iOS5 bugs (iPod Touch 4G)

iPod Touch 4G updated to iOS 5. Cover Flow is very slow and laggy, Youtube and Facebook (already updated for iOS 5) are laggy too. But most of all the homescreen sometimes freezes for a few seconds after unlocking the display. Finally the device is in general slower than before (iOS 4.3.5).

Is someone experiencing the same issues?

Please help .

ok...came up with an idea/solution to the slowness. Lets be honest, most of the "functions" that the new iOS5 are kinda pointless for the ipod touch and suck up proccessing power of the CPU and take up RAM. So I played around with what services I wanted/didn't want and found out that if you disable a lof of the location services, push notifications, etc....in the settings for each specific app it speeds up the system quite a bit....I guess that's what happens when you install a newer system on older hardware. Hope this helps

Hello! I'm from Germany and i also have the problems. I'm using an iPod touch 3g with 32gb. The coverflow is very slow and lags. When I hear music while i scroll through coverflow, it crashes the ipod and the locking screen is displayed. I hope that the Apple employees read this thread and make in the coming days or weeks for a solution to this problem via update. Without CoverFlow there is simply no ipod! I want ios 4 back, because everything worked well. I have to give macman161 right, it's as if we were the beta testers.

Best wishes from europe!

iPod touch 4G 32 GB here.

Not only iOS 5 deleted all my music but now is also laggy and slower. And the iTunes sync is not working properly!

Bugs I have:

- Slower unlocking of the screen

- Slower and laggy CoverFlow

-iCloud backup is very slow and fails every time

-When changing song in lock screen mode, instead of seeing the cover of the albums you get the wallpaper for a few instants and then the artwork.

-Overall lower performance in the system

-Random crashes

-Music starts playing randomly by itself when headphones are plugged in

-Changing names of artists and songs on iTunes on your iPod device library do not sync with the iPod. I change names on the library but it just won't sync.

Wish I could go back to 4.3.5, and I hope 5.1 gets relaesed soon! This iOS 5 its really a pain.

I'm turning off every location service and notification and all that stuff but this isn't the way its supposed to be. I hope the new iPod touch that came out with iOS 5 don't have this issues.

I'm using a iPod Touch 3g, updated with iOS 5. Don't really use cover flow so nothing much there. There is this annoying this that happened though, some songs I added after the update are not arranged alphabetically. They're still categorised in the same letter, e.g. song title 'Apple' is found in the 'A' category but it's just thrown inside there without consideration to the second letter of the title which is 'p'. Small thing but extremely irritating when searching for songs with huge lists (starting with the letter i for example)..

Anyone else facing this problem?

Unfortunately I think we all made the mistake of upgrading to IOS 5. I personally think its just over whelming the older hardware. Even the last IOS 4 was starting to drag down my iPod Touch 4G. My daughter has the next generation and even she is complaining about slowness. I have a 1G iPad too and am having even more problems! Such as Apps crashing, Safari freezing and closing and just plain sluggishness.

But the other problem besides this is that many applications are becoming more resource hungry too. I have a couple Weather Apps that have so much going on they just freeze my older hardware. The sad part is that the application developers seem to be focusing on testing their Apps on the newer duel core A5 in the iPhone 4S and ignoring the fact that many still are using a A4 single core. I wished Apple would provide a simple option to revert back to a older IOS version if a user wants to go back.

Ok, so here is what I did as a last resort because John above, seems to be right and Apple has done all of us a huge disservice by not allowing all of us the option of going back to an iOS 4 or 3 version as a quick fix until they really get it fixed. I just went and bit the bullet and went back my iPod Touch 1st Gen 16GB that was lying around that can only go up to iOS version 3.1.3. That seemed to work except for the Contacts. The Sync All Contacts didn't transfer any of them over, so I checked Sync Selected Folders and then simply checked each one of my folders, and that did the trick. It makes me think that this is a multi-factorial problem and that either iTunes and/or Contacts is also involved in this fiasco of problems with the iPod Touch 3rd and 4th Gens with the iOS 5. When is Apple going to respond? They still haven't responded back with my ticket number problem that I issued a week ago. I am afraid that no one, including Apple, has any solutions to the Great Beta iOS5 Ruse, as I am starting to call it. Again, they are in for a rude awakening when trying to sell the iPod 4th Gens running iOS5 during this next holiday season!

That's exactly what happens to me! When my Ipod is on lock mode and I change the music, my music pauses then shows the wallpaper then the song plays and the album artwork shows. Also my apps randomly crash, and i'm getting pretty tired of this. I tried resetting my ipod and nothing happened. I really do hope that Apple does something about this. I think i'm going to go to the Apple store and ask them about this. Also when I lock my ipod, sometimes the screen doesn't want to turn back on. I have to press the lock button like 7 or 8 times, same thing with the home button.

Thanks, now I know i'm not the only one with this problem.

Hiho! I think I've found a little aid to this annoying issue! I tried everything and comparing to how My iPod 4g was before this maneuver I think it got better in much aspects, it's faster and lags less.. What I did was "rebooting" my iPod, somebody posted it yesterday and it worked for me :) IN ORDER TO REBOOT YOUR DEVICE you have to follow thisspleenple steps: 1- Close all your apps and safari; disable your wi-fi

2- Press the Home and Power button (at the same time) until the APPLE logo appears, release, wait a few seconds and.. done!

Hope you find this useful

APPLE YOU GOTTA FIX ALL YOUR BUGS AND ISSUES RELATED TO iOS 5! IT JUST DON'T WORK FOR iPods and iPads!

AND HURRY CAUSE WE ARE LOSING PATIENCE...

You're right, we should've learned our lesson already! I think I always regret updating...

The same happened with Lion...but that's another subject...

Ok I disabled everything so I use only the Music app...(I don't see the point in updating to a software with 200+ new features when you can use them but oh well...) I didn't even changed the wallpapers and its running somewhat better but still slugish.

Other anoying thing is the new PC/Mac free setup for the iPod. Everything I Restore my iPod (beacuse it's so slow and crashing) I have to go through all those annoying steps...I kinda hate this iOS 5 if you can't tell already. I'm finding myself listening to my shuffle or classic more than my iPod touch which is my main iPod...

I think everyone agrees when I say that 4.3.5 was and is the most stable version for the iPod touch. What I'm doing now is waiting for 5.1 to be released and see if they fix any of these problems we have. If the bugs are addressed, well and good. If not, it's a restore and back to 4.3.5 for me. Problem is, WHEN are they releasing 5.1? These little bugs are driving me nuts!

Latest: Artist names in the 'Artist' tab in the music app are also screwing up. They tend to spill over to the next alphabet list and 'album artist' is displayed rather than 'artist'. (Even when 'sort by album artist' is off)

Let's keep this thread alive and keep each other updated on the situation guys. I really wanna see how Apple address these issues!

Thank god! Someone has the same problem! That is the thing that annoys me the most. Album artist is off and it still displays it like that. And the worst is that I can't correct it in iTunes cause it doesn't sync some of the changes I do.

I don't longer get the lock screen that says when plugged in: "Syncing..Slide to cancel" now you can use the iPod while it's syncing but I don't think it's working very well.
