iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

Congratulations to everyone who was able to successfully update. Unfortunately the update wasn't working for me and when I went to the Ford dealership they had no idea what I was talking about. Maybe the updates do not work on the Asian Ford Fiestas?

Anyway, I decided to go back to iOS 4.3.3. I can't NOT hace BT while driving as my daily commute is about 2 hours long.

Hi guys,

Long story short, upgraded the iPhone to iOS 5 on a iPhone 3GS. My car is a S-Max 2010. Troubles in paradise with Bluetooth connection when it comes to phone functions as well as music playback. I've really been looking all around. I even tried (several) times to upgrade the Ford by going to www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com. Instead of upgrading the Ford for 20 to 45 minutes as described in the pdf, my car was still updating after 3 hours. At the end: no change. So I had a look at the online Ford community and the the only good reply I got was this " Go to yout Ford dealer, they will upgrade your Ford Multimedia Radio " and the best thing is " they do it for free ". So, brothers in arms, do not get upset, let us not start blaming either Ford or Apple. Let's be honest: the iPhone is a state of the art mobile. I had the chance to get a demo from a relative and ... Apple will always be apple.

Hey my iPhone Friends

Well I’ll be d%%^%$ed, I should have checked with you guys/gals before I upgraded my 3GS to iOS 5!!!!! The way I operate is to close the door after the horse has gotten out. I have an iPhone 3GS and a 2011 Ford King Ranch Expedition with the latest, greatest Ford Voice Activated Navigation, Radio, Phone/Media (Via Bluetooth), Sync My Ride Stuff. I’ve just this past week upgraded my phone and the first thing that hit me square between the eyes was the Bluetooth Connectivity problems. I had my wife not to upgrade her 3GS until I could get this figured out (on my own, how stupid). Finally went to my local Apple Store and they were unable to get the Bluetooth to communicate which seems to be different than just connecting via Bluetooth. After several attempts they gave me a new phone (w/iOS 5) as they were thinking that my iPhone was the problem and not the software (The Apple Genius techs here in San Antonio Texas know less than you guys about this problem) what a surprise!! Anyway they replaced the phone with another which had iOS 5; needless to say, of course I began having the same Bluetooth problems staying connected/communicating via the connected Bluetooth and of course again I called and made an appointment for an Apple Store visit yesterday (29 Oct 11) and this time I was a little more irritated. I requested that they take my phone back to the old iOS 4.##.## and they said that they would but subsequently found that it isn’t allow. I had them give me a new iPhone with the older iOS 4.3.5 and they did as I need my car capability. Not one problem for the rest of the day from the Bluetooth and any other functions for that matter. I intend to restore my data back to the iPhone today and based on the number of threads I’ve read here, I think I’ll wait a bit until all the bugs are corrected before attempting to upgrade to iOS 5 again unless I hear some really good news concerning fix actions and positive results. Thanks for all the comments out there.

Malik,

That is the same problem I have with my 2011 Edge with the high tech Sync my Ride but don't try to synce your stinkin iOS5 3GS phone eventhough it used to work with 4.3.5. I may have to visit the Apple Store and ask them to fix the phone they broke with their iOS5 upgrade that no longer works. Maybe if enough folks demand it, then they would fess upthat there is an issue and fix it. So far no one is reporting on it even though I have sent links to sites like Apple Insider, they must be too close and don't care to report issues, just report how wonderful Apple is.

I am haveing the same issues with both my ipad2 and iphone4s both are running iOS 5, neither will connect to my car (Mazda 6 2010). Nor will they connect to each other, or my MacBook pro or my blackberry.

The iPad used to work fine before upgrading to iOS5. And my old iPhone 4 (running ios4) and the wifes 3GS also running ios4 worked fine with the car.

I have submitted a bug report to apple.

I don't believe this is an issue with the cars Bluetooth no longer being compatible as Bluetooth is suppose to be backwards compatible as long as apple's Bluetooth is standards compliant. Secondly my iPhone and iPad can't connect to each other or my MacBook pro (running 10.6)

Did the update on my Ford Mondeo Titanium 2011 today and it worked perfect! Now I have working bluetooth communication and also see the trackinfo in the center display! Nice!

Here you find the new Ford software:

According to the instruction it's only the Ford Ka that's now included in this update.

