iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

Cheers Frank I'll get onto that. There certainly needs to be concentrated effort by us all to try and get apple to sort this.

Driving to work was a pain today. The bluetooth connection failed twice and the only way to fix it was to switch bluetooth off and on again on the phone, pretty dangerous at 70mph on the motorway.

One reason I bough my focus was for the Bluetooth and being able to listen to music and use the phone safely in the car.

If this doesn't get sorted then I'll be forced to choose between the iPhone or the car. The phone costs £40 a month and the car cost me £14 grand so I know which will be getting replaced!!! If Apple would at least communicate with us and let us know if a fix was on the way it would be nice. Shocking customer service!!

SORT IT APPLE!!!

I have just uploaded the iOS5 to my iphone 3gs and since doing so have lost bluetooth all together! I can put it on but it does not work and as soon as I exit out of the screen it goes completely?

I am also experiencing problems with the wifi continually dropping out...I really regret updating the software as I lost all my data (fortunately managed to recover contacts).

Feel so frustrated and disappointed as I use my phone for business whilst driving and access my works emails through wifi when abroad...big let down!

Guys,

let's follow the suggestion that one of you gave us!!!

Apart from complaining about Bluetooth issue on this forum, please also goto

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

and give Apple feedback about our problems!!! The more feedback on this issue Apple engineers will receive from all of us, the more likely they will decide to find out a solution to the problem!!!

Let's cross finger...

Cheers,

R.

I agree Rick, we need to bombard Apple until this issue is resolved as its proving a nightmare. I have also emailed Ford and will be following it up with a phone call this weekend. From what I can gather the issue is not affecting all manufacturers, just a select few.

What I would say however is that I was not filled with confidence after sending my e-mail to Apple as it stated that they are unable to reply to individual emails and my comments would be taken under consideration. That seemed awful wooly to me and and I suspect it was code for "we won't reply to this cause nobody will ever read it"

I have had to really resist having a sniff around to see what other phones I could get that actually work with my car. I'll give Apple to after Christmas to get this mess sorted. I think that's more than generous.

Only had the car 7 weeks so this is so annoying. I really regret jumping head first into ios5 and not waiting to see if there were any issues like this first.

This might be true, I did have the same unpleasant sensation when I read the same message from Apple site after my feedback submission. But what we might lose? At least we can give it a try...

Btw, today I was in an Apple store in Milan to replace my AC adapter and guess what? Apple guys had no idea about this issue and when I explained them the problem they told me "Apple will surely release an update soon". Needless to say that they were polite but clueless about what was going on...

The fact that the issue is impacting only Ford and Renault as far as I read is worrying me. If this is the case, it is quite likely that Apple will blame Ford and Renault for this saying that they have to fix the problem, despite the fact that it is surely easier to upgrade iOS rather than have a car manufacturer to change the SW onboard on their cars...

I do hope that Apple will fix the issue... I am so frustrated and angry at the moment!!!!!

Well I visited my store n kicked off. The very nice manager give me a new phone with iOS 4 on but I lost all my data. Thanks to the store but when are u going to fix this problem. You are reading these posts as some of mine have been deleted. What was funny was one of the staff said I was only one to moan about this problem. So in front of a very busy shop googled the problem. I was soon asked to get off the computer lol.

I still believe that this is Apples problem to deal with. Everything was fine before ios5.

However IF (and its a big if) this is something that needs to be sorted by Ford in terms of a software update for the stereo then that is perhaps more scary. From what I can gather from that link I posted earlier some Ford owners think there might be an update out there for their software but most dealerships seem to know nothing about it and furthermore others are putting their car in, being told that the latest software has been installed and it hasn't solved the problem I can only imagine the blank faces that would greet me if I tried to explain this to the guys at my local Ford dealership!! They will simply make the point that it worked before ios5.

I feel your pain Rick...So frustrated!!!!

Well, I'll just add that the Bluetooth problem is not just restricted to cars.

Since upgrading to iOS 5 I can no longer pair with my PC laptop (Lenovo T410), which worked fine before the upgrade. (I use the iPhone Personal Hotspot feature and BlueTooth is my prefered method of connecting to the PC. Now I have to tether to use the Personal Hotspot (WiFi isn't secure enough)).

Also, my Bluetooth headset, Plantronics, pairs fine but then disconnects unexpectedly, so when I go to answer a call and the headset isn't paired any more.

Hi all,

Thought I'd add my experiences as I have access to a few cars for work as well as my own.

Since I upgraded to iOS5, my 2010 Ford Fiesta Titanium (with the Sony head unit) has exhibited the symptoms described here - dropped connection, less information, etc. What's really annoying is that the Fiesta still insists it's connected to the phone and I have to actually try to initiate a call for it to realise the connection has been lost so I can re-pair it.

I have tried removing all the pairing from my iPhone and re-adding it, but the behaviour is unchanged.

I also regularly use a 2006 Toyota Prius with the factory upgraded JBL system and a 2010 Ford Mondeo with the standard Ford head unit. Both of these are completely fine (touch wood) and behave exactly as they did with the iPhone when it was on iOS4.3.5.

I can see there are problems reported with Ford (seems to be just the Sony head units?), Renault, BMW & Audi - it would be interesting to know who manufactured the head units in the other manufacturers' cars. All Sony maybe?

I've fed back the issue to Apple. I will post any reply I receive if it's useful.

(My iPhone is the 32GB iPhone4)
