itunes 10.5 win7 preferences freezing issue

Hello there,

First of all, i have iphone 3gs, ipad1 and ipad2 authorised with my win7 PC (64 bits) and one ipad1 and itouch 1st authorised with an iMac, iphone 4 and itouch 2nd with a xp netbook.

Installing ios5 went very fine with the iphone 4 and xp in the same day when ios5 released.

But with the iphone 3gs, ipad1 and ipad2; i had no luck up to now.

The main problem is, after i have upgraded to itunes 10.5 and when i click the edit>preferences, itunes freezes. After approximately 5 minutes, the preferences window opens. I can navigate all the preferences smoothly except for the devices tab. When i click it, it again freezes for 10 mins, after that i see an empty backup list. I know that my backups are in my HDD (i check the backups at its location).

Also when i tried to make a new backup, an error window says something like it can not communicate. When i try to make the communication tests, it passes.

I' ve searched the net and found those :

I' ve done anything in those articles and with non of them i could succeed.

I' ve uninstalled itunes and components in the order the article describes. Deleted configuration files, checked anything that remains. Opened a new account. Disabled all non ms services and programs. Deleted all my podcasts, changed them to update manually. Anything that is written in those articles for several times and came to a conclusion that i think the problem is with this version of itunes.

The worst thing is not only being able to use woderful ios5, my ipad2 64 gb + 3g' s microphone has a failure. I will change it at the service. But as soon as i can' t make a backup and update to ios5; i cannot.

So, i' am really very sad about this and i please from Apple and all the community to find a solution and/or Apple, please find the bug and release an itunes update with a fix soon.

Apple, i can send you any file that you can request from me to speed up the process.

And community please, don' t write anything without reading the links i have written above!!!

toonz, thx for your reply.

As i told in the first thread :

"I' ve done anything in those articles and with non of them i could succeed.

i opened a new account and saw that it doesn't work also. Ja, i will again try your recommendation to move temporarily my backup files although it is not logical because opening a new account bypasses current user's backups and settings, as you know. I will do that because i'm left completely helpless. Also i don' t use any network account.

As you should realised it, i am of course aware that this is a discussion forum. But Apple workers are watching these forums, they simply don't respond and this is Apple' s policy. And look at my thread in this link that they came with the solution of "icloud" and "purchased" tab in the App Store.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2786078?start=0&tstart=0

Of course you should have realised that, Apple Customer Care (which is a paid service) or local services anywhere is very far away from solving itunes programming bugs (which has proofs that it is a programming bug, if you read very carefully my threads here). And if i am wrong in this idea, they changed my 3GS after 4 months after 3 times my device gone to the service. My phone was shutting down unexpectedly with a draining battery and in the first day of the service, i have told them and it was shiny clear. After the first service, service reported me to charge my phone for 4 hours 🙂. And also they didn' t let mo to speak with technical staff there. Apple tech services is like something intelligence agencies which have too critical knowledge that nobody shouldn't know and speak about, as if they are hiding something. Or some bad things they have caused must not be spoken widely; those spoken things must look like gossips or weak words around. Because of this policy (4 months have passed to accept to change the phone) i couldn't use my phone.I could use it only when charging it continously. After 4 months, they didn't accepted that the phone is buggy; they only sad that we are changing it to please our customer. That 4 months, i couldn' t use my carrier's data and call plans either which i already paid before. And do you know my friend, in Turkey, 18 months 3GS 32 gb with the smallest package (4gb data, 150 calls, 150 sms) was costing 1400 USD. It is not as cheap like in the US.

So, as soon as there isn't a direct communicating, human to human support for Apple products, i have no choice. And i really wonder how US & International customer protecting laws permit Apple following such a policy until today. I really don' t lie about that it is the worst support i have seen (comparing to any big or small company, anywhere in the world)

BTW, i can use itunes now to update the apps, or listening to music on my pc (which i don't prefer to use).

i cannot sync or backup or transfer purchases or can't upgrade to ios5 with any idevice associated with this win7 x64 pc.

