iOS 5 Bluetooth ford problem

I have a 2011 (UK 11 reg) Ford Mondeo with built in Sony radio with sat nav, Bluetooth and CD. It has been linking fine to my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth both for phone calls and audio as needed running iOS 4. However since upgrading to iOS 5 it won't keeps saying it can't establish data connection, audio breaks up then the phone disconnects intermittently, and the radio no longer displays my phone signal strength which I relied up to know I had a signal.

This is a major pain as I need it to be reliable as it was until recently for work support phone calls. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Please don't say take it to my Ford dealer, 1) they will likely have no clue 2) why the **** should I when it's Apple's upgrade which has caused the problem - it was fine before I installed iOS 5.

Same story here, I have a 2009 Mondeo, bluetooth audio and handsfree telephone used to work perfectly before this new iOS upgrade. Now I get read errors, music stops after a period, Handsfree won't work. Unbelievable!! what was apple thinking

How is it a large company like Apple can release an OS which completely breaks the bluetooth? I wish there was a simple way of downgrading back to an older os, until Apple fixes these issues.

Based on this performance by Apple, as my phone contract is expiring in the near future I will be seriously considering an android phone. But before purchase I am going test all functionality with a borrowed current model handset with my vehicle.

Come on Apple is ridiculous... lift you game and FIX it. This experience I will share with collegues and friends.

I rang the Cardiff Apple store just now. The guy was as helpful as he could be really. He said that Apple are definitely aware of the problem and they are working on a fix.........and if he passed me on to Apple Care they would just tell me the same.

I obviously pointed out that this is fundamental, I love my iPhone 4, but if it doesn't work in my 2011 Ford Focus then I'll be getting an Android phone pretty quick!

Again, he appreciated this and assured me again that Apple are working on a fix.

Fingers crossed..............

WARNING - you better read this!

Hi guys ,

I have had this issue now for about a week and today the cookie crumbled!

When I got back to my car this morning I realised the radio is now permanently frozen / stuck in this bluetooth calling mode. I have a message on my screen "Unknown number " and the clock is still ticking. The radio was also quite warm, indicating that its been on all the time. No matter what I try I cant switch it off now. Car off, lock doors, nothing. Pushing radio offf etc buttons nothing works - it just says "disconnecting for a few seconds and then it stay stuck....

So this is not good because Im sure it can drain the battery and leave me stranded. NOT COOL

I quickly went passed my Ford dealership. Same story, guy smiles and says they know about the problem but according to him its not Fords problem but Apples. He said he would have to get a guy to come disconnect the fuse, I wouldve had to wait a while and I couldnt because I had to go pick up my wife... (Had to choose, unhappy wife or possible flat battery lolol)

So my suggestion is that you guys that are struggling with the same issue perhaps turn off your bluetooth on phone until issue is fixed because your radio could freeze like this as well....

NOT A HAPPY APPLE FAN AT THE MOMENT!!!

To tell the truth, I've had a few issues with my 2010 Focus audio system - "forgetting" that it had Bluetooth at all, or being completely frozen - that could only be solved by disconnecting the battery (popping the fuse didn't come to my mind at that time, I'll remember it next time!). And that was without any help from the iPhone 🙂.

Bottom line: The software in these Ford devices might possibly not be perfect either.

But of course with such massive problems having all one common factor - iOS 5 - IMHO the ball is more in Apple's court than in Ford's. But that's my personal view.

Cheers,

Frank+++

P.S. Popping the fuse is not that complicated, IIRC the fuse box is behind the glove compartment and quite accessible from the leg room of the passenger's side. Just don't poke around there with your pocket knife 😉.

Been in touch with the Apple shop today and the boy wasn't sure but suggested that the software in the car may need updated since ios5.

I then contacted my local Ford dealership. First guy I spoke to didn't have a clue. He literally didn't know what ios5 was. The second guy spoke to was more clued up. He has heard there was an issue but assured me that there was no Ford software update and this problem was a direct result of Apples update therefore I had to wait until Apple issued a fix.

