itunes 10.5 win7 preferences freezing issue

Hello there,

First of all, i have iphone 3gs, ipad1 and ipad2 authorised with my win7 PC (64 bits) and one ipad1 and itouch 1st authorised with an iMac, iphone 4 and itouch 2nd with a xp netbook.

Installing ios5 went very fine with the iphone 4 and xp in the same day when ios5 released.

But with the iphone 3gs, ipad1 and ipad2; i had no luck up to now.

The main problem is, after i have upgraded to itunes 10.5 and when i click the edit>preferences, itunes freezes. After approximately 5 minutes, the preferences window opens. I can navigate all the preferences smoothly except for the devices tab. When i click it, it again freezes for 10 mins, after that i see an empty backup list. I know that my backups are in my HDD (i check the backups at its location).

Also when i tried to make a new backup, an error window says something like it can not communicate. When i try to make the communication tests, it passes.

I' ve searched the net and found those :

I' ve done anything in those articles and with non of them i could succeed.

I' ve uninstalled itunes and components in the order the article describes. Deleted configuration files, checked anything that remains. Opened a new account. Disabled all non ms services and programs. Deleted all my podcasts, changed them to update manually. Anything that is written in those articles for several times and came to a conclusion that i think the problem is with this version of itunes.

The worst thing is not only being able to use woderful ios5, my ipad2 64 gb + 3g' s microphone has a failure. I will change it at the service. But as soon as i can' t make a backup and update to ios5; i cannot.

So, i' am really very sad about this and i please from Apple and all the community to find a solution and/or Apple, please find the bug and release an itunes update with a fix soon.

Apple, i can send you any file that you can request from me to speed up the process.

And community please, don' t write anything without reading the links i have written above!!!

Well, after rebooting my phone itunes could restore my phone. I think the backup files remained in the the temp on my PC. I am sorry for my rude words. I was overreacted. As soon as there is no edit option for this discussion form, my previous two post will remain there.

Anyway, i have to say that folder structure couldn' t get completely restored. I will deal with it for a time. But the good thing is any settings and files inside my apps could be restored.

This problem has had me perplexed for some time. iTunes works perfectly on my profile but not on another profile that has two other Apple devices on it on the same computer. The computer has Windows 7 64-Bit. I tried everything listed in this thread but nothing seemed to work. I didn't try creating a new profile though.

Surprisingly, just today I found the following link suggesting that the problem could be due to plug-ins and suggested to disable them when starting iTunes:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430

I thought I tried this before but thinking back, maybe I only pressed the 'Shift' key while clicking on the iTunes shortcut or maybe I only held down the 'Ctrl' key when doing so. When reading it this time it said to press and hold both the 'Shift' and 'Ctrl' keys down while running the iTunes shortcut. I did so and voila! No delay when going into the 'Edit', 'Preferences' option. I was also able to backup the affected iPod and re-upload playlists and movies to it.

The article goes on to mention that the problem is related to a plug-in and to look in the following folders for suspect plug-ins:

C:\Users\username\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins\

C:\Program Files\iTunes\Plug-ins

I attempted to find the plug-ins and the first folder listed above didn't have any files in it. Plus it is shown incorrectly, there should be no space between 'App Data', it should be:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins

Then looking into the 'Program Files' locations, neither the 64-Bit location nor the x86 location contained a folder names 'Plug-ins'.

So there things are stuck, but functional. The only way to get iTunes to communicate with Apple devices on the affected profile is to run iTunes in Safe Mode. If anyone has any ideas how to get around this or if someone from Apple is willing to go over this with me I will make myself available.