Mustafa bey merhaba,

Hahahaha!!!

Apple, you didn't surprise me, i knew it 😉.

It is now the third update for itunes since 10.4.1 (10.5; 10.5.1; 10.5.2) and 66 days has passed that i cannot make a backup for 3 of my idevices and stuck on ios 4.3.5

These statistics proove to me that APPLE IS NOT a tech leader of the market, it can only be temporarily related with the money earned, but i have the proof now. A leader company (long lasting leadership) should also have the customers' pleasure; with such a creeping support, Apple's leadership can change easily, if its competitors make a clever attack with clever products, like Apple did in 2007 and 2010.

You know what, i don't really care and feel the excitement of the new ios5. You pushed this feeling away from me. I only need to downgrade itunes to make my backups and you made it impossible after 10.5.1

I had support experiences with tech companies. Some of them : Microsoft, Western Digital, Cisco, A4Tech and even lots of App providers in the App Store. Their support quality can't be compared, but if i give to them 1000000, Apple is 0 and i am not kidding on this.

So, i bite you again Apple once more, biiiiiites!

Dec 21, 2011 5:35 PM in response to mustafa.orkun

I did something to be sure; again, i uninstalled everything as described here in the order : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

then, i opened regedit with admin privelages. I searched for "iTunes, iPodService, AppleSoftwareUpdate, AppleMobileDevice" and deleted everything sits in the registry.

after that, i moved everything related with Apple to a safe place.

The folders i moved was :

- C:\ProgramData\Apple\

- C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\

- C:\Users\user\Music\iTunes\

- C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Apple\

-C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\

- C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Apple_Inc\

- C:\Users\user\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\

- C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\

Then what i did is to install itunes 10.5.2 (64 bit).

So, anybody who has computing knowledge a bit now has to be sure that I SHOULD HAVE A WORKING SYSTEM, if itunes is so perfect, doesn't have any bugs.

I clicked on the itunes icon, then it started. When i clicked on the Edit>Preferenes it again froze for 5 minutes.

This time, again i uninstalled in the recommended order. Again i deleted the above listed folders and again cleaned the registry and could be able to install itunes 10.4.1, which is good that i can backup and sync again. Ban to the ios5 again.

These things i wrote above should proove to any level programmer (with just regular brains, no extraordinary skills needed!) that

ITUNES 64BIT INSTALLED ON A WIN7 64BIT PC HAS BUG(S)

What is sad and annoying is that Apple does not accept you as a customer that has troubles with their product. They only like you when you only buy their products. The biggest problem is not the passed 78 days after the release of IOS5 and three updates of itunes that didn't interested to solve the bug. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS APPLE DOES NOT RECOGNISE YOU AND DOES NOT ACCEPT THE ISSUES WITH THEIR PRODUCTS. If they had been said to me, " We know the bug. We are trying to solve it. Whenever we find a solution, we will let you know", that was just OK. Then i wouldn't have written my posts this way.

My 3GS is so slow with today's Apps and i was going to buy a 64GB 4S. Now i won't because i can't. If i buy, it will come ios5 preinstalled. And i won't be able to sync anything (i am using the same library since 2008). SO IF APPLE WILL CONTINUE TO IGNORE ME, I WON'T BUY ANY FUTURE PRODUCT, BECAUSE I CAN'T.

Hahaha. My words have been like i am trying to communicate with an alien from outerspace or with an idiot.

Dec 31, 2011 3:46 AM in response to Thomas Manley

I've contacted them via itunes' feedback option two times. I' ve included this thread's link also in my feedback as it covers everything that may help the support staff. I' ve also offered them remote connection as Microsoft helped me twice via teamviewer program. Of course, i didn' t and i won' t ever going to buy an Apple support Lane something because this is Apple' s fault and i won' t pay for their bugs.

