itunes could not connect to this iphone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800007F). wifi sync

I get the same error message. I have iTunes 10.5, an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2. This started happening a couple of days after the iOS 5 upgrade. The error message alternates with one that reads,

iTunes could not connect to the iPhone ""because an invalid response was received from the device.

Both the iPhone and iPad were showing up in iTunes via wifi sync (neither was connected with USB at the time) when this started. I clicked on the iPhone link in iTunes and turned off wifi sync hoping it would fix the problem, but nothing changed.

The error messages pop up continuously any time I have iTunes running on my PC, which is a substantial aggravation since I use it as a music player in the background. Any solutions would be appreciated!

Problem went away when I disabled wifi sync on the iPad. The messages all refer to iPhone, but the problem appears to be iPad related. I re-enabled wifi sync on the iPhone and the error message hasn't come back.

Now the question is, how can I make wifi sync work properly on the iPad again?

I have the same problem & what I tried just now is I went to my laptop & asked it to sync (it said it was searching for my iPhone) then, went to my phone opened up -settings-, -Wi-Fi Networks-, & found in the "Choose a network" that my Wi-Fi Network wasn't there, then it was, & my laptop found the iPhone & started the sync, & sucessfully finished it....

Maybe Apple can see if it is a sleep thing going on with the iPhone or its a Wi-Fi Network problem between Apple & normal PC/Laptop Wi-Fi (Because I dont have an Apple-Mac Laptop or PC)

I'm having the same issue.

I'm running Windows 7 SP1, iTunes 10.5.0.142, and iOS 5.0 on an iPhone 4.

I don't have an iPad and it's happening when it's trying to do a WiFi sync. The iPhone is in the device list, I see the error and the message in the 'Version' box on iTunes is Connect this iPhone using a USB cable in order to update or restore it's software.

I can sync using the cable, and occasionally using WiFi. But the error message pops up many times during the day.

Any thoughts

I have an iphone 4 and a ipad 2 both with ios5. Windows 7 and the latest itunes. It is certainly related to the wifi sync feature. Disabling it makes the error go away. I was excited about wifi sync, but this error seems to be preventing it from working for me.

Getting the same error here and does not seems to be related the iPad.

I am getting the same error on the same platform (with my iPhone - since the day I installed iOS5 on it. It also freezes iTunes and it happens numerous times ...

Seems to be related with the WiFi synchronisation. I did not find a way to stop the WiFi synchronisation with iTunes but only to fully stop the automatic synchronisation of the device (-> Options -> Devices -> "Tick" the first options avoiding automatic synchronisation of iPhones/iPad ...)

Very ennoying - I am starting to regret that I installed iOS5 on my iPhone 4 ...

Same issue seems to be on the itunes mac version ... also no solution yet ...

Not sure whether I understood this correctly but Apple support asked first for 35$ to accept this as a support issue ...

Yup. Also getting the same error here. I am using Windows 7-SP1 64-bit and iTunes 10.5. What I find interesting is that the Wifi sync is only supposed to occur automatically when the phone is locked and has a power source, yet I will get this error message popping up on my PC when my phone is not plugged into a power source. It's as if it is trying to perform a sync when the phone is only locked and not plugged in.

I had read one resolution was to make sure that you don't have hyphens in your phone name or computer name, but I corrected that and still have the issue.

I've changed my backup to be to iCloud and not with iTunes, so I will see if that makes a difference.

I get the same problem very often with a 4s/iPad 2 combo on a MacBook Pro --- i'm not too bothered that it happens, wifi syncing seems to work eventually but the error message is very obtrusive, and annoying.

I am also repeatedly getting this issue.

Well, I had changed to the Cloud for backing up and still got the error message. However, last night I did not plug my phone in and surprisingly did not have the error message on my computer this morning.

I've noticed a similar behavior. Although, it seems that the iPhone syncs fine when not connected to power, it doesn't always work. It is clearly mentioned in the iPhone settings that wifi-sync is only available when its connected to power. It should ALWAYS WORK RELIABLY WHEN CONNECTED TO A POWER SOURCE.
