrari flat out and wide open. 🙂

Well I was poking at enx23. I suspect 5.1 final will in fact address it. They may not put everything they do in the dev change log and its still not GM yet either. Also already seen reviews that 5.1 B2 helped battery for a lot. Of course some say not but Beta typically has background items and may not be optimized yet. So cant really take it to the bank that just because its not in the change log that it doesn't exist or isn't being worked on still.

I still believe its beeing addressed. Apple wont just ignore this. They didnt get where they are by being slackers.

Your Iphone 4 Had great battery life.

This is good but now you have a different phone with a dual core processor , and lot's of new features that are always checking your location , sending and receiving more data through 3g that u don't even know about , and so many more other things.

There is not a problem with the phone , It is just the new features of the phone. The new things require more power to run.
