iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

It's an absolute disgrace!!! Was trying to get it working today and ended up nearly crashing the car with frustration.

Phoned the dealer yesterday, boy knew nothing about it but made the point that if it was working before ios5 then it must be a problem with apples software. I'm sure Apple will be blaming Ford.

Get it ******* sorted Apple!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Similar issue with 2008 Ford Focus with factory delivered Blaupunkt Travelpilot FX.

Before the iOS 5 update, the phone signal strength of my iPhone 4 was clearly displayed on the sat nav screen. After the update it's gone, although the Bluetooth settings of the Travelpilot suggest the iPhone is found and connected.

Receiving calls still works. Instead of the native Travelpilot incomming call sound, the iPhones ringtone is now relayed through the in-car audio :-)

I have the Ford voice command option in the car and giving voice commands to the Bluetooth connected iPhone also do not work anymore (worked perfect in iOS 4.x)

So, while I cannot say Bluetooth connection to the car system is completely broken, it is certainly plagued by problems that should be fixed by Apple.

Same here: I am totally smitten by the apple product set but the lack of willingness to even have a conversation about what is obviously an Apple issue has tarnished my view. I run a 4 and was about to update the os on my wife's 3GS until I experienced the Bluetooth issues. Both my car and her Ford have premium head units from a not-exclusive marque. Come, on Apple - this really did change everything - it used to work just fine before!

I can't believe I'm writing this, but I am forced to ditch my 4 and blow the dust of my Blackberry which does everything that my I phone won't do (Bluetooth wise) because I need a safe reliable car kit (ideally with music streaming too). If there isn't a fix soon, I may have to make it a permanent swap!

Apple - please give us some hope here. Speak up!

if this helps to anyone - i have a similar issue with ios5 with my Mondeo 2010 (Sony car audio), my iPhone 4 connects with BT, but can just drop out in the middle of the song in 10 minutes or in 2 hours saying "link lost". then i just turn the car audio off, and then on in 1-2 minutes, it starts working again (but can drop out again and again).

the second issue is with music control on the wheel -when chaning tracks my Sony writes "read error", but changes the track in 2-5 seconds. But again - i can get "link lost" and no sound at all.

in both cases music is playing on the iPhone, but no sound from the speakers

i also hope Apple does something about it - it looks like they are trying to make the battery life long with poor BT signal. It's not good to turn music on and off (staring at the panel instead of the road) when driving 110 km/h 🙂

I have a Mondeo 2010 and BT drops after 20 min about after upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS5. Now, I dont mind iCloud and all the other stuff if I can't run smoothly my BT. It is possible to downgrade easly iOS5 to 4.3.3? I am new to Apple world and before this upgrade I trusted much Apple but now I will pay much more attention before running another upgrade.

Not happy 😟. Definitely.

Looks like some folks can get it to connect for two hours and then have to reset it to get it working again. For me, I cannot get my 3GS to connect to ANYTHING via Bluetooth with iOS5. What the heck was Apple thinking. All I get is Bluetooth searching continually, it never times out, just runs and runs wearing down the battery. I am sure this was identified but never fixxed. Common Mr. Cook, get it fixxed please. No upgrades or new Apple products for me if this is the level of QA and testing they have, they are just like Microsoft and pushing out products that don't work or break existing systems.

Its a disaster. If it isn't sorted I'm going to have to switch to android. I simply need the phone in the car and i paid to much for the car to put up with this.

I'm an apple fan, I love my iPhone and iPad so I don't want to switch but this needs sorted pronto! Even if Apple could give some indication that a fix is on the way it would be nice!

i updated my iphone 4 to ios5 a few days ago and i'm not impressed with that fact the bluetooth connection to my ford no longer works effectively, there is a delayed reaction to everything it is meant to do, there was no problem before this update. Having read some of the messages i considered going to ford BUT why should i, when it is APPLE that has updated the softwear!!!!!!! FIX IT APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never posted before but I thought I would support all of the other poor souls caught up in this farce. I have a UK 2009 Fiesta Titanium with the factory fitted bluetooth, USB and aux. All has been well for some time with my iphone 3GS running 4.3; call handling and dialled lists have been reliable, and I occasionally stream music over BT as well (although I keep an old ipod through the USB/aux which is my main music source).

As soon as I swapped to iOS5:

  • Streaming keeps generating an error message ("device read error" or something similar) but does sometimes stream, and will respond to next/previous track buttons
  • Calls ring the iphone but the car won't pick the call up, so bang goes the hands free. I got it to accept a call once but then it wouldn't let the call go 😠
  • I tried to debond phones and turn BT off but it refused to do that and just froze the bluetooth.😢 I ended up following some forum advice and pulling fuses 20 and 21 (internal fusebox behind glovebox) to get it unlocked, which is quicker and less messy than uncoupling the battery.

I had the car in the main dealer garage today and asked them to check the car software was up to date. They weren't aware of the issue but checked the software and advised me that it was the latest Ford software.

I had a similar related issue earlier this year while upgrading somewhere between 4.2 and 4.3, when my wife's Volvo refused to acknowledge the iphone any longer. This problem vanished after an Apple upgrade appeared, which I seem to remember took around 1-2 months. Volvo never touched the car.

Apple - lovely product but PLEASE WILL YOU ADMIT THE PROBLEM AND TELL US WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Happy motoring folks 😎

I am too frustrated by this problem. 😟 I have a Fiesta Zetec 60 plate and until this morning, after updating the software last night, my BT ran like a dream. I have had similar issues with music cutting out through a song, the steering wheel controls bring up an error message and then if they do work takes a few seconds to talk to my iPhone 4.

If the bods at Apple can sort out problems with alarms so people can get out of bed in time for work, surely they could look at what is in essence a safety issue for many UK drivers. I am sure that they would not want drivers flouting the law due to an upgrade issue - could be interesting if they received hundreds of penalty notices on their desks for people who have been caught by the police!!! But seriously this is a SAFETY issue and needs to be looked at, especially with emphasis on using a handsfree device in you vehicle.

Also I am slightly unamused by their attitude to the UK/Ford driver. Ford currently hold a 14% share in new car sales in 2011 to date and with the average iPhone user spending over £10k for a model with BT, telling us that is Fords fault doesn't wash I'm afraid. The decision for me is easy.... my £14k car or my £300 iPhone. I think I hear Android calling on my BT in my car.......................!!!!!

Please Apple update us and sort this out for us. Thank you.

Just sent this feedback to Apple:

Dear Apple-Team:

Unfortunately, I'm very frustrated with my brand new iPhone 4S white, 64 GB which I got a week ago. Since I upgraded my old iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and since I am using the new iPhone 4S with iOS 5 I cannot get my Bluetooth-connection to work - neither in my new Renault Mégane Grandtour from 2011 nor can I connect to the iPhone with my MacBook with Mac OS X Lion to do tethering over bluetooth.

In the car, there is a serious lag until the music starts playing, and everytime the navigation system interrupts the music for direction, there is a lag until the music starts playing again. I also cannot use anymore the in-car bluetooth-remote to go back to the previous song.

When I try to connect with my MacBook, I can pair it, but when I try to connect to it to do tethering, it tells me that networking is not available with the device.

Since everything was working just brilliantly with iOS 4.xx I have to suppose that the new iOS 5 broke the bluetooth-protokoll and makes it incompatible with all my existing equipment. This is really frustrating - and inacceptable for a phone that cost me 849 Euros!

Please be so kind to fix this problem soon.

Thanks so much for the great equipment, that - unfortunately - is making me go through a heavy disappointment at the moment.

Sincerely
