I used your program for a day and still had error messages. I also had an unrelated issues with iTunes last week not seeing my airplay speakers. I found one thread on these forums that referenced the fact iTunes does not play well with ipv6 or ipv4 & ipv6 together. Anyway, I unchecked the protocol on my network adapter and AirPlay returned and as a side effect wifi syncing has improved with just an occasional error. Is this the culprit on my old vista laptop? I'm not sure, but I am just thankful that there is improvement.

I then created a scheduleded task that closes iTunes and then re opens iTunes thus restarting iTunes. I set this to run daily at 5:45am and my devices are all showing last synced around 6 AM. While not a true solution it is working for me. At any rate I no longer need to deal with the error messages each morning when I sit down at my desk to work!

Just wondering, do I need to run the tool "as admin" for it to work properly?

No reason I can think of that it would, though I haven't tested it on a non-administrative account. Is it not working properly?

Well, you'll still see the messages -- but the program should dismiss them within a second or two.

Some troubleshooting and reporting hints:

  • Is it running and responsive? The blue musical note icon needs to be in the tray; when you hover, you should see a "nn dismissed since startup" tip, and if you click on it, you should get a menu with Exit and Check for Updates. If it isn't running, it won't dismiss the messages.
  • What is it that it's not doing? "It doesn't work" doesn't give me quite as much to go on as "it won't start, and when I run it from a cmd window it says blah" or "it appears to be running, but the Annoying Message pops up and does not get dismissed."
  • It's looking very specifically for window title "iTunes", and content "iTunes could not connect to this i", and "because an unknown error occurred (0xE80000". If the message isn't getting dismissed, is the text all there? Is it different because of a version variation, or localization, or...?
  • If you want to report, some other info that could be useful: iTunes version, your public IP (e.g. from whatismyip.com), ideally a screenshot of message that isn't getting dismissed. If you're going to send detailed info, my email address is shown on the root page of idawse.broadfield.us.

Yeah, I thought about the stop/restart, but that bugged me. Whatever works, though; glad it works for you.

[RESOLVED] error 0xE.....

Hi all!

(sorry for my english)

I got an iPad 1 + iPhone 4, latest iTunes and ios 5.1.1 and windows 7 x64.

For the story, i baught a new hard disk ( the old one make some bad noises) and installed everything.

I do a full backup of my iPhone and iPad on the old HD and saved backup on another external HD.

I then migrate to the new HD and connected my iPhone with itunes.

ITunes warned me about another iTunes sync on another machine. As everything were imported from old HD i answered "yes". Nothing changed on my iPhone and everything were fine.

I do the same for my iPad BUT this error appears on my screen "iTunes could not connect to this iPad because an unknown error occurred (0xE...)". I went back to my old HD and tryed to re-sync it and iTunes reconized it.

Went back to the new HD and error went still there. I searched the web for answer but nothing seems to be resolved.

I decided to do a FULL reset of the iPad (because i got backup). And import the backup from "mobilesync" folder to the new HD.

I reconnected the fresh new formated iPad to the new HD with iTunes (that gave me the error 0xE...) and recovered my backup from the other HD.

Now, everything is fine, and no more errors occurs.

Hope it gonna be helpfull.

Regards

Anybody think that iOS6 being previewed today might be the resolution that we've been looking for? I would love to be able to wifi sync my iPhone4 and would love for those other error to that come up sporadically with my iPads to go away.

The issue isn't iOS but iTunes. It seems that when the device is no longer accessible by iTunes; iTunes has a fit and doesn't gracefully trap/ignore the error. Now when iOS 6 is release a new version if iTunes is normally released hopefully then this issue will be resovled. Not holding my breath on that.

Yeah, I should have been more explicit in my reasoning. That is what I was trying to imply as I know that with a new iOS release, there is generally a new iTunes release. We can only hope though, right?

Now, that being said, I do think part of the issue does rely on the iOS side. The auto-wifi sync is only supposed to occur when the device is locked and is plugged into power. However, my devices will definitely start syncing via wifi when they are not plugged in. The iOS system should not even allow that to happen. In those cases, it would be interesting to know what is initiating the sync (the iOS device or iTunes).

I suspect no-one cares, but: 41 of you have used my workaround app and allowed it to report. It has dismissed 1270 errors; one poor user has had 166 errors dismissed. (That same user is the only person to have 8 dismissed within the same hour -- I'm guessing they plug and unplug their device a lot. They also started pretty early, having first run the app on 12 May.)

Adjusting for time, that's not the person who gets the highest error rate; that goes to a user who has used the app for just over 7 days, but has had 39 errors dismissed, for 5.46 errors per day.

I have not seen any reports of whether iTunes 10.6.3 fixes this (my program does not report the iTunes version); I've just installed 10.6.3, so I'll find out.

FYI... I installed the new version of iTunes and, disappointingly, the errors still persist.

I installed your program and it places a little blue not on the tray but will not show options when clicked or dismiss errors in iTunes..

Well, I installed the latest version of iTunes (v10.6.3) and also the iTunesDismissAnnoyingError app. I also turned wifi sync back on for my iPhone4, which is usually what caused all the problems. So far, the app has not dismissed any errors for me. I also am not seeing the listed error for this thread (although if it popped up, I assume the AnnoyingError app would be taking care of it).

One thing I've noticed is that my iPad and the iPhone appear to be behaving correctly in when they try to sync. They do not seem to be syncing while just locked and not plugged in. Previously, if I had left them on my nightstand over night and not plugged in, I would find that they would just start synching. Now, that does not seem to happen.

That being said, I am still getting a few errors sporadically. I get the Sync Session Failed to Start at times along with an iPad or iPhone has been found, but cannot be identified. I'll try to pay a little more attention to those errors and will post back.

I haven't gotten the error since I updated to 10.6.3. Not sure what's up with sailormon, but, here's some data:

IIRC, 10.6.3 was released on the 11th. Since I didn't make iTunesDismissAnnoyingError try to detect the version of iTunes, we can't be certain that the people still experiencing (and reporting) dismissed errors are those who haven't updated -- it seems an interesting correlation. I also note that the number of people using it has diminished precipitously: 55 people used it and allowed it to report; only 12 appear to still be using it (and I'm two of them.)