I've got 2009 Ford Fiesta Econetic. Iphone connectivity with iphone 4 and 3gs has been really bad since laster updates of ios4 and now with ios 5 is really bad. pulled the fuse on the bluetooth and it's working a bit mow, but the bluetooth had totally stalled in the car since the ios5 update. not good enough apple. why do you ship this rubbish if it's not working correctly. everytime!

In short: they know about the issue and are investigating it. So for those who can't update their bluetooth module, there might be a fix soon!

Well, interesting times with this problem it seems as though we will have to wait for IOS5.1 to hopefully solve this issue. From what I have read that this update will be available around Xmas or early on next year.

After having a discussion with an Apple consultant, I provided as much information as I could in relation to noticeable changes, improvements and remaining issues after performing the Ford update. The ford Bluetooth module part number's were provided to pass on the apple engineers, which by the way is made by Nokia OEM & novatel? for car manufacturers.

The question to him was asked why doesn't apple provide a roll back feature in Itunes, so that customers can load an known working OS if problems arise? He could not give me a straight answer apart from concluding there is a risk of bricking the phone.

Unfortunately as we have been kept in the dark by apple on this, I have been inconvenienced

to a point for my personal situation my mobile contract is about to run out. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is starting to look very tasty. I have a friend who owns one, it will be interesting to see how that performs and if there are any issues with pairing/bluetooth audio etc.

My opinion is that Apple do not care about getting it right, it's all about new dodgy releases & sales, just look at antenna gate with the Iphone 4

If these Samsung Galaxy tests prove to successful, it will be the last Apple product I EVER buy. It will be good riddens to Itunes as well.

Update performed and now working better than before with my iPhone - although I have the reversing camera in my Fiesta and it seems to have affected that adversely. I get 2 seconds of worrying "blue screen of death" type display before the camera comes on. Hmmm. Anyone else shell out for the camera and getting these issues?

I also have to comment about all the negative posts on here.

Fact 1 - Apple have made UPGRADES to the software on the phone.

Fact 2 - Ford have also made UPGRADES to the bluetooth functionality of their radios to complement Apple's upgrades.

Fact 3 - Both upgrades are readily available to all users at no cost.

Fact 4 - There is a smallish minority group of Ford/iPhone owners that experienced problems that REQUIRED the Ford upgrade to resolve - MOST Ford owners have had no such problems. (I personally know 30+ Ford owners and I am the only person who suffered)

Fact 5 - There is a very very small group of Ford owners that both require the upgrade and physically cannot apply it themselves and are also out of warranty so Ford will not apply it for free.

The VAST majority of cars/radios in the world work fine with iOS5 so it's hardly fair to come on here as a vanishingly small minority customer, making sweeping statements about Apple and saying you'll never buy an iPhone again. Technology moves on - that is a fact. There are ways to roll your iPhone back to iOS 4.3.5. If you complain loudly enough, Apple will do this for you at one of their retail stores. Would you have progress halted so 0.001% of customers worldwide aren't inconvenienced?

If you like iOS5, at worst it's £80-£100 to a Ford dealer to hook your car up to their diagnostic laptop and apply the firmware patch. I would bet serious money if you tried a few different dealers you would find one willing to do it for free. If you can't find one, or wont pay that, and can't wait for iOS5.0.1, then buy a bluetooth visor for £30 and take your calls through that for a month or two then sell it for most of your money back. Upset about streaming music? Spend 10p and burn a 200-track MP3 CDR! Jeez....

If that's not good enought then fine - go spend £££ on a Samsung Galaxy S II - will it be as easy to use and do the same things your iPhone can? No - because Android is ****. I know - I have had one. I now have an iPhone for personal use, and a Blackberry for work. iOS wipes the floor with the other two. You know this already which is why you shelled out so much for your iPhone! What happens when there's a bug with your Android phone? Which of the 3000 unvetted patches in the Android Market that supposedly fix it do you try? Which are just viruses or useless? How can you tell?!

I still have a G3 iBook at home. It's Aiport card can't understand WPA2 so I have to connect it with a wire. Does this mean I wail about Apple abandoning us as if I represent the whole user community? Will I never buy Apple laptops again? Does it mean I demand my router manufacturer stops all security R&D and immediately changes all it's routers back to WEP or Open Access modes? No, I move on, buy a new laptop, a new router to keep pace with technology.

Rant over 🙂
