iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

Well I am sooooooo glad I checked this list. I have a Ford Grand C-Max. iPhone worked great (3GS) until replaced with 4S and iOS5. Constant drop of bluetooth (either during a call or failing to pick the phone in the first place), no battery indication, no signal strength, seperate iPod losing connection (via cable).

Asked Ford customer service, said you need to talk to the dealer. Spoke to the dealer......sorry your software on your radio is up to date and no updates available (this was mid November).

Just picked up the software from the ford mobile connect site and installed it......25 minutes later all is now wonderful. Bluetooth pickup first time....check. signal and battery indicator.....check. iPod working......check (even better now as I dont need the Ford connection cable.....can use the original Apple sync cable).

Thank you to all :-)

I was really happy to find this thread after I recieved my Ford Mondeo, but soon got irritated by the frequent bluetooth connection failure.

So I downloaded the files, formated the usb-memorystick using diskutility to DOS-FAT format. Copied the extracted files to the stick. Turned the stereo on (I get the 1 hour messag, radio starts playing), inserted the usb-stick (the light on the usbstick-lights up, but no change on the stereo) and then I pressed the ignition button... but no update starts! I just show the normal menus.

I have tried at least 20 times, but no update ever starts. Has anybody else had this problem, what did you do to get it to update?

Help greatly appriciated.

In reply to my own post: Thanks to toshirobot(s) prefect description, I realized that it wasn't the folder "ford_audio_update" that should be in the highest-level directory, it was the actuall files. So when I moved the files out of the folder and followed the instructions again the update started. It is currently updating so I am still keeping my fingers crossed that it will all go fine! (You'll hear more from me if it doesn't. 😉) Hope this information helps somebody along the way. Thankyou everybody for posting your experiences.

Ok, I am back... I have updated the system and it all worked fine. Yaay! 🙂

But what I have noticed is that it seems to have a hard time to autoconnect. The display says, "Searching BT..." (or something like that), but it never finds the phone. (Even if it is the only one bonded).

9 times out of 10 I have to pick up the phone and go in to Settings > Generall > Bluetooth > FordAudio for it to connect. After this has been done it works fine, until I turn off (and on) the engine again... then I have to connect it again manually. Anyone else had this problem?

I have disconnected and re paired several times with no improvement. I've just checked and Apple don't seem to have an answer. Apple please help

I have this issue and get round it by switching radio off for 10 seconds this usually sorts the atu connect.

Ok, that seems to work as a getaround, thanks. And is easier than going in to the iPhone menus while driving...

But it doesn't fix the initial problem and it kind of takes away the "auto" in "autoconnect"? Does everybody have to do this?

Hi,

I like to share som info from my experience of this issue.

After I upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4, I had some of the problems mentioned i post´s here, the worst of them was that I nearly couldn´t make a phone call!

The phone was connected through bluetooth to the Sony stereo (Mondeo Platinum -10) but the stereo said "not possible".

When playing music, the phone was selected through AUX button as BT Audio device,

and only worked for a few songs. It suddenly stopped working, no sound.

To solve this problems I had to turn off, not only the stereo, but also the car.

After I upgraded my Sony stereo (BT device/interface!?) with software from Ford it works much better.

When making/receiving phone calls I have no problems at all, that´s really good.

Autoconnect doesn´t work, that´s bad.

I have to turn stereo off for about 5 seconds and when I put it on again it connects with my phone and works until next time I turn the car off.

When I play music on the phone I now can (and must) select it as iPOD through AUX button.

The stereos display title etc. of songs, something that didn´t worked before, thats good.

But, it only works until I skip one or a few songs, then it got suck showing "last" played song, that´s bad.

I can (and must) live with this minor issues.

Some curiosities.

I have a Nolan helmet with Bluetooth (my wife also have one, so we can talk to each other on the bike).

Does it work with iPhone? No!.

With Nolans second edition (and even third) this works.

If all followed bluetooth standards, there would be less problems I guess!?

I have a 2011 Ford Galaxy Mini Van, with a Sony Stereo. The BT connection used to work perfectly with my iPhone 3GS and orginial software. After upgrading to IOS 5, after a few mins it kept losing connection with the phone. I upgraded to the iPhone 4S thinking there may have been a problem with the phone itself, nothing has improved, still have the same problem. Even more of a bummer, now I can not use my TOM TOM app, that used to work so well with the old phone 😟 Please Apple/Ford...sort this problem out, as I now have to sing to work in the mornings!
