iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

I have a similar problem with my 2009 Renault Megane Coupe. The bluetooth worked absolutely fine before and now i've update to iOS5 on both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2, I get a problem where when I try to skip songs it takes 5 seconds to respond to the command.

It's not the end of the world but it's really annoying when you're trying to find a song. Skip.wait wait wait wait wait New song! Not the one I want.. ****.. skip wait wait wait wait wait. New song!

It's the same whether i connect to my itunes on the phone or ipad.

Hopefully an update will arrive soon as it must be effecting thousands and thousands of people.

I know some of you have had problems installing the update and I'm sorry to hear this. It worked fine for me and I'd just like to thank Ford for there quick work! Not only did they make a fix but they also introduced the ability for the end user to update themselves rather than having to get a Ford technician to do it! For me this is an amazing bit of work, thankyou Ford, I just wish you had gave us some indication that you where working on it!

Another thing that works now which didn't before is I can connect the iPhone to the USB port and stream my music this way, before the update you needed a special ford cable and use the aux I/p.

Very Very disappointed with apple for not even bothering to comment in the discussion!

This is a very interesting find - thanks for sharing. I never bothered with the iphone playing music before in this way as it was such a faff. And refrained from playing via bluetooth for too long as it drains the battery. So now we can charge and play with one cable - great news!

The update from Ford worked perfectly for me, and I am very happy!

One slight 'user-error' that I would like to ensure others as stupid as me avoid:

The instructions say to turn on the radio (before turning on the ignition) in my case 'ignition' means the big start button on my S-MAX. I hit the radio button again and again and it wouldn't start. This, is NOT how the radio is switched on. You do it by pressing the large rotary button in the main console under the display screen. Then when you switch the ignition on the process kicks off as instructed.

There: an idiots guide, on how to switch on the radio

Same problems as everyone else here. I'm in Perth Australia with a 2010 Mondeo XR-5 (the au badge for the turbo) with a Sony head unit.

I took the car in for a service on Thursday 27/10/11 to a Ford dealer in Melville, explained the problem and asked them to check for a bluetooth update to the head unit.

I was told they checked it, that they contacted Ford Australia, and there is no new update for the system.

A few posters have said they have had a fix, or partial fix, from a Ford dealer. If anyone has specific information about their fix from Ford, such as which dealer fixed it (country and location) and any version information identifying the firmware upgrade, that could be very helpful to all of us. When we approach our local dealers and are told there is no fix, we might be able to point them in the right direction.

Hi Charles,

I'm in Adelaide and have the same 2010 Mondeo XR5 Turbo with Sony unit.

I rang Ford dealer and booked in to have them look for an update to Bluetooth and or dash unit, etc. and they said they didn't know of any updates but would have a look but it wouldn't be under warranty.

Given what I had read here I decided not to bother and see what else I could find out for myself.

Thankfully someone on here found an update that could be done myself via USB so I downloaded it, followed the instructions exactly and voila! Problem fixed!!

Thanks to the poster (sorry I can't remember the name)

Let me know if you have any issues or questions

Cheers

Wayne

Thanks very much to Wayne, and to Shamu35 and others.

I downloaded the update and the PDF instructions from the http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com site since my last post this morning.

The installation went according to plan.

The update seems to resolve the 'read error' problem. No song titles but I'm not sure I ever had that with the iphone/bleutooth connection anyway (I do with the ipod via USB). I haven't checked the 20 min dropout problem, but from what others say, I'm feeling confident that's fixed.

The only problem I've noticed (which I didnt have prior to the Ford update) is I have to manually reconnect the bluetooth connection to the phone when starting the car by going through 'settings/general/bluetooth/ford audio' on the phone - the phone doesnt seem to be automatically discoverable at the moment. Not a big deal - at least it works now when it's connected.

Now for the feedback email to my local Ford service centre!

Hi Kylienic

Can you please advise what ford dealership in oz that you took your car to as mine was at ford all day yesterday with no outcome and i was told point blank my phone was newer tec than my car so basically just to suck it until such time as an upgrade comes for my mondeo. Curious as obviously my ford dealer is one of those clueless ones who i wouldn't mind enlightning with some info.

thanks Heaps

Charles,

No problem, interestingly I never had Album/Song titles show up on the Sony system but I do now.. I was hoping that somehow they had an upgrade to the "in-dash control system" which displayed better info than just "BT Audio" but info on the stereo is better than nothing.

I have also found that it has a problem finding the phone each restart and like you have to go through the reconnection. It seem like it knows something is there but can quite connect properly. I did find previously that I often had to change the input each time to "Aux Input" and back again to get it to play music so I guess "you win some - you lose some"!

At least now it doesn't drop out...went for over an hour on Friday and no problems and no issues with phone dropouts, etc, etc.

Also "Siri" works great in the iPhone 4S through the Bluetooth/Hands Free so I can send SMS, set reminders, etc and still concentrate on the road. I assume this is legal??

Happy camper again!

I have a UK Ford Fiesta 1.6 tdci and had the same problems in that my iphone using IOS 5 would not work. I have just downloaded the software at http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/downloadsUpdates and installed it as outlined in the instructions. Very easy to do and solved the problems and is much better than when the iPhone was running IOS 4.

Thanks very much for those who pointed me towards this website.