Fan-f*ckin-tastic customer service from both. Its only been a week and I'm sick of this!! 😠

I'm paying a lot of money for my phone contract and paid a lot of money for my new car and to not be able to use one of the key features of the car because of an Apple software update is an absolute joke!!!

What is even more frustrating is the lack of information. You would think it would be in Apples best interests to keep their customers informed.

As someone else stated, I have not paid all this money for my new car to put up with the blue tooth not working. I'll be forced to get an android phone if nothing is done which is not something that I would like to do!!!!

Ok... this is my experience. I drive a (UK) 60 plate Titanium Ford CMax therefore also have the Sony Stereo. Upgraded to IOS5 have had all the issues stated. Took it to my local Ford dealer as I am on half term this week and they disconnected the battery, turned everything off on the phone, deleted Ford from the paired list and took it off the stereo too, then re-paired it all again. It sort of works... in a fashion! I'm guessing its going to be intermittent.

THEN... today I was having a relaxing soak in the bath (sorry not a pretty sight... or thought) nicely listening to the music on my phone on speaker and after about 20 minutes with 70% battery left it stopped for no reason at all! Exactly what it does in the car!

Apple this ***** big time. I have an 80 mile round trip commute to work, my phone is vital not just for the music but also for my colleagues to contact me with urgent messages. The other day a colleague rang me because she knew I would be in the car and I have bluetooth hands free, the message was urgent and the call didn't connect.

I've only had the car 3 months and the bluetooth was one of the things that was on my list of must have's when I was choosing the car.

Apparently... the bluetooth software in all Fords is Nokia. I'm tempted to buy a Nokia phone just for the car!

On the plus side, because I am having to listen to the radio there are some great digital radio stations I never knew about and on Sunday whilst taking the dog to meet my family 130 miles away I discovered that Terry Wogan and Paul O'Grady are great for keeping her calm in the car! 😉

Scuba Salsa, this is an interesting discovery. What kind of stereo/speaker were you listening to while in the bath? I assume some kind of Bluetooth setup, too? What was the make/model? Maybe there is some kind of common factor between the Ford (Sony/Nokia) system and your stereo...

This might even be useful knowledge to Apple. Make sure to tell them at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html !

BTW, why does the iPhone feedback page ask me what my OS is and then letting me choose between OS X and Windows versions... guys, I'm running iOS! 🙂

I have a 2010 Ford Mondeo with the Sony Sound System and I'm running IOS 5 on my iPhone 4. I have had all of the troubles mentioned here. Yesterday it froze up and said that I was still on the phone to my husband 40 minutes after I had ended the call on my phone. I couldn't get the car bluetooth to disconnect from the call. So I ended up taking another call on my phone using the phone speaker .... and then 30 mins later, seemingly for no reason it switched over and the call was coming through the bluetooth. It is majorly frustrating. I am having a lot of trouble streaming music as well. It will just drop out, for no reason and without warning and the navigation buttons on the steering wheel are not working.

I would really appreciate it if Apple and/or Ford would at least come out with an official communication acknowledging the problem and let us know they are working on a fix. This is a major issue for me .... I love all of my Apple stuff and I adore my car .... but not having the bluetooth working, with no hope of a fix, will cause me to re-think my brand loyalty to both Apple and Ford. Come on Apple, do the right thing and at least acknowledge the problem and let us know you are working on fixing the problem.

No answer from Apple.... very poor indeed. Maybe it is about time the media got hold of it. They would have a field day. "New Apple iphone cannot use bluetooth on its own Mac Book and buyer beware if you are thinking of purchasing a smart car because iphone is no longer the smart phone for you!"

I hope Apple is trying to figure this out and is scratching its head before it jumps in on the thread and not just going to say suck it like the antenna problem.
