It REALLY pains you that some users get good battery life, doesn't it? I am sure it is really annoying to see your battery discharging in several hours, and others get days out of theirs, but that doesn't make them untruthful.

It's just because you haven't been with us for a long time - you would know that I haven't bought an Apple phone, and I most likely never will, unless they make a candybar feature one that's affordable and that has crystal clear call quality. Of course stateside there are tons of cheap phones but when you want a phone - not a status lifestyle gadget - you read reviews about the PHONE component of the phone, which I did, and that's when I discovered the Nokia phone I talked about - and you would know that Nokia phones have always had a reputation for great reception and pristine call quality. On the other hand you would still expect a Rolls to make it to the McDonalds drive-thru in style, and to have the juice to bring you back home when you're done with your Big Mac, otherwise why would you pay for that? It has to be a car first and foremost.

You see, I'm quite knowledgeable about the iPhone and smartphones in general, yet I have not found a single reason why I should buy one of them. I don't do social networking (fb, twitter or others), I don't have the need to browse the web on the go, I don't play games on a credit card size sceen, I have a chinese MP4 audio/video player for multimedia, I'm not clueless to the point of needing a GPS to find a place in the city or outside, I have a real camera for photos and I'm not into status. I do mail at home or at the office. Plus I don't want "text neck" and when I wait for the tube or the bus, I look at... women, trees, buildings, whatever - I like to be aware and couldn't care less for trivial stuff like statuses or notifcations about someone saying something I don't care about. I don't need to know the weather in advance... I'm a man, and rain or snow or thunder doesn't get in my way - for security I rely on being physically fit and trained, so nothing will ever get in my way. When I'm with someone for coffee or drinks or a meal, I stop talking when they use or look at their phones, then I wait an extra 30 seconds before starting again... I've noticed now my friends and colleagues no longer use their smartphones when I'm around. It's about respect, manners, and taste - which some smartphone users lack.

I think your last sentence is the only one I agree with you on. I see people in restaurants sit down talking on their phones, or doing something else, and they continue until their food comes, then resume when they are done eating, while their dinner companions sit looking annoyed, or drag out their own phone. I even saw a family and all three of them (10 year old girl was youngest), pulled out their phones, and texted, or played games. RUDE.

I quite enjoy my smartphone and all it can do, but I don't forget that it is just a useful tool, and I don't have to play with it ALL the time.

You really believe Apple is working on a fix. They knew this was a problem 6 months ago and released it anyway. You mean to tell me with all the money and engineers that Apple has if they wanted a fix they could not have come up with one by now. They only see $ signs they continue to sell them even though it a major problem and the only thing they are worried about is rushing the 5 out so they can sell even more phones. Its all about the bottom line profit as has always been the case with Apple. Customer satisfaction will always take a back seat with Apple ....

Yes, No, Yes (have fixed some with 5.0.1, and working toward others with 5.1). Really YOU think they intentionally induced a bug and dont want to fix it and rather just have bad press and all you dufuses on here complaining? Continue to sell them cause people continue to buy them and MOST of them are fine. And Apple has historically had some of the best customer service for a big company ever.

settings>general>date and time>set automatically>turned off. that's it.
set manually your location.

it solves the battery drain issue for me now i am 2 days 3 hours standby on 3% battery indicator.

I have last question. This is the result I got from my iPhone. I do not understand, why the Usage and Stand by times are the same? I used the phone very little - just two or three times I switched on the Wi-fi for a very short time. I called once (very short call) and sent SMS twice. Mosty the phone was in Stand-by mode (stand-by mode I understand to be when the phone automatically gets black. In order to switch it on I have to "slide to unlock"). Could you please tell me if you consider my phone battery life to be acceptable, or not? On Monday I will decide if I return it or not. Thank you friends for all your previous comments and your kind help. I appreciate this forum.

Six months ago? The phone was released in Oct. which is less than 4 months ago. So, you have some insider information that indicates that there was a known problem 2 months before release?

Yes, I DO believe that Apple is working on the problem. They have a long history of excellent support, and I doubt that will change soon. It appears that you either don't know much about Apple, or you have motives not related to reason, or the evidence of past history.

As I have said before, I have never liked Apple because they, historically, offer slower, less powerful hardware for more money than the competition, but customer service, and satisfaction are unmatched in the industry. There must be something they are doing right.

I am happy that worked for you, and it DOES help with the IOS 5.0 release, but that was fixed in 5.01, and others have problems not related to this issue. Some are clearly hardware problems, others aren't so easy to define.

You clearly have the 'phantom process' issue. Some phones seem to have a process that runs, sapping the battery, all the time, and it seems to be related to SIM problems. I am not sure if this is hardware, or software, or both, but users with serial numbers that start with CN seem to be prone to this problem.

This is probably an iOS bug, it has happened to me too, I managed to fix it by switching of iCloud backup, doing a settings reset. I haven't switched on iCloud backup after that. My iPhones battery usage is still not what it should be, but not as bad as when the usage time and standby time was the same. I can manage 5-6 hours use and 1 day standby with cellular data switched off most of the time.

You keep saying this, in spite of clear evidence that Apple continues to work on IOS 5.1 release which, in part, addresses this problem. Why do you persist in saying something that is obviously not true? If you really believe it is criminal, go to your local police, and file charges. Until you do, please spare us your unsubstantiated raving.
