iOS5 bugs (iPod Touch 4G)

iPod Touch 4G updated to iOS 5. Cover Flow is very slow and laggy, Youtube and Facebook (already updated for iOS 5) are laggy too. But most of all the homescreen sometimes freezes for a few seconds after unlocking the display. Finally the device is in general slower than before (iOS 4.3.5).

Is someone experiencing the same issues?

Please help .

Hi, i have the same problem, restore the device two times, and put the music in auto sync, and manually, a few albums, a lots albums, the problem is the same, and in the album list the problem persist but is less problematic.

This is a huge bug, is an IPOD, is for music!!!!

For other way, the "STORE" button is a crap, only think in U$S, "STORE" here, "STORE" there, in all places.

Another thing, the "GESTURES" is thinking for IPAD device, Some functions should be disabled from the interface., for that i have an option what dont have any funcion to me?!

always remember that ipod 4g has only 256mb of ram. close apps soon after not needing them anymore. Not just the home button, but double tap the home button and press the icons until a re closing sign appears on all apps - then close them via this red icon and immediately memory is free again. iOS5 needs more ressources then iOS4. So you must take care to have memory free in the device.

Disable spotlight search, or limit it to apps only. Disable push notifications and set to manually. Limit what goes into the notification center. especially the constantly updating weather and stocks app is hogging power ( also battery ) . There are a lot of tweaks. experiment with them until you have your ideal .

A big matter is that not all apps are iOS5 ready yet . Some might run as zombie-processes in the background or hang the device in other ways. I regulary run itunes update search for apps that I own, and only if a update comes in that says "fixed bugs for iOS5" or similar message I install them on the iPod. At least all the Apple apps are now fully compatible, as well as Photoshop,Sketchbook and the various social messengers like facebook.

iOS5 is Lion in miniature ( really : both are darwin version 11 ) . And Lion had the same issues on Macs until all software was compatible. Over time this will all be fixed, surely. Until then you must look yourself what to install and what to avoid.

If is a memory problem, other applications would be affected, such as games that one would presume that use more memory. But not, only "cover flow" is affected (and maybe the list of albums).

I can use another program similar to "cover flow", "photos flow" and work great.

Just in case, I was trying your solution, but doesn't work.

If i have an old Ipod o Iphone, the future Operating system must be thinking in all products, not only for the most advanced in hardware. (what is not my case, Ipod 4G)

I always close the apps I don't need (since iOS 4) I leave in the memory only the essential ones (weather, clock, reminder, safari, mail) . I use iCloud only for find my iPod (since iOS4) and contacts (I previously synced that with google contacts) . I use since iOS4 push notification only for gmail through exchange.

In other words I do nothing to justify crashes (safari, games, springboard) or lags (youtube, cover flow, facebook, exc.)

So I'm waiting for an iOS 5 update soon!

SAME HERE, laggy on SAFARI, laggy on the newest versions of FACEBOOK, TWITTER, slow playing MUSIC, when playing INFINITY BLADE it seems to be in slow motion, I can't even write this cause of the massive lags I'm experimenting, What can we do? APPLE HEAR OUR PRAY: FIX THOSE BIG BUGS, we don't like this iOS 5, it was better before! Help!

Having basically all the same problems described above as well! With iOS4 I loved using my Ipod Touch 4g! But now, it's honestly a hassle, "ease of use" barely applies if at all. Album art flickers when changing songs from the lock screen, EVERYTHING lags (even when only running the basic apps in the background), the screen is frozen up for a few seconds after unlock before it will register any input, constant app crashes (even those from Apple)... overall, the new iOS5 has not been a help at all. I even rebooted my iPod, thinking (somehow) iOS5 hadn't previously installed correctly. No changes. I'm constantly checking to see if there will be an update soon. So please Apple, as others have said, fix the massive number of bugs! 😟

then I'll love my iPod again. heh <3

I have had the same problems as above as well as others with this new iOS5 when it comes to both my 3G and 4G iPod Touches. Called support 3 days ago and am still awaiting a reply as to how to fix my issues. My guess is that there are no fixes right now because iOS5 is a huge Beta version billed to us as the next coming of Christ when it was never ready for prime time in the first place. Apple better get its act together with some solutions before the Holidays hit full stride, or a lot of iPod Touches will be returned back to the retailers. "iOS5...It simple (DOESN'T) work!"