I do not live in the US, but in my country (Turkey) companies are forced to give 2 years warranty support. Apple is offering 90 days warranty to the idevices. Of course, itunes is something different from a hardware that is sold, but if i were an Apple Manager, i would think this issue as a honour thing. I would at least let my customers know that i accept the issue, and work hard to solve it.

Jan 22, 2012 2:48 PM in response to mustafa.orkun

Well, i' am really sorry to say that itunes 10.5.3 update doesn't fix anything for me again. This is the 4th update after 10.4.1, and i'm really getting short on hope. 110 days have passed away after the release of ios5 and i could not update my phone and ipad2. I also cannot make a backup or sync.

Really SHAME on you Apple!!!

After i write these, i will send my third feedback through itunes and i will try to reach Tim Cook for help. If my mind (those Apple Employees) this is a shame.

Feb 25, 2012 3:50 PM in response to mustafa.orkun

Hi there,

It is not a windows7 issue, I have exactly the same problem in XP.

I also unistalled all Apple products in the order recommended, deleted files, search and cleaned register etc.

After fresh new instalation of itunes 10.5.3.3 everyhing was the same.

In my view, it could be and old register key with a name not related to apple or apple products which we cannot remove just because we dont know that it exists.

Cheers and good luck.

If you find a solution, please write it here.

Bye

Feb 27, 2012 5:05 PM in response to jjruizperez

Hi,

Today, after several and several hours of working on the issue; i think i solved the problem.

But there is a problem again here; i did several things that most of them maybe stupid and

unnecesary for the case, but i will write what i remember. They may help to the others.

First, i removed all the usb devices including the mouse and then uninstalled all the usb drivers under

device management>universal serial bus..thing (i mean the usb root hub, not say intel host controller things). i disabled the sd card and memory stick controllers and ricoh ieee1394 OHCI thing. i uninstalled storage shadow copies also and restarted windows: the problem was still existing.

After reading on the net, somebody in this forum recommended to check "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\" location for "Mobile Device Support. I had only "Apple Application Support" there. Then i copied the files in it to "Mobile Device Support" as the recommend.

I also searched for the file "libxml2.dll" (which "Apple Application Support" also has this file) in C drive and tried to uninstall every program that has this file including evernote.

After that, i edited my PATH (right click Computer>properties>system>advanced>...variables...) and removed unnecessary entries (especially if you have the program UltraEdit or HypoEdit programs).

I uninstalled everything in the Apple's order. then reinstalled. I realised that there is an another folder in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\" location as "CoreFP".

I extracted the "iTunes64Setup.exe" setup file with winrar into a folder.

I restarted itunes and again saw the same problem.

Then i finally went to the folder: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\" and deleted the four usb driver files. Then i went to the setup's extracted folder and ran the "AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi" file (my pc is 64bit). I chose repair and ran itunes without any problem.

So, after 146 days of torment, i will sync and backup and upgrade again 🙂

This means that itunes setup has a bug; it does not update (or check) the mobile device drivers' condition or version. Because during my lost time of trials, i could downgrade to the 10.4.1 version of itunes and it simply works.

And think that i am an end user. Programmers in Apple being paid for their ignorance.

Hope one of these things will help you also.

Have a nice day!

APPLE-IDIOT-STUPID-*?!?@** You moron

I had below 40 gb on my C drive. All i wanted was to upgrade to ios5 for 146 days!

itunes started to backup my phone before upgrading. During restoring, it gave the 1604 error

and left me with an empty phone. And the backup taken minutes ago had also gone

Stupid Apple! I was using ios for 4 years. All my configurations all my efforts, files, settings in the apps had gone.

Now tell me, how can you convince me that you are the biggest tech company? How can you convince me that your products are the best? How can you restore the damage that you have given to me. I' ve lost 4 years because of you.

You are God's ****. You don't deserve anything good in this life. Happy 100 billions$

I wish all your profits goes to the poor people. Go to ****!
