iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

Needless to say, i'm having the same problems.... I have a fiesta 09 plate and all was fine before ios5. Now my phone will connect automatically on a morning, will get around 15 minutes tops with errors on my screen saying 'bt device error', then the whole thing just stops. I cant find the bluetooth signal on my iphone or any other friends phones i have tryed nor can i turn off bluetooth via my car. Called my dealership about it today and they informed me they are looking for a fix for it but it could be a while, they said to call in and they will disconect the battery? this is supposed to buy me a little time untill there is a perminent fix. This is cruital for me for work. I deal with people with learning difficulties who become very anxious when they cant get intouch with their staff.

I think it STINKS that apple have not made any comment on this thread or acknowledged the problem!

Hi all,

I have a 2010 Mondeo XR-5 with Sony system (Not sure of the model but no SatNav, no touchscreen).

I have just received a new iPhone 4S with iOS5 already installed (upgrade from early iPhone 3 which worked great) and am having the same issue...music stops playing after 10-15 minutes, no connection, "read error", turn vehicle off to get it to re-connected. Also, music volume seems to change up/down slightly during playback.

The Siri voice control on the phone seems to use the handsfree phone connection and works OK but is confusing as it seems to be 'Dialing Unknown' number and I turned it off the first few times thinking it was trying to return the most recent call from a 'blocked' number.

I contacted local my Ford dealer and booked in for Monday to have system firmware updated as per 'Kylienic'. I spoke to the Service Manager and he didn't seem to think there was an upgrade available but would plug into the IDS machine and see what they can do.

He said it wouldn't be covered under warranty. We'll see.

Kylienic: Any advice how you managed to get them to work out that an upgrade was available and why it was covered under warranty?

Thanks

Wayne

Same problem with Ford Mondeo Sony Bluetooth connection.

After upgrading to iOS 5 I would make 1 - 3 calls while Im driving and then system would just hang, it would say on radio display that call is still active and the whole thing is locked up then. Only way out is to switch car and phone off and connect again. I saw interesting that also the name of the caller did not appear on the radio display anymore.

So I tried to be clever and deleted all previous paired devices and also deleted Bluetooth connection on Iphone, and started all over. Interesting thing is after Ive done that the caller info is back on the display, but it still freezes up the system after a while. Had a chat with my boss today which has been a GM at a few different car dealerships and he says its been a pain in the *** story, every time theres new update, customers come in and complain. He says he found Audi cars to be very tricky because of their build in bluetooth systems complexity.

Big question is now who is gonna have to supply fix?? Car manufacturer or Apple?

I am on the road a lot and really rely on my bluetooth car system. I had to fall back to using my f*&^% headset again which I hate cuz the wires always get stuck.

Can we downgrade back to OS 4.x ??? If thats what Ill have to do I will do it, but then I will ask for refund on my iCload purchase because I wouldnt need it anymore since you cant have it on OS 4 right?

Would be nice for someone from Apple to make a statement so that if they arent gonna release a "fix" then we all will have to put pressure on car makers to bring out a fix... From what I have red it seems its across the board most car makes have the same problem.......

I also have a Renault Mégane (2011)... Called the local dealer on this issue and he will look into it if there's a way to update the car sound system. However, he said he already got a few phone calls and thinks that it is a problem with the iPhone software since before it worked well.

Anyway, I don't really care for Bluetooth 4.0 which is apparently the version iOS 5 implements if this means, that most existing Bluetooth-hardware stops working properly. In the end, we don't need super high-speed bluetoothconnections in the car since the iPhone doesn't support file-transfers to other Bluethooth-phones anyway! So why doesn't Apple just stick with what was working well instead of driving us all crazy...!?

I also thought that new Bluetooth-versions are supposed to be backwards compatible or have a fall back mode. Obviously, in iOS'es 5 implementation this is not the case.

Please, please, Apple, help us out and give us back the old Bluethooth stack so that we can return to normality! iPhone 4S and iOS 5 are great, but not if something that crucial like using the phone with bluetooth in the car everyday does not work!

OK ... I fixed my issue. My 2010 Mustang needed to be manually paired each time I started the car (usually requiring multiple attempts). I went into Sync and deleted every Bluetooth device then re-paired it with my phone. Everything now works perfectly. Apparantly, having two devices with the same name (my old 3GS and my new 4S were both called Bill's iPhone) confused the system. Try stripping out all your devices and start fresh.

I have the exact same problem with my Ford Focus.

Everything worked perfectly until ios5. Since then playback randomly stops and I get a message 'communiucation error'. Also can't seem to skip tracks anymore using the steering wheel controls.

This can be resolved by switching blue tooth on the iphone off then back on again and reparing with thre car but its a pain in the arse having to do it every 10 minutes!!!

Please sort it out Apple!!!

It would appear to me from my experience that apple know about the problem and are distancing themselves, basically saying its not their problem it's ours and fords/ lots of other car manufacturers. I just wish someone from apple could comment on their own forum to let people know their official stance on this matter. As just staying silent isn't making the problem go away maybe if the 3,100 people who have looked at this forum who I assume a large number also have this problem maybe email Tim what's is name he might like to comment. But I doubt it! The 4s and ios5 is supposed to be the best of the best so its a bit embarrassing that after so many people have spent such alot of money on them that we now have to use the earphones in the car.. Maybe those horrid htc things are better after all, if they actually work how they are supposed to!
